Table of contents n A word from the director This autumn’s edition of the newsletter highlights the Sommaire programme of our Moscow conference, the first time that Opera Europa has held an event in Russia. Whether you are a regular visitor or it will be your first experience of the Russian capital, our hope is that you will regard it as an unmissable occasion and will ensure that your company is represented. Our host theatres have gone out of their way to offer you a warm welcome. At our request, they have combined to European Opera Days provide a rich choice of Russian operatic masterworks, which will also demonstrate the strengths of their ensembles and different styles of production. Move outside 2 1 0 2 your usual territory! y a M Why European Opera Days? - CELEBRATION : Celebrate the art of Opera on a European scale - VISIBILITY : Gain attention for lyric art; advocate widely for Opera as a European art form ; and present how alive and kicking Opera is today - ACCESSIBILITY : Open the doors of the Opera Houses to a new public and make Opera accessible to everyone - NETWORKING : strengthen the links between the different opera houses within Europe 3 levels of action to boost your event The EODs are not simply about affirming our love for opera, but form part of a strategy for survival during a time of economic difficulties and transition to new ways of financing our art form. • At a local level, the EODs increase the awareness of each partaking institution and what it stands for – in terms of labour force, craftsmanship, heritage and landmark and especially of artistic ambition – and therefore gain the support of its surrounding community. • At a national level, the Days create a valuable political and social profile through the combined Media coverage.
