Outline of angiosperm phylogeny: orders, families, and representative genera with emphasis on Oregon native plants Priscilla Spears December 2013 The following listing gives an introduction to the phylogenetic classification of the flowering plants that has emerged in recent decades, and which is based on nucleic acid sequences as well as morphological and developmental data. This listing emphasizes temperate families of the Northern Hemisphere and is meant as an overview with examples of Oregon native plants. It includes many exotic genera that are grown in Oregon as ornamentals plus other plants of interest worldwide. The genera that are Oregon natives are printed in a blue font. Genera that are exotics are shown in black, however genera in blue may also contain non-native species. Names separated by a slash are alternatives or else the nomenclature is in flux. When several genera have the same common name, the names are separated by commas. The order of the family names is from the linear listing of families in the APG III report. For further information, see the references on the last page. Your request for formal consultation was dated April 19, 2002, and received by us on April 23, 2002. At issue are impacts that may result from the proposed reauthorization of livestock grazing on the Sentinel, Cameron, Childs, Coyote Flat, and Why allotments located in Maricopa and Pima counties, Arizona. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has determined that the proposed action for the five allotments may adversely affect the endangered Sonoran pronghorn (Antilocapra americana sonoriensis), and the proposed action for the Cameron and Childs allotments may adversely affect the endangered cactus ferruginous pygmy-owl (Glaucidium brasilianum cactorum). In your letter, you also requested our concurrence that the proposed action on the Cameron, Childs, Coyote Flat, and Why allotments may affect, but will not likely adversely affect, the endangered lesser long-nosed bat (Leptonycteris curasoae yerbabuena). We concur with that determination, which is based on sound analysis and guidance criteria for the species mutually agreed upon by our agencies. -

Black Mountain (3,008 feet), standing to left of the road ahead, is an eroded remnant of a basaltic volcano that once covered a much larger area. The horizontal banding is due to differences in hardness between the basalt flows and softer tuffs that have been tilted and faulted. The brown- black color tinged with red is typical oxidation and weathering for such rocks. -

Tucker, Jr.1 Abstract In arid and semiarid regions the relative rates of tectonic activity and the approximate age of the last major tectonic pulse can be ascertained by analyzing the landforms of the mountain fronts and their adjacent piedmonts. Tectonic activity triggers a change in the base level of fluvial systems that causes the development of a characteristic suite of land forms. It is these landform characteristics that are examined in making a tectonic geomor phic analysis of an area. The Luke Air Force Range, an Air Force missile and gunnery training range in south western Arizona, is an area of typical basin-and-range topography of generally linear mountain ranges separated by broad, flat valleys. While overall the ranges are quite linear, the mountain fronts are, for the most part, highly sinuous, pedimented, and lacking a thick accumulation of recent alluvial material on the piedmont. A tectonic geomorphic analysis of the Luke Air Force Range shows that the area has been almost entirely free of tectonic activity for at least the Holocene and Pleistocene epochs and probably for part of the Pliocene. A few mountain-front segments show signs of slight tec tonic activity during the Pleistocene. One mountain- front segment displays landforms indica tive of tectonism continuing into the Holocene.
