This week’s winner of the Lark Plant was awarded to Mr AM Denford of Holsworthy for a British Blue Steer at £1150. Kivells notice to Store Cattle Vendors It has come to our attention in recent months that a large number of in calf Store Heifers are being reported, and because of this the vendors are having to pay large vet bills and cost of losses to the purchaser. In previous years we have found that vendors who have scanned their Heifers empty at the time of their TB test, have had a stronger trade on the day, and that has covered their cost of scanning, based on this although it’s voluntary and not compulsory to scan your Heifers, we would highly recommend it.

The complete programme comprises approximately 950 sites covering 4230 km of river and 27 km of canal. The full programme is completed in two years, with half the sites surveyed in any one year. Twenty-two key sites are visited every year, to assess annual changes? seven of the sites are solely to monitor discharges from sewage treatment works (STWs) and are not used for river quality classification. The complete programme matches the routine chemical monitoring programme, but includes additional sites so that all reaches which had been assigned River Quality Objectives are monitored. Fourteen sites, originally programmed for the 1993 survey, are also to be surveyed in 1992 to support the Operational Investigation into the impact of the Wheal Jane pollution incident on the River Carnon. Macro-invertebrates are sampled three times in the year; in Spring, Summer and Autumn. Habitat features and macrophytes are recorded once. t i N f t r r ' |l) 1*15^ Environm ent WaW A gency The floods in Boscastle and North Cornwall 16 August 2004 We are the Environment Agency. It’s our job to look after your environment and make it a better place - foryou, and for future generations. Your environment is the airyou breathe, the wateryou drink and the ground you walk on. Working with business, Government and society as a whole, we are makingyour environment cleaner and healthier. The Environment Agency. Out there, makingyour environment a better place. However, like so many other unbelievable aspects of the flash floods of 16 August 2004, that is just what happened. That crowds of residents and visitors gathered round the harbour on May Day to celebrate the village’s regeneration and the re-opening of nearly all the affected businesses, is testimony to the spirit and determination of the people of Boscastle. The Environment Agency was pleased to participate and to have been able to lend support to the event, which also marked the completion of our new culvert for the River Jordan and the other remedial work.
