August 2000 COUNCIL DIRECTIVE 97/62/EC of27 October 1997 adapting to technical and scientific progress Directive 92/43/EEC on the conservation of natural habitats and' of wild fauna and flora THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION Having.regard to the Treaty establishing the European Community, Having regard to Directive 92/43/EEG (1) and in particular the ,fJIstparagraph of Article 19 thereof, Having regard to the proposal from the Commission, Whereas certain natural habitat types and species in Annexes Iand n to Directive 92/43/EEC should be adapted to technical and scientific progress, Whereas the Interpretation, Manual of European Union Habitats (BUR 15 version of April 1996) includes the new Natura 2000 codes which identify each natural habitat type; whereas the reference to the Corine code in Annex I to Directive 92/43/EEC should be replaced by a reference to the Natura 2000 code, HAS ADOPTED THIS DIRECTIVE: Article 1 Annexes I and II to Directive 92/43/EEC shall be replaced by the text in the Annex to this Directive. Article 2 Member States shall bring into force the laws, regulations and administrative provisions necessary to comply with this Directive before 31 December 1997. They shall forthwith inform the Commission thereof When Member States adopt these measures, they shall contain a reference to·this Directive or shall be accompanied by such reference on the o~asion of ~eir official publication. The methods of making such reference shall be laid down by Member States. Article 3 This Directive shall enter into force on the 20t~ day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Communities..
