Ėjimo metraštį papildėme dviejais Neringos Aidietytės, keturiais Brigitos Virbalytės rekordais ir Tado Šuškevičiaus aukščiausiais pasiekimais. Didesnių pasiekimų tikėtasi Europos čempionate, tačiau pasirinktas eksperimentinis pasirengimo kelias neleido pasiekti numatytų tikslų. Naujajame sezone nebelieka laiko eksperimentui – laukia tiesus kelias į Rio de Janeiro, trumpam užsukant į jau pažįstamą Pekiną, kur olimpinėje trasoje medalius išsidalins pasaulio čempionato dalyviai. Naujajame sezone linkiu: sportininkams olimpiečio statuso, treneriams jaunatviškos energijos ir naujų ėjimo talentų paieškos, teisėjams, renginių organizatoriams, rėmėjams, visam mūsų aktyvui neblėstančios meilės sportiniam ėjimui. Pavilonis, LSĖA prezidentas Nuotraukoje LSĖA prezidentas Kastytis Pavilonis. 4 LIETUVOS ĖJIKAS 2014 Nr. 26 LIETUVOS SPORTINIO ĖJIMO ASOCIACIJA medalius (suaugusiųjų ir jaunimo) nesunkiai laimėjo Živilė Vaiciukevičiūtė (13.36,57) dar ir pagerinusi šalies jaunių (17 m.) uždarų patalpų rekordą, sidabro medalis atiteko Ingai Mastia- nicai (14.00,29), o bronzos - Monikai Vaiciuke- vičiūtei (14.09,75), kuri buvo apdovanota ir jau- nimo grupės sidabro medaliu. Jaunimo grupės bronzos medalį laimėjo kaunietė A.Kuzmickaitė (15.56,65). LLAF taurės varžybų programoje (Vilnius, 02.01) pirmą kartą buvo ir sportinis ėjimas. Čia Lietuvos susirinko visas šalies ėjikų elitas ir pademons- travo aukštus rezultatus. Vyrų 5000 m nuotolyje ejiku nugalėjo Marius Žiūkas (19.08,27), antruoju fi- nišavo Tadas Šuškevičius(19.37,90), trečiuoju- 2014 m. Ričardas Rekstas(19.52,72), dar 3 ėjikai nuotolį įveikė greičiau negu per 21 min. varzybu Moterys rungtyniavo 3000 m nuotolyje. Bri- gita Virbalytė kėsinosi į šalies rekordą, tačiau šį rezultatu kartą mažai pritrūko, bet pasiekė aukštą rezulta- tą (12.20,32), antrąja finišavusi Neringa Aidiety- apzvalga tė nuotolį įveikė per 13 min.04,50 sek. Šalies pirmenybių medalius jauniai išsidalijo Juozas Genevičius Šiauliuose vasario 14 d. 5000 m nuotolyje nuga- lėjo A.Semionov ( 25.50,86, Šv.). o A.Kuzmickaitė buvo pirmoji tarp mergaičių 3000 m nuotolyje VARžybOS UžDAROSE PATALPOSE. (16.21,56, K.) Tim Seaman and Joanne Dow were easy winners in the two 20 Km races held on a 2 Km lap course . The women's race was dominated by veteran walkers with vast international experience . Joanne Dow , a couple of weeks past her 40th birlhday and a member of three Woorld Cup and two World Championship teams in the past, took command early in the race, dropping Teresa Vaill by 5 km and holding a 42 second lead as she passed JO km in 46:21. Content with the win. she didn't push for time and finished in I :34:44 , more than two minutes ahead of Vaill. Vaill, 41 , has been on six World Cup teams, dating back to 1985. She struggled over the second halfofthe race, but was still well clear of Michelle Rohl.

Chris had a great meet there - here are his 4 days: Monday 20km 13th 1:25:27 Tuesday 15km 16th 1:03:30 Wednesday 15.5km 11th 1:05:36 Thursday 15km 6th 1:03:28 He gave it a real go on days 3 and 4 with two high finishes. On day 3, he was actually in 8 th place with 400m to go when he was forced to stop for one minute with the new Pit Lane rule, having received a second red card. This meant he eventually finished in 11th spot but was still only 1:57 behind the winner. On Thursday he did even better, breaking away from the lead group early on and maintaining a solo break until eventually caught by a small chasing group at 13.5km. Even then, he hung on well to finish 6 th, only 10 seconds behind the Russian winner.

PHOTO: by Mark Easton Editorial Race Walking is yet again getting busier and busier. With more races being held, new people trying the sport, performances improving all over and many new developments in progress, the sport will soon be facing different challenges to the ones we have long worried about. With the Olympics coming up and a constantly increasing profile in the media, we can only become busier and more popular, and more people will be needed. Many people give a lot of their time to the sport, appearing at events up and down the country, facing endless administration tasks, promoting walking events, coaching young athletes, timekeeping, judging, lap-counting, etc. And not forgetting the young athletes themselves, some of whom are now doing two or three training sessions per day, often over 50 hours per week, trying hard to reach the levels we encourage them to achieve. No, I don’t consider myself one of the twenty busiest people in race walking in this country! I wouldn’t like to name all the individuals who put so much into the sport, as I’d undoubtedly miss out many people who do incredible amounts of work but keep a low profile. It’s thanks to the many, many hard working people that we have finally become a sport to be proud of again. And we will need more people doing whatever they can to help out, so when you aren’t walking, please consider what else you can do, and offer to help out at a race! In the W50 5000m event, Victorian Pam Tindal's time of 25:18.53 bettered Heather Carr's W50 Victorian record of 25:26. This was a World Record when Heather did it some 10 years ago but since then, Lyn Ventris has burst onto the Masters scene and been steadily re-writing the record books, first in the W45 division and now in the W50. Now Pam has joined her in the W50 division and, with her current rate of improvement, is going to be a serious contender for record honours as well. Well done Pam. I will catch up next week. There can only be one Walker of the Week this time – the new world record holder for the 50km roadwalk – Frenchman Yohann Diniz. Racing across wet streets and battling strong early morning rains in Zurich last Friday, the 36-year-old Frenchman broke the tape in 3:32:33 to knock nearly two minutes from the previous record of 3:34:14 set by Russian Denis Nizhegorodov in Cheboksary in 2008. “This is the best day of my life,” said Diniz, who crossed the line carrying both the French and Portuguese flags, the latter in dedication to his Portuguese grandmother who passed away earlier this year. The performance was the second world record for Diniz, who clocked 3:35:27 over 50,000m on the track in 2011. But his race walking tour through the streets of Zurich will certainly prove more memorable.
