Home Ministry has shortlisted names for IGP, deputy IGP posts – Muhyiddin BERNAMA 22/02/2019 SEMENYIH, Feb 22 (Bernama) -- The Home Ministry has shortlisted several names to fill the posts of the Inspector-General and Deputy Inspector-General of Police, which will become vacant soon. Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that he would be submitting the list to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in a day or two. "I am focusing on just a few names, do not want to have to many...according to protocol and the constitution, the prime minister will seek the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on those selected. I only suggest the names,” he told a media conference here today. The media had reported that the service contracts of IGP Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun and his deputy Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim will end in May. Meanwhile, asked on allegations that Pakatan Harapan (PH) tried to buy votes in the Semenyih by-election, Muhyiddin said house repair works for the Hardcore Poor Housing Programme (PPRT) under the Rural Development Ministry, seen as an attempt at buying votes, was already implemented way before the Semenyih by-election. Muhyiddin, who is also PH deputy president, said he had been informed by Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun that the application for the PPRT had been received and approved long before the announcement on the Semenyih by-election. “For me, it is not a violation of any law, if they (certain parties) want to lodge a police report over the matter, they are free to do so,” he said. Earlier, Muhyiddin and PH candidate for the Semenyih by-election Muhammad Aiman ??Zainali had performed Friday prayers at the Batu 3 Mosque here. The by-election is a four-cornered fight between Muhammad Aiman ??and Zakaria Hanafi (Barisan Nasional), Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul (Parti Sosialis Malaysia) as well as independent Kuan Chee Heng or better known as 'Uncle Potato'. Pada awal Mac 2014, saya dijemput oleh sekumpulan NGO Melayu / Islam yang diketuai oleh Dato' Ibrahim Ali, yang menentang pemansuhan Akta Hasutan 1948 dan kelulusan apa yang dikenali sebagai Bil Harmoni, untuk mengetuai sebuah jawatankuasa bagi menyediakan memorandum untuk dikemukakan kepada Dato’ Seri Najib, Perdana Menteri BN pada masa itu. Saya berbahas sendirian sama ada hendak menerimanya atau tidak, kerana apabila saya dilihat duduk disamping Dato' Ibrahim Ali, Presiden Perkasa itu pun sudah cukup untuk menarik kritikan daripada kumpulan bukan Melayu yang memperjuangkan pemansuhan Akta Hasutan dan menjadikan bil Harmony sebagai undang-undang. Saya memutuskan untuk menerimany atas syarat saya, yang saya nyatakan di mesyuarat pertama pada 14 Mac 2014, iaitu: 1. Tugas saya hanya untuk membantu jawatankuasa itu mengenai aspek undang-undang dan perlembagaan dalam merangka memorandum. Britain and Russia were not the only players but also drew in other players like Turkey, France and Iran (Persia as was). It involved diplomacy, espionage and war over a vast area of the globe, from the Bosphorus in the West to the Hindu Kush in the East. There was a war in the Crimea and two wars in Afghanistan. Now it might start to sound a bit more familiar. For the British, the driving factor back then was the defence of India, the jewel of the Empire. For the Russians it was the expansion of their Empire and influence south into the Caucasus, the Near East and Central and Southern Asia, and the need to secure a warm water port. Jump forward 100+ years and whilst the geographical focus of the game has shifted West to the Middle East and Central Asia, the game continues but with some important changes to the line-up of players. Whilst post-Soviet Russia is still a central antagonist, the USA has taken over the lead role for the Western powers with UK, France, Turkey and Iran still in the game, but with new players like Israel having taken the field.

Dr M clarifies ERCL deal not in exchange for Jho Low Malaysiakini 15 April 2019 Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has clarified that the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project deal was not inked with the condition that China returns fugitive businessperson Low Taek Jho. “This has nothing to do with Low. But of course, we seek the Chinese government (with regard to Low),” he told a press conference in Putrajaya this morning. However, Mahathir pointed out that Putrajaya did take advantage of the deal to press Beijing to import more palm oil. On April 12, it was reported that the project would resume following the signing of a supplementary agreement between Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) and the China Communications Construction Company Ltd (CCCC). Putrajaya managed to bring down the price tag to RM44 billion – RM21.5 billion less than the original cost of RM65.5 billion. Previously, it was reported that Low, who is wanted in connection with the 1MDB scandal, is roaming freely in China. Low has been charged in absentia in Malaysia over the scandal. It was reported, however, that the absence of an extradition treaty between Malaysia and China had complicated matters. In January, Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the police met Chinese authorities to locate Low. Six of them, Malaysians from an Islamic State cell, were arrested in Johor for allegedly planning attacks on non-Muslim places of worship and plotting to kill police personnel, while an Abu Sayyaf member was detained in Sabah, said the police in a statement. The men were arrested in multiple operations between Feb 27 and Mar 15. In the rst operation, police arrested a 37-year-old man believed to be the mastermind of the planned attacks on places of worship in Johor Bahru. He also actively recruited new militants, said Inspector- General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun. "The second suspect is a 49-year-old security guard and adviser to the terror cell," he said, adding that the suspect was in charge of ensuring cell members kept their activities secret. Fuzi told reporters in Kelantan today that any such instruction, if issued, would come from the Parliament's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) or from the federal cabinet. "No, no. We have no need (to investigate further), as the investigation has been completed. "Unless we have further instructions from the PAC or cabinet on this matter," Fuzi said at a press conference after officiating PDRM's Innovation Day at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan in Kota Baru. "To my knowledge, this matter (the 1MDB investigation) has been completed and there is no new development that I need to inform the media and public," he said. In June, former IGP Khalid Abu Bakar said that the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) directed the police to investigate the 1MDB issue further, based on several questions, which were not disclosed. The instruction at the time was based on investigation papers that Khalid said had been submitted, sometime earlier this year. The police formed an investigation team in April 2016 to scrutinise the PAC report on 1MDB, a day after the PAC tabled the report. The AGC and the police have been under increased pressure to wrap up investigations after the US Department of Justice, on June 15, filed the latest in its series of 1MDB- related civil forfeiture suits. Various opposition parties and civil society groups have criticised Malaysian authorities for supposed inaction, despite their counterparts in Singapore, Switzerland, the US and other countries cracking down on those implicated in the 1MDB scandal.

Most of the conflicts involved Islam which is generally known as the official religion of the country. Overall, a total of 60% that represents majority of the Malaysian populations are Malay Muslims, while the remaining consists of other ethnics which include Chinese, Indians, and the indigenous people of Sabah and Sarawak. In regard to this matter, the minorities tend to have the thoughts that they are marginalized by the government policies imposed on them. Mass media especially the newspapers have been regarded as a powerful tool in disseminating information to the population. Apart from that, it is also known to have a strong influence on the mind of individuals in regard to its reporting on a particular issue.
