Apply artificial respiration if necessary. Notes to Physician: There is no specific antidote if this product is ingested. Give a saline laxative and supportive therapy. Monitor blood for evidence of hemolysis and methemoglobinemia. Hemodialysis may be required to remove sodium chlorate. Barbiturates may be used to control convulsions. Treat symptomatically. Contact with the eyes may require specialized ophthalmologic attention. An aqueous suspension of activated charcoal can be administered to absorb remaining toxicant. Do not induce emesis. Medical Condition Likely to be Aggravated by Exposure: None known 5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES Fire and Explosion Flash Point (Test Method): Not applicable Flammable Limits (% in Air): Not applicable Autoignition Temperature: Not available Flammability: Not flammable Hazardous Combustion Products: Reaction of sodium chlorate with acids releases chlorine and chlorine dioxide which may ignite or explode spontaneously. Extinguishing Media: Use dry chemical, foam, or CO2. Fire Fighting Instructions: Evacuate nonessential personnel from the area to prevent human exposure to fire, smoke, fumes or products of combustion. Prevent use of contaminated buildings, area, and equipment until decontaminated. Protective Equipment for Fire Fighters: Wear full protective clothing and self contained breathing apparatus. 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES In Case of Spill or Leak: Wear chemical goggles or a full-face shield, rubber gloves, rubber boots, long-sleeved shirt, long pants, head covering, and NIOSH-approved full-face chemical cartridge respirator with organic vapor cartridges and pesticide pre-cartridges or a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). For small spills, cover with an absorbent material such as pet litter. Sweep up and place in an approved chemical container. Wash the spill area with water containing a strong detergent, absorb with pet litter or other absorbent material, sweep up and place in a chemical container. Seal the container and handle in an approved manner. Flush the area with water to remove residue. Do not allow the wash water to contaminate water supply. 7. HANDLING AND STORAGE Precautions to be Taken in Handling and Storage: Good housekeeping and controlling of dusts are necessary for safe handling of product. Wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling. Do not contaminate water, food or feed by storage or disposal. Store in well ventilated, secure area out of reach of children and domestic animals. 8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION These precautions are suggested for conditions with a high potential for exposure. If handling procedures are such that there is only a low potential for exposure, less protection may be needed. Emergency conditions may require additional precautions. Eye Contact: To avoid eye contact wear chemical goggles or full-face shield.
