Description

The forest was planted in two stages on farmland in 1994 and 1998. Creating an attractive mosaic of commercial conifer and broadleaved areas that are maturing well in the favourable climate and on the fertile underlying brown earth soils.

Sitka spruce is the principle conifer species which is growing at a Yield Class of between 20 - 24 and there are is also a small areas of Norway spruce and other mixed conifer scattered through parts of the forest which will produce a significant volume of timber when mature enough for felling.

The owner put a great deal of passion into designing and establishing the forest, which is obvious with the range of broadleaved species that can be found, such as Oak, Sycamore, Beech, Ash, Alder, Poplar, and some more unusual species. He also left his mark on part of the forest with his initial H clearly visible from the air, following the felling of the Larch that he had planted.

To the west of the forest there is an unusual area of Lombardy poplar growing in a very distinct pattern and several ponds and streams are scattered through the forest that have been left for wildlife habitat, which adds to the diversity of the property.
