Katie: People forget in the very early stages of our relationship I broke my feet and I couldn’t walk. So he was my knight in shining armour. He literally proved he was going to be there in sickness and in health before we’ve even said “I do”. I think most people would have done a runner. Carl has made me the best I could ever be. I’ve been sucked dry in the past. I was mentally abused and broken by everyone. It’s not like I have skeletons in my closet but everyone tried to get everything they could out of me. But now, I can go to sleep at night and I just think, “F**k it.” My bankruptcy is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. In what way? Because anyone who has ever been in my life before has tried to take from me, financially mostly. Now they can’t, as I’m in a bankruptcy. I love it. It has been a secret security to me that Carl is not with me for any money I have, as I don’t have millions in the bank. I want to stay in bankruptcy as long as I can. It’s only supposed to be a year and I’m like, “No!” The longer I can keep it up, the better for me. I don’t

The Cambridges CARRYINGON visit air cadets and, below, Kate tries out a flight here’s no doubt that Her Majesty’s 95th birthday was her loneliest yet as it fell days after the funeral of her husband of 73 years, Prince TPhilip. But the milestone was still marked on social media. Alongside an old picture of the Queen wearing a purple hat and coat, a caption read, “Today is the Queen’s 95th birthday. HM was born on 21 April 1926 at 17 Bruton Street in London, the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York. This year, the Queen remains at Windsor Castle during a period of royal mourning following the death of the Duke of Edinburgh.” But royal author and broadcaster Gyles Brandreth says that while the Queen is understandably “devastated” following the passing of her husband, she is still committed to her royal duty. He says, “The queen is fighting fit and full of energy. She is obviously bereft but she is driven by her duties sustained by faith. “She still has a great passion for life. As the court circular makes clear, she has carried on with her duties since his death. She’s still performed two official duties, taken telephone calls from at least three Commonwealth Prime Ministers. So she’s carrying on.”

en years ago this week, a blushing and beautiful Kate Middleton swept serenely down the aisle of a hushed TWestminster Abbey to marry her waiting prince. And after being shaken by recent sad events, Kate and William reaching their milestone anniversary gives the royal family some cause for cheer. The prince’s grandfather, the late Duke of Edinburgh, believed passionately in both family and the sanctity of marriage, and would have been delighted to see them toast a decade as man and wife. Former royal editor Duncan Larcombe, one of the 1,900 guests at the 2011 ceremony, recalls the special day. He tells OK!,“I saw William arrive and I really could feel his nerves. He was as pale as a ghost, fiddling with his uniform. “Best man Harry whisked him off to a side room right next to me for about 10 minutes. It really was the brothers at their very best – I don’t think William could have got through it without Harry. “Harry had a huge smile on his face. In an affectionate way, he loved the fact that his brother was petrified. When they left the side room, William had complete tunnel vision and didn’t speak to anybody except the Queen. “We had all been frisked and had our bags checked before taking our seats. Everywhere you turned, there were security personnel, with others dressed discreetly in top hats and tails to fit in. The first 100 people in line to the throne were in that building, so security was vital. “There was an expectation that you wouldn’t leave your seat, not even to visit the toilet! I had Chelsy Davy [Harry’s on-off girlfriend at the time] sat near me, David Cameron, Tony Blair and the Sultan of Brunei. “Nobody was interested in each other though. It was all about William and Kate. Even the Queen must have felt strange not being the centre of attention. After Her Majesty took her seat, it went totally silent. We listened to the cheers outside as Kate arrived. It still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up thinking about it.” 24 DIPLOMATIC BRIDE

Even though royal brides traditionally wear their hair up, Kate refused to comply. She wanted a “wavy and loose” look but diplomatically compromised with a half-up, half-down style. For the evening reception, when she switched to the looser look she preferred, William helped hairstylist Richard Ward carry a 500-year-old antique mirror to show Kate what the back of her head looked like. “He took one end and I’ve got the other and we’re shuffling along with this mirror. He’s great,” said Richard. Kate did her own make-up, having taken lessons from her make-up artist Arabella Preston, the co-founder of Votary skincare.

WWW.OK.CO.UK 25 ANUNEXPECTED EXTRAKISS The crowds expected to see a first kiss on the Buckingham Palace balcony – and were then thrilled when William satisfied their chant of “kiss her again” by spontaneously leaning in for a second. William’s goddaughter, Grace van Cutsem, who was one of their flower girls, looked unimpressed. However, it was the din of the bystanders’ cheers that caused the three-year-old to look so grumpy as she clamped her hands over her ears! I know my eldest son was quite understanding and was perfectly happy for me to suggest a few pieces for their wedding. I hope that gave some people pleasure.”

XFACTOR GUARANTEED The X Factor stage manager Diccon Ramsay managed the big day’s production and gave Kate the signal to walk down the aisle. There were cameras discreetly placed around the cathedral, while the bright lights installed meant William and Harry wore built-in sweat guards to avoid unsightly patches in their armpits. QUEEN’SVERDICT

After the ceremony, the newlyweds travelled to Buckingham Palace in the State Landau, which had transported Charles and Diana following their 1981 wedding. According to a lip reader, the Queen disagreed with the choice, telling the Duke of Edinburgh, “I wanted them to take the smaller carriage.” However, she also remarked that the wedding “was excellent”. During the ride, William could be seen telling Kate, “I hope I remember… It’s mad, it’s mad! Best man Harry’s on-off girlfriend at the time, Chelsy Davy, reportedly made him cut a line about Kate’s “killer legs” to avoid embarrassment. The speech was a hit, with Kate even shedding a tear. Wearing a fez, Harry told guests William didn’t have “a romantic bone in his body” until he met Kate and did an impression of him calling his new wife “Babykins”. Charles said in his speech that Kate was William’s soulmate.

BLOODSWEAT&TIERS There were two wedding cakes – a traditional fruitcake that cost £57,000 and William’s personally requested chocolate cake. After the reception, the couple headed to nearby Clarence House in an Aston Martin the Queen had given Prince Charles for his 21st birthday. It was decorated with balloons, ribbons and a “JU5T WED” registration plate. But their drive didn’t get off to the best start as William forgot to release the handbrake!

CHANNELLING SANDYAND DANNYFROM GREASE Kate wore a second Alexander McQueen dress for the evening event for 300 hosted by Charles at the palace – where she and William danced to Grease classic You’re The One That I Want. “Everyone was cheering, whooping, and they did a bow to each other,” said one guest. “After that, the dance floor filled up and the party got going properly.” Their official first dance, to Ellie Goulding’s live rendition of ’s Your Song, only lasted 30 seconds, with William reportedly asking her to switch to a faster number. HONEYMOONSURPRISE William kept Kate in the dark about the honeymoon, surprising her with two weeks in the Seychelles. They broke tradition by staying at Buckingham Palace on their wedding night rather than heading straight off on the romantic break. The couple left the palace the next day (above) but the honeymoon was delayed until 9 May due to William’s work as a search and rescue pilot. OK!

That got me in with ITV, then I hosted This Morning Live and then they asked me to join Lorraine.

Have you had any hiccups while presenting from home over this last year? Thankfully no, although last week while I was talking to Lorraine [Kelly], my puppy knocked over some lights. I could just see them falling towards me and there was nothing I could do, but it’s those moments that make you feel alive! It’s like one big family on Lorraine.

What’s Lorraine like to work with? She’s . She really is exactly as you see her on TV. She is the queen of daytime and it is an absolute privilege to be on her show every week. I saw her the other week and she was like, “It’s so nice to see you in real life!”

Fans loved seeing Cat Deeley fill in for Lorraine recently and some said she should become a permanent presenter. Would you like to see her more on the show? Cat was lovely and I couldn’t not smile watching her. I feel so lucky that I get to work with Lorraine every week and then people like Cat, who I grew up watching on SMTV, and Ranvir [Singh]. But it’s Lorraine’s show and it wouldn’t be Lorraine without her. There is a real ethos of women supporting women at ITV. There is no vibe of anyone trying to take anyone’s role. People are happy to have a go for half-term and then hand it back. WWW.OK.CO.UK 33 Who would you love to interview? Michelle Obama. I think she’d be fabulous. Doing a job like that [First Lady of the United States] and then stepping away, she must have learned so much and I find her so inspiring. I also love Davina McCall. She massively inspired me when I was growing up. When I worked in TV production, I worked on an early series of Big Brother and Davina inspired me as a woman working in TV. At the time, she was pregnant and she would rock up with her baby and her nanny, and that for me was so inspiring because I thought, “Oh, you can work in TV and have a family.” I’d never really seen that before her. After Davina, we then saw Holly Willoughby pregnant on This Morning, too, and it was an important message that you can do both. That was one of the reasons that inspired me to create Wonder Women because it’s about showing real people who work in this industry but also have families.

Did you learn anything from working alongside Holly? I learnt about professionalism. You can learn a lot by shadowing people and I’ve always taken people into the studio with me when I can. I really admire Holly and Phil [Schofield] and how hardworking they are.

Are there any reality shows you’d love to do? I’d love to do Strictly Come Dancing. I’m such a girlie girl, I love sparkle and I love to dance. I do think in a previous life I was a dancer. It’s also such an inspiring show. How amazing was Bill Bailey? He couldn’t do anything and he was flinging props around by the end! It just shows you can do anything if you work hard. I also think some producers would like to see me on I’m A Celebrity because I love dressing up so I think they’d enjoy seeing me covered in bugs!

Has working from home made it easier when it comes to juggling family life? I had a really good balance anyway, but it’s actually been more challenging in the house with the kids being there. Recently I was chairing a panel discussion for women in film and TV with Kay Mellor and I was in my living room and my kids were upstairs jumping off their bunk beds! I had to text my husband saying, “Can you go upstairs?!” When we were homeschooling, Mark would take them to the park when I was doing Lorraine. Having children through this has been a blessing because they give you a reason to keep going.

How was homeschooling? I’ve been lucky to have been able to broadcast from home throughout the lockdown and while things have been quieter for my husband, it’s meant that he’s been at home more which has actually been really nice. going through something. One night one kid would cry themselves to sleep, the next night it would be the other one. Then I would cry myself to sleep. But most recently, when I decided I had the mental capacity to deal with it all, it hit me hard. I laid in bed for three days and my assistant had to look after the kids.

What are the next steps for you now? I’ve now started a search party. I want to find him and need answers. His family say they don’t know anything. So I’ve got my own people looking and I’m on a mission to find him. My son has said if he turned up now he wouldn’t want to go with him. He says he doesn’t think his dad loves him.

As the father of your children, you must genuinely care about his wellbeing… For sure! People think I want to find him so I can get child support, but it has nothing to do with that. I genuinely do care. I can’t be angry with him yet because I don’t know what’s happened.

Do you have full custody of the children? It’s still ongoing. It’s very expensive.

Has your Selling Sunset co-star Mary Fitzgerald been a big support to you through all of this? Yeah. She’s been my best friend for 20 years. A lot of my friends don’t even know what I’m going through until I open up about feeling depressed or anxious.

What do you do to get through your depression and anxiety? I’ve suffered with severe anxiety since I was a kid. I had regular panic attacks, but I only realised what it was about six years ago. Mental health was so taboo where I was from and I didn’t go to therapy or anything like that. But in my adult life, I questioned why I’d get so irritated about little things. So I went to a therapist and now I take antidepressants every day. It’s called Zoloft and I’ve been on it for six years and I swear by it. It changed my life. I realised I was chemically imbalanced. I also pray and meditate.

Are you proud of how you’ve juggled everything as a single mum? I’ve been struggling. I have a lot of mum guilt right now because I’m so busy. I do feel like I can’t be as much as a connected parent as how I used to be. I feel like I’m not doing the best that I can. It’s really tough, especially over the past year and a half. 1 Plant power

I regularly talk about the anti-ageing powers of retinol, however – despite some smart formulas on the market nowadays – it’s still not for everyone. But now bareMinerals has come up with an impressive alternative. Its Ageless Phyto-Retinol collection, from £40, instead uses an extract from the picão preto plant, which has been found to have the same skin-transformative effects as the vitamin A derivative but with less potential for irritation, making ageless skin available to all. Just ask Hailey Bieber and her mum-but-could-be-her-sister, Kennya Baldwin.

3 Haircare helpers

Naively, I thought I’d be able to casually stroll back into 2 my local hair salon on 12 April, but alas, my first post- lockdown hair appointment is still a couple of weeks away. Fortunately, John Frieda’s latest salon-inspired shampoos and conditioners, £6.99 each, are on hand to help the, ahem, less organised among us through this final stretch – and beyond. There’s Blue Crush, for neutralising warm tones in brunette hair, Brazilian Sleek, which mimics the smoothing effects of a Brazilian blow-dry, and Miraculous Recovery, which hopefully will have my hairdresser marvelling at my hair’s condition when I do eventually see her again.

Top of the pots

Beatles songs, margarita recipes, original Disney films – some classics should just be left well enough alone. Fortunately, that’s not the case with The Body Shop’s much-loved Body Butters. These iconic dry skin saviours, which first launched in 1992, are now made with at least 95% natural-origin ingredients, are certified vegan and come in new pots made from recycled plastic collected from the streets of India. Avocado is a new scent, but there are 12 other favourites, at £16 each, to shop.

86 5Ready, steady, glow Not quite ready to commit to the regular ritual of fake tanning, but need a little something to perk your skin up? You need the new Self-Tanning Butter, £16.95, from the cheeriest tanning brand around, Isle Of Paradise. It’s a thick, velvety body cream with a touch of gradual tan plus IOP’s colour-correcting pigments, which together deliver a buildable, natural-looking glow while evening out blotchy redness and grey tinges.

If you can’t remember the last time you swiped on a lipstick, Huda Beauty’s new one is just the thing to ease you gently back into it. Roll up each parcel in the cling film and hold one end tightly, with the other hand, the thumb and first finger forming a circle, then ease the dough along the cling film, so you have a long, even sausage measuring about 30cm long and 5cm across. 5. Freeze these parcels until you are ready to use them (don’t attempt to cut them unless they are very cold as they will end up squashy). 6. When you are ready to cook the biscuits, take the parcels out of the freezer and heat the oven to 180°C fan/gas mark 6. 7. By the time the oven has reached the right temperature, the cheese sausages will have thawed enough to cut into 2cm slices. 8. Line a tray with baking parchment and arrange the slices on it. Cook for about 10 minutes until golden brown. You can move them on to a serving plate straight from the oven without them coming to any harm. 9. These are best eaten on the day they are cooked, but if you have any left over, they freeze beautifully. OK!
