Practical sports strength and conditioning competencies are growing areas of interest and employment nationally and internationally. The Strength and Conditioning coach (S&C coach) is becoming a central and key figure in preparing and advancing the fitness and performance status of the individual athlete and team both in professional sport and also in amateur and recreational sport. The use of the word ‘strength’ in the professional title indicates the importance of the coach having a thorough competence in delivering a broad range of strength related practices and methodologies to any given sport. ‘Conditioning’ is the process of planning and developing all the requisite components of fitness for the athlete, player or team. The modern S&C coach will have additional skills that utilise advances in technology to impact on the development of the athlete, player and team. The S&C coach will also require core elements of business to be flexible in applying his or her S&C skills. Thus the programme title reflects the evolution of Strength and Conditioning as a key area of development and competence in sport and indeed exercise and recreation today. Further Study and Career Opportunities The BSc in Sports Strength and Conditioning aims to equip students with a qualification that has a competitive standing in the marketplace and the skills that are pivotal to the S&C practitioner. On completion graduates are expected to gain employment in Sports Organisations, Sports National Governing Bodies, sporting clubs, schools and colleges, health and fitness industry, community activity programmes and private enterprise.
