Chardonnay is one of the more easily grown grapes and given that, it finds itself planted in just about every grape growing region. The birthplace of Chardonnay is in Burgundy, France. Here the grape can be full of minerality and crisp with all sorts of intensity or rich and complex with layered nuances. In California the style of wine making tends to favor an oak influence making the wines big and luscious. Move to regions such as Australia and we see no oak, here the wines are light and crisp. 150. SAUVIGNON BLANC Sauvignon Blanc has become an increasingly popular varietal. From its origins in France in Bordeaux and Loire, it’s growth in California, to its explosion of success in New Zealand, this grape has been a staple of the wine world. The wines are lean and grassy in France, more floral and delicate in California and full of racy acidity in New Zealand and Chile. These wines are amazing with almost any cuisine especially seafood. 130. ROBERT MONDAVI, Reserve Fume Blanc, Napa, CA ’07 110 131. GRGICH HILLS, “Fume Blanc”, Napa, CA `09 66 132. Pinot Grigio with it’s “go with everything” ability sees tremendous popularity. Wines such as Viognier with it’s intense apricot and peach flavor and bright acidity work so well with the trends of today’s cuisine. Riesling from Germany and Australia are all so perfect with so many different dishes. This is a selection which will continue to expand and become more import in our world. 140. Shiraz from Australia with all of the pepper and spice is always popular. The Rhone where Syrah, Grenache, and Mouvedre rule has boundless variety from fruity to concentrated and tannic, another big steak wine region. Charaterized by it’s ripe fruit and high potential alchohol, these wines need big food to stand up to their big taste. Nothing is more of a pleaser to the palate than a jammy Red Zinfandel and a thick rib eye. 230. NEYERS “Pato Vineyard”, Contra Costa, CA ’06 72 231. HERITAGE “Dry Creek Vineyard”, Sonoma, CA ’07 43 PINOT NOIR Pinot Noir like chardonnay has it’s origins in Burgundy, France. This is a wine of purity and delicacy that can be nearly breathtaking. The grape is very difficult to grow requiring a specific set of conditions in a more narrow of climate ranges. If the conditions are not just right the grapes never ripen fully and are somewhat less than interesting. Balanced between strawberry and cherry notes to the heavier styles seeming almost plum like in the nose the wines made from Pinot Noir are complex and diverse. We have made our Pinot Noir selection one that we feel best represents the grape and offer a wonderful experience for our guests. 240. DOMAINE SERENE “Evenstad”, Willamette Valley, OR 07 114. 241. B R COHN, Russian River, CA ’06 105 242. SOKOL BLOSSER, Dundee Hills, WA ’07 98 243. CHARLES KRUG, Carneros, CA ’08 75 244. DUTTON GOLDFIELD “Dutton Ranch”, Russian River, CA ’08 73 245. JACUZZI Pinot ,NOIR ,Sonoma 2009 45 MERLOT Just like cabernet sauvignon, Merlot is also one of the world’s most recognizable grape varieties. As another base grape for Bordeaux the varietal became a wine of legendary status. Since the infamous rant of Miles in “Sideways” fewer people are consuming this once most popular of wines. Of course, the wine that he drank at the end of the movie was 100% Merlot. Merlot can be soft and unassuming with warm fruit and pleasant flavors, Merlot is a work horse grape in that it works so well with so many different foods. 65 263. SWANSON, Napa, CA ’04 59 264.

These wines are complex and interesting much like our food and greatly complement our menu. These wines are alive, have character and evolve very quickly over time in the glass. They are meant to be enjoyed with food, with us here at Alter.

  • Blanc De Blancs Nv Brut, Champagne, France
FRANCE CHAMPAGNE | BLANC DE BLANCS NV BRUT, ODILON DE VARINE, Cellar Master CHAMPAGNE, FRANCE ABOUT THE WINERY Champagne Gosset has been family owned and operated since 1584, making it the oldest wine house in Champagne. The winery’s style delivers pure, precise, elegant and textured wines, with remarkable longevity. These high-quality wines reflect their sourcing, primarily Grand and Premier Cru vineyards, and are crafted without malolactic fermentation and with a minimum of inputs beyond what the grapes provide. ABOUT THE WINE The Grand Blanc de Blancs encompasses the finesse of the Côte des Blancs and the structure of the Montagne de Reims. This cuvée launched in 2011 – a bold move from a winery whose history is rooted in the Pinot Noir territory of Aÿ. However, in recent decades, Gosset’s wines are dominated by Chardonnay, reflecting access to the best Chardonnay sites. The family and winery team offers a wine with finesse, elegance and freshness in the style of its other cuvées. KEY SELLING POINTS • Two keys to Gosset style are avoiding malolactic fermentation, which allows the terroir of the cru vineyards to shine, and the extended lees aging, which adds texture and complexity • During assemblage, all the lots are tasted blind – there are no recipes with Champagne Gosset; dosage is also selected during blind trials • Key crus influence this wine: Avize brings vivacity and purity, Chouilly adds richness and texture and Cramant provides minerality and salinity • Grand Blanc de Blancs is technically an Extra Brut style with 6 g/L dosage TECHNICAL DETAILS Appellation: Champagne, France Varietal Composition: 100% Chardonnay Aging: 4 years on lees before disgorgement | Malolactic Fermentation: None Alcohol: 12.0% | Total Acidity: 6.2 g/L | Residual Sugar: 6.0 g/L “… the latest rendition of the NV Grand Blanc de Blancs Brut exhibits scents of citrus oil, green apples, fennel, white flowers and freshly baked bread.

KEY SELLING POINTS • Two keys to Gosset style are avoiding malolactic fermentation, which allows the terroir of the cru vineyards to shine, and the extended lees aging, which adds texture and complexity • During assemblage, all the lots are tasted blind – there are no recipes with Champagne Gosset; dosage is also selected during blind trials • Key crus influence this wine: Avize brings vivacity and purity, Chouilly adds richness and texture and Cramant provides minerality and salinity • Grand Blanc de Blancs is technically an Extra Brut style with 6 g/L dosage TECHNICAL DETAILS Appellation: Champagne, France Varietal Composition: 100% Chardonnay Aging: 4 years on lees before disgorgement | Malolactic Fermentation: None Alcohol: 12.0% | Total Acidity: 6.2 g/L | Residual Sugar: 6.0 g/L “Bright and graceful, this leads on the nose with racy chalk and smoke notes, a minerally underpinning for delicate flavors of Gala apple, blanched almond, fleur de sel and pickling ginger.
