Heel and Toe 2011/2012 Number 42 HEEL AND TOE ONLINE The official organ of the Victorian Race Walking Club 2011/2012 Number 42 17 July 2012 VRWC Preferred Supplier of Shoes, clothes and sporting accessories. Address: RUNNERS WORLD, 598 High Street, East Kew, Victoria (Melways 45 G4) Telephone: 03 9817 3503 Hours : Monday to Friday: 9:30am to 5:30pm Saturday: 9:00am to 3:00pm Website: http://www.runnersworld.com.au/ TIM'S WALKER OF THE WEEK Last week's Walker of the Week was 14 year old Billy Allamby won the VRWC U16 5km club championship with a big PB time of 23:47. Billy, who won the Australian U16 3000m track championship earlier this year, is one of our many talented young walkers spread across Australia and I expect his times to keep tumbling as the year progresses. This week sees a two way vote between walkers who each excelled in their races last weekend. • 19 year old Blake Steele walked a PB time of 43:04.81 in coming 17th in the IAAF Junior Championships in Barcelona last Friday. Blake walked a PB in the World Cup in May in Mexico and has taken a further 11 secs off that with another top performance. • 55 year old Lyn Ventris continues to rewrite the Masters record books, breaking her own W55 10km World Masters Record by 25 secs with a time of 49:34 in Perth last Saturday. Lyn, who was IAAF World Masters athlete of the year in 2011, continues on her merry way, setting new standards that are going to be virtually impossible to break. As usual, you can vote at www.vrwc.org.au. RWA STATE CHALLENGE - VRWC, MIDDLE PARK, SATURDAY 14 JULY VRWC contested the annual Racewalking Australia Challenge last Saturday in Melbourne and our overall Racewalking Victoria figures will be collated once results are in from Bendigo and Ballarat. Rudolf Skrucany tells me that the weather turned out pretty good after looking a concern early on. It was raining and windy before the race and during of the warm-ups, but stopped just before the start. The wind remained mild for most of the time and the sun even came out - nearly ideal weather. It seems we are lucky once again. Numbers were down overall (only 53 starters) and we had a larger than usual number of people failing to finish. It seems the long season and last week's longer races have taken their toll. But overall, a good set of results with most age categories covered. Sabrina George was in action with the camera and the action has been captured as usual to http://www.vrwc.org.au/coppermine. Being away from home on a slow internet connection, I won't put lots of photos from the races into the newsletter so will leave you to check out the action for yourselves. Rhydian Cowley was the star of the show, powering to a 10km time of 43:18. He was chased by Nathan Brill for most of the way before Nathan called it quits at the 7km mark. Our Masters walkers also contested 10km with Ralph Bennett in fantastic form, clocking a time of 56:37 for an M65 90.90% rating. Bob Gardiner was not far behind with 1:02:39 for an M75 87.82% effort. And a special mention to Jason Kozica whose time of 48:57 must have been a big PB. 10km Open RWA Postal Challenge 1. Simone O'Neill 1:06:41 Mathilde Lacaze DNF (5km 29.36) 1. Rhydian Cowley 43:18 2. He explains Tim, results for yesterday's competition. A bit confusing because it was SAMA half marathon running Championships. At the same time, for the Walkers and the remaining runners a half marathon relay was held. The Bonython Park course is a 5k loop (which was extended to 5.3k for this event. Some did 2 x 5.3k loops making 10.6k, others did just one loop of 5.3k and a few just half a loop of 2.7k. Either way the team total had to come to 21.2Km. Marie Maxted and I, team No. 1 were the only team that consisted only of walkers and we walked 10.6k each. The other 8 teams consisted of both walkers and runners. I have included a column listing distances for each competitor. A 10.6; B 5.3; C 2.7.

She did understandably slow from there on but her finishing time of 47:00 was a 2:22 PB. It is a shame that she is too young for this year's World Junior Champs but she is eligible to contest the World Cup and, like Jesse, is an automatic selection as winner of the trial. • 19 year old Jesse also strode straight to the lead in the Junior Men's race and was on target for a sub-41 at the 6km mark before fading slightly in the warming morning conditions.

  • Re-Imagining and Updating Catholicity: Building Church Unity in a Globalized and Scattered World*
Re-imagining and Updating Catholicity: Building Church Unity in a Globalized and Scattered World* SANDRA ARENAS PÉREZ** ABSTRACT ontemporary Catholic theological debate on catholicity claims to recover a qualitative conception of catholicity, in order to correct C the classical emphasis on geographical breadth. The tendencies to iden tify catholicity with universality, to confuse universality with uniformity and to equate continuity with immutability, prevented the Church from developing a holistic approach to catholicity. In facing the challenge of globalization, Christianity can offer an alter native way of togetherness in diversity, which seems to be the current translation of the theological category of the catholicity of the Church. This article’s focus will be therefore on the role and significance of community building and the Church’s unity in regard to sustaining creation and addressing globalization. Key Words: Catholicity, Church Unity, Globalization, Commu nity building, Ecumenism. * This article results of fruitful theological discussions held with some colleagues at the Theology Faculty of the Catholic University of Leuven-Belgium, on the occasion of the International Conference “To Discern Creation in a Scattered World”. A preliminar version, with a stronger emphasis on globalization, was published as part of the memoirs of the above mentioned event: Lernen für das Leben. Perspektiven ökumenischen Lernens und ökumenischer Bildung. Leuven: Lembeck, 2010., p. 187-201 ** Doctor in Systematic Theology, Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium.
