What does “Denominación de Origen de Pago (DO de Pago)” mean?

These regions aspire to the very highest standards with extremely strict geographical criteria, centring on individual single-estates with an international reputation. It is the highest level of quality recognized in , above all the others denominations of origin (as for example , Ribera, etc.).

There are currently only 13 estates in all Spain with this prestigious status: Bodegas MARTÚE is one of them.

Bodegas Martúe obtained this prestigious Pago Status On 2009 August 20th, with the publication in the Spanish Government Official Gazette (Boletín Oficial del Estado) of Castilla-La Mancha Agriculture and Rural Development Counsel order, Bodegas Martúe was endorsed with the recognition of "Vino de Pago Campo de la Guardia".

The Vinos de Pago quality mention ensures that the are produced from grapes of a very limited geographic area, with unique climate and land composition. This microclimate and specifications gives these single-estate wines their unique characteristics.

The order of the Government of Castilla-La Mancha states that the "Vino de Pago Campo de la Guardia" is delimitated to 81.06 hectares of specific of Bodegas Martúe in the province of Toledo to the red varietals , , ,, , and ; and the white grape . The maximum permitted yield is of 7,500 kg/ha for Cabernet Sauvignon; 9,000 kg/ha for Syrah and Malbec; 10,000kg/ha for Merlot and Petit Verdot; and 11,000 kg/ha for Tempranillo.

The wines need to achieve a minimum strength of 13º. Depending on the time of aging and the assembly of the different varietals, the types of red wines obtained in the "Vino de Pago Campo La Guardia" are:

• Vino tinto.– The comes from assembled winesin varying proportions of the varietals Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and, depending on the , may carry to a lesser extent some Syrah, Malbec and Petit Verdot.

• Vino tinto selección especial.– The red wine comes from special selected assembled wines in varying proportions of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, and, depending on the vintage, may carry to a lesser extent some Tempranillo, Malbec and Petit Verdot.

• Vinos tintos mono-varietales.– The mono-varietal red wines come from the aging of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot. They will be prepared from the best varietal each year, or the best two varietals in those years with an excellent vintage.

The publication of this order in the Spanish Government Official Gazette grants protection and validity of this quality mention designation at European Union and international level according to the Spanish Law.
