India Ideas Summit and 43Rd Annual Meeting 43rd Annual Meeting INDIA IDEAS TSUMMIThe United States & India: Connecting our Futures September 5-6, 2018 | Mumbai, India ABOUT US Formed in 1975 at the request of the U.S. and Indian governments, the U.S.-India Business Council is a premier business advocacy organization representing 300 top-tier global companies advancing U.S.-India commercial ties. As part of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, USIBC is the largest bilateral trade association in the United States, with offices in Washington, D.C., New York, San Francisco, Mumbai, and New Delhi. U.S.-India Business Council | U.S. Chamber of Commerce A Note from our President Dear Colleagues, Welcome to the U.S.-India Business Council’s India Ideas Summit and 43rd Annual Meeting. USIBC has been a part of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for over forty years, and is a cornerstone of the Chamber’s international focus and commitment. While the USIBC has grown, both in terms of its membership and stature, the Chamber wanted to recognize the important shift that our companies are making by bringing our annual meeting to India. Mumbai, the “city of dreams” and a vibrant capital of commerce and entertainment, is the perfect location for an ideas-focused summit. The summit will bring together leaders from business, government and society for an exchange of ideas on the future of U.S.-India connectivity. We look forward to hearing these leaders share their vision for the future of investment, technology and collaboration that will help to create a bright future for people in the United States, India, and across the Asia-Pacific. Most importantly, we hope solutions are reached and deals are made in the process. India and the United States are the world’s oldest and largest democracies, and share a commitment to upholding the values that allow for free and open commercial exchange in the region. These shared values allow businesses in both countries to thrive, achieving not only their financial goals, but contributing to local communities in the cities and states where they operate. As we look forward, the incredible work of USIBC members makes it clear that the milestone and shared goal of $500 billion in two-way trade between the United States and India is well within our reach – but we must continue to work together to get there. We could not be more excited to kick off this dynamic summit, and I personally look forward to hearing ideas with the power to transform the U.S.-India relationship. It has multiple uses and is a gift of mother nature. In the last few decades bamboo lost its importance as a daily life use article to modernisation and new age materials, but now with a renewed vigour bamboo is set to bounce back on centre stage to bolster the rural economy owing to the multiple uses in products such as engineered bamboo wood, bamboo ply boards, flooring, wall cladding, furniture, ethanol, charcoal and many other uses. The forest department has set up a centre of excellence for bamboo at Chichpalli, Chandrapur and in a short span of time two hundred artisans have received skill enhancement training on bamboo. Realising its importance and its future value, Government has already set up a Maharashtra Bamboo Development Board in August 2016. In addition, the Government also constituted a Committee to look into all aspects of this resource and give a road map for strengthening the sector.
