Forward cattle eased slightly with a good run of forward non FA Aberdeen Angus Steers from Messrs Semmens of Penzance which saw a top call of £1095 for 3 23 month olds and British Blues from the same farm to £945. The top price heifer this week was £850 for 3 23 month old Limousins from Messrs R S Jones of Heggaton. Harder 20-24 month Continentals which require feeding were back £30-40 especially the smaller framed sorts. Younger cattle saw another strong trade with several bunches of 12-14 month old Hereford x’s to £600-£700, more would have sold well. Holstein Steers saw a stronger trade this week with a top call being £790 for 2 from Mr M Heyward of Okehampton. Younger 15-17 month old Holsteins up on previous weeks with many bunches over £500. This week’s winner of the Lark Plant was awarded to Messrs Semmens of Penzance for Aberdeen Angus Steers at £1095. Kivells notice to Store Cattle Vendors It has come to our attention in recent months that a large number of in calf Store Heifers are being reported, and because of this the vendors are having to pay large vet bills and cost of losses to the purchaser. In previous years we have found that vendors who have scanned their Heifers empty at the time of their TB test, have had a stronger trade on the day, and that has covered their cost of scanning, based on this although it’s voluntary and not compulsory to scan your Heifers, we would highly recommend it. On talking to purchasers they would be more than happy to give a little extra with the guarantee of empty Heifers. FINISHED CATTLE – 11 am The top price this week was 168p for a well finished Stabiliser steer Auctioneer: David Kivell – 07899 960272 from Mr S Hopper of Rydon realising a top price of £1122 with the other 3 averaging £1104. A good consignment of non Farm Assured cows from Messrs Law of 21 GRAZING COWS – 11 am Holsworthy saw several bunches of smaller framed non Farm Assured Auctioneer: David Kivell – 07899 960272 cows over £400 topping at £440.
