– Principal Message from James Kozlowski

I’ve got to confess that I was a bit worried about 2019. This time last year I was reflecting on 2018, the year in which we won the Australian Government Secondary School of the Year, and I couldn’t help but think that it would be a great challenge to better 2018. Well, I needn’t have been concerned and I’m sure you will see why as I take you on a bit of a journey through the last 11 months - we’ve had another stellar year. I’m going to start with our academic success because that is unashamedly our No.1 priority. Perhaps the highlight was our 3rd consecutive year of best-ever NAPLAN results; in every category these were record results for both Years 7&9. Our academic extension program continues to produce student excellence across all years. Those who attended our G&T Showcase last Thursday were left in no doubt about the quality of work from our high achieving academic students. Our STEM program is in its fourth iteration and continues to reveal that the future of science, technology, engineering and maths is in good hands with Endeavour students. Two highlights of the program were being crowned Champions of the University of and Newcastle’s Illawarra & South East Science & Engineering Challenge; and, more recently, our Year 8 STEM Challenge that showcased our students’ abilities across a range of activities. We continue to excel in debating and public speaking with students achieving outstanding results in competitions. Of particular note was the success of Damien Murphy who made the Regional Final of the NSW Plain English Speaking Award, and Brae Ovens who was selected to deliver a speech at the Children’s Week Parliament in Parliament House. I could go on, but you get the picture that our students are excelling academically both inside and outside of the classroom. Everybody is aware of our High Expectations policy which has enhanced our culture of achievement. Recipients of Gold Flags at the end of each term are issued to students whose attendance, behaviour and academic work have been of a consistently high standard. Each term we recognise these students and thank them for setting the standard for others. We have built a culture of success, one that allows a diverse range of talents to thrive. Nowhere is this more evident than with our creative and performing arts program, with its pinnacle being our annual Performing Arts Showcase. On Tuesday night we saw 21 acts of drama, dance, music, rhythmic gymnastics and cheerleading. There were student performances from first timers to stars on the rise to our very own professional dancer Asha Rostron who is currently appearing in School of Rock at the Capitol Theatre. For me, and I'm sure for many others, this has become the highlight of our school year. A chance for all of us to come together to witness the depth and breadth of talent, celebrate what we are all a part of, and leave with a sense of pride that we are Endeavour. Our community spirit and commitment to worthy causes was on full display with participation in Movember, the White Ribbon March, Drought Aid and through performances at local nursing homes. We are instilling in our students the desire to make positive contributions to society. Once again, we have demonstrated our commitment to providing enriching extra-curricular activities: our school camps, field trips, cultural awareness activities and academic challenges provide students with additional skills and memorable experiences. The most exciting development in this space in 2019 has been the addition of the Duke of Edinburgh Award led by the amazing Jane Scarsbrook. It didn’t take long for us to be noticed as we were invited as guests of the Earl of Wessex at Government House for the Award’s 60th anniversary. Student leadership at Endeavour is highly sought after and we have been fortunate to have exceptional captains in 2019 with Steve Gamu and Ella Robinson and their successors are the equally respected Akash Biradar and Hannah Higgins. Our exceptional student leadership extends to our vice captains, prefects and SRC representatives who lead by example and are proud to wear the Endeavour leadership badge.

Our Targeted Sports Program has produced more regional, state and Australian representatives - across a greater variety of sports - than ever before. Individuals and teams have reached a record number of semi-finals and finals of state and national competitions across hockey, football, , , netball, cheerleading, rugby union, athletics, tennis, dance and swimming. A team sport highlight was finishing runners-up in the National Bill Turner Cup for soccer, and on an individual level Tomysha Clark won gold for at the Oceania Championships. Next year we can look forward to at least two former Endeavour students competing at the Tokyo Olympics. I must also make special mention of our third inductee to our Sporting Hall of Fame – Alex Johnston. Alex not only plays professional rugby league for Souths, won a grand final and represented his country, but he was also dux of Endeavour. And I am looking forward to announcing, shortly, our second inductee to our Distinguished Achiever Hall of Fame. We continue to add to our impressive state-of-the art facilities. This year we installed a five net high performance cricket facility that is the best in Southern Sydney, undertook significant upgrade works both in classrooms and externally, now have professional lighting and sound for our hall, and work has already begun on a complete library refurbishment. This refurb will expand the space, provide two additional technology rooms and include flexible learning spaces. This will enhance the already significant role that this area plays as a hub of learning. We continue to be recognised for our excellence by the NSW Department of Education and the wider community. Four of our staff members were acknowledged at the Principal Network Awards for outstanding performance in their roles. We were also chosen as the backdrop for the NSW Public Education Foundation’s 2020 video promotion of public education. And HSIE teacher Madi Jessop was a finalist for the ‘Rising Star of the Year’ at the Australian Education Awards. Perhaps our most high profile advocate is the Prime Minister. It's not often that a sitting PM appears in a video describing a school’s success, but this - and the several visits the PM has made to us - indicate his pride in Endeavour. It was another year of Endeavour in the media. Our schoolwide success featured in the international education magazine ‘The Knowledge Review’, and there were several articles published in the Leader and Canterbury Bankstown Torch. In addition, as of today, we have over 5,700 followers on Facebook, 2,200 on Instagram and have had over 29,000 people visit our Website. We are irrefutably the most followed school on social media in the Shire and beyond. I have an amazing team of school leaders, teachers, support teachers and administration staff. It takes a highly skilled and dedicated team to achieve the results I have just described. They inspire me every day with their dedication to their roles and commitment to the needs of our students. They give me enormous confidence that Endeavour’s future success is assured. Unfortunately, as is often the case at the end of the school year, we have to say goodbye to special people: Mr Bradley certainly fits into that category as he enters retirement. Beginning at Endeavour in 2002, Chris has given almost two decades of dedicated service to our school as a teacher, head teacher, football coach and leader of extra-curricular pursuits. Chris loves Endeavour and this has been obvious in everything he does. He has many admirable qualities, but the one most salient in my eyes is his strong advocacy for the students; he has always put them first. The good news is that Chris will continue to have a strong association with the school as he retains a football coaching role. Every day our wonderful team of professionals delivers an educational environment that provides opportunities for our students to achieve great things and set themselves on a path for long term future success. I would like to thank our young people for embracing those opportunities. You make what we give to Endeavour so worthwhile! James Kozlowski Principal

Message from Jocelyn Gooch – Deputy Principal

This year Term 4 is ending with unprecedented speed. This serves to highlight the busy nature of the year and all that the school community has accomplished. At present Year 11 are working hard, having nearly completed a term’s work of the HSC course and Years 7 and 9 have finished their yearly examinations. Wherever you look something exciting, challenging and new is occurring around the school. The talent that our students display in the classroom and in the sporting arena is staggering. Students are to be commended. They are fearless. It is evident how hard they practice, rehearse and study until they are satisfied with their performances. The level of confidence our students display never ceases to amaze me. What is also significant is the trust they feel within their school community to take risks as performers and to know that their peers will be behind them 100% of the way, cheering them on. Our talented students go from strength to strength. On Presentation Day, held on Friday 13 December, we celebrated the confidence our students have shown as students and as learners. I congratulate the students whose hard work and success was acknowledged on this day and I congratulate the parents who attended to witness the celebration, showing how much they value education and thus imparting this belief to their children. This year we have had a number of initiatives focused on respectful peer relationships. We remind our students that respect online is just as important as respect in face to face interactions. Young people need to ensure they “THINK” before posting anything online. We encourage parents to monitor their children’s social media activity. Students will soon receive their Semester 2 reports. We encourage students and parents to read these reports critically, with a focus on identifying their strengths and the areas to help them continue to improve their academic achievement in 2020. In 2020, Tuesday 28 January will be a school development day. School resumes for Years 7, 11 and 12 on Wednesday 29 January. Years 8, 9 and 10 will resume on Thursday 30 January. Best wishes to our students and their families for a fantastic festive season and a relaxing holiday period. Jocelyn Gooch Deputy Principal

iSTEM

On Monday, Week 7 of term, all of our Year 8 students competed in our inaugural Year 8 STEM Challenge Day. Our students were challenged to complete activities including navigating a robot around a maze, building an electric powered aeroplane and building a tower to carry the most mass.

Prizes and certificates were awarded to the winning team from each class. As seen in the photographs we had a great day exploring our students’ creativity in design, construction and coding.

It was a hugely successful day and our visitors from Schools Plus were very impressed with the STEM skills our students exhibited. We look forward to running the event again for our 2020 Year 8 classes and we thank our sponsor, Toyota, for their support in making the day possible.

Library

It’s happening – our Library is being refurbished! The refurbishment will include two new technology rooms and an expansion of space. A special thank you to our Deputy Principal, Mrs Jebeile, for her tireless efforts in making this happen. In the meantime we have been very busy packing, moving, storing and culling. What a job - but so rewarding. I would like to acknowledge Mrs Jane Bevern our library assistant for her hard work and extra long hours in assisting me with all that has been required. Exciting times! Once again the Holt family have donated to our library. This much appreciated donation will assist us greatly in 2020 with the refurbishment.

School Community Service

Congratulations to Rachel Morris (pictured above far right). Rachel's passion for reading and sharing her love of books is reflected in her generosity by often donating her much loved books to our library for others to enjoy. Rachel volunteers to read books and appraise them for feedback to the student body. We thank her for what she offers to the school community.

Finally, pictured right is Elissa Hariri in Year 7. Elissa regularly uses our library and is both a dedicated reader and a hardworking and committed student.

Wishing our students and the Endeavour community the very best for the festive season and a safe and relaxing holiday period.

Extension Classes

Welcome parents/carers to this year’s final report for the Endeavour Log. We have continued to celebrate your children’s successes in class, on fieldtrips and in various initiatives across the GAT program. Students in all J classes have been busy completing all assigned tasks for the year and sitting their yearly exams. Reports from staff are such that all have worked hard in preparation for success in both. On the extra curricula front, I have some worthy mentions. Early this term 8J HSIE attended the Dharawal cultural fieldtrip with Mr Rick O’Brien, Ms Gooch, Mrs Jones and myself, and select students from Years 7-9 attended the Brainways Quest Challenge at North Sydney with Ms Parkinson. Both events are highly regarded in our program and below are a few words on each: The Dharawal Cultural Fieldtrip 8J along with a few Year 10 volunteers took a trip to the Royal National Park where they explored aboriginal sites and observed many historical artworks including carvings and hand prints. They covered 10.5 km of deep bush and visited aboriginal shelters, middens, rock art sites, taking in spectacular views of the ocean and the bush. Many thanks to Mr O'Brien for the deep knowledge and respect for the land and elders that he teaches the students on the tours. It was a fabulous experience.

The Brainways Quest Academic Challenge On Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 November a group of six students from 8J, 9J and 10J travelled to the North Sydney campus of Australian Catholic University with Ms Parkinson to participate in the preliminary round of the Quest Academic Challenge hosted by BRAINways. Students worked in groups of three to solve various challenges from the fields of humanities, mathematics and science. Topics included philosophy, Shakespeare, complex numbers, logarithms and biology, just to name a few. Students felt inspired and challenged by the excursion, and had to rely heavily on their collaborative, critical and creative skills in order to succeed. Congratulations to Mohammad Khaled, Damien Murphy, Rachel Zhang, Anastasia Kerameas, Saul Spyrides and Anica Aleksic for all of their hard work and dedication during the Quest Challenge. Special mention also goes to Brae Ovens who was selected to represent Endeavour Sports High School and his State Electorate in the 2019 Children’s Week Parliament. Children’s Week Parliament brought together children and young people from across NSW to voice their ideas, passions and experiences in a parliamentary format. Brae had the opportunity to create solutions to the issues he was passionate about and then presented those ideas in NSW Parliament House in front of MPs.

Extension Class Expo

We were ecstatic at the support we received at our first expo showcase of all Extension class work from Years 7-10. I want to sincerely thank all those parents and carers who popped in to celebrate their child’s many creative and academic talents on display. It was a highly successful and rewarding morning shared by extension class students, teachers and executive. We look forward to celebrating an even bigger and better event in 2020.

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy and safe holiday period.

Endeavour Awards Night / New Academy Room Opening

On Wednesday 4 December the Endeavour Clontarf Academy held their annual awards night for the first time at school on the lawn outside the new Academy Room, which also doubled up as the launch of the new Academy room. A big crowd joined the lads with plenty of families, members of staff and several partners in attendance. A big feed of make your own hamburgers was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone before the awards began. The boys did a great job running the awards displaying great leadership skills and involving the partners. Former Endeavour student Kyle Stanley, a former NRL player whose career was cut short by injury, was guest speaker and delivered a great message about the importance of education and having a plan B whilst pursuing a sporting career. The night finished with entertainment from our very own Uncle Col Hardy which was loved by all. Our Principal Mr James Kozlowski even played the clap sticks and did the “shake a leg”. Congratulations to the award winners and we look forward to everyone coming back for an even bigger year in 2020. 2019 Award Winners: - Nik Smith (Senior spirit award) - William Leha (Junior spirit award) - Jonothon Wackwitz (Education award) - Coby Hardy (Top attendance award) - Ethan Scott (Employment award) - Jaiden French (Top trainer award) - Selwyn Smith (Encouragement award) - Isaac Hooper (Academy member of 2019 award)

Performing Arts Showcase

Our annual performing arts showcase ‘Mind Over Matter’ was held on 10 December. The event’s focus is on the importance of mental health awareness and supporting those who suffer from mental health illness.

The event was a success, with approximately 350 tickets purchased. That is by far the biggest turn out the school has had for a performing arts showcase and we couldn’t be prouder of our students, teachers and community members for supporting such a fantastic cause. With everyone’s generosity we raised approximately $4500 for the charity Livin’ and mental health initiatives in our school.

‘Mind Over Matter’ saw Dance, Music, Cheerleading and Drama students perform with both passion and commitment. A shout out to Mr Raxworthy & Mr Gedge (Music), Mrs Kaladelfos (Cheerleading), Ms Costa and Ms York (Drama) and Miss Kyriacou (Dance) for all of their hard work in preparing their students for the performances. It takes a lot of time and dedication for performance items to be created and stage ready. Thank you to our prac teachers Alannah Butler and Emilia Hatzikis who assisted with preparing students for the show. Thank you to Ms Jessop, Mr Joyce and Mr Smith for helping with backstage, light and sound.

To all the staff who assisted behind the scenes – thank you! Without you the ticket sales, raffle tickets, café, sausage sizzle and backstage would not have been such a success.

Thank you to our sponsors Hematime Fitness and Personal Training, Tribe Social Fitness, Hutwoods Candles, NRL Cronulla Sharks (), Sydney FC, Rula Papadopoulos (in memory of James Jonathon), Sara Jebeile, Nerium, Hair Funkd Sylvania, The Meat Store and Diamond Galleria.

Special shout out to Mr Raxworthy, Mrs Kaladelfos, Mr Richardson and Ms Rogers, along with Year 7 and Year 10 for entertaining us all with their Lip Sync Battles. You rock! Congratulations to our winners – Mr Raxworthy, Mrs Kaladelfos and Year 10.

Thank you also to our P&C and our senior executive who made our new lights and sound set up happen. Your commitment to the creative arts is very much appreciated by the students and staff.

To all Performing Arts students - there are no words to describe how proud we are of every one of you. The passion you brought to the stage was breathtaking, where your level of professionalism could rival those whose names are up in lights. Your work ethic and commitment to performance is something that not many high school students have and we are honoured to work with you every single day. You are all bright lights and we can’t wait to see you all shine in next year’s show!

Term 4 has been a very slow term for TSP Athletics.

During the Term 3 holidays our students competed in the All Schools competition, where we had great success:

Ivy Boothroyd (right) - gold in the girls 13yrs 800m and gold in the girls 13yrs 1500m

Jasynta Lampret - bronze in the girls 13yrs 80m hurdles

Renee Penitani - silver in the girls 12yrs 80m hurdles and bronze in the girls 12yrs 200m

Caleb Strahl - bronze in the boys 15yrs 300m race walk

Milly Boughton - gold in the 13yrs girls 3000m race walk

Well done to our athletes. We are proud of you all!

Our annual Sports High School Athletics Carnival looked like it was shaping up to be our best one yet with a whopping 110 students entered in events throughout the day. Unfortunately the carnival had to be called off due to the fires and the poor air quality predicted for the day. Students were very disappointed but hopefully we can have the same if not more enthusiasm for next year’s carnival.

TSP Presentation Day was held in Week 7 of this term. Our athletics students were well represented on the day. Our Junior Athlete of the Year went to Ivy Boothroyd, Senior Athlete of the Year went to Damian Puebla and our Most Improved award to Peter Kazas.

Ivy also won Junior Sportswoman of the Year for all her successes. Ivy has represented ESHS in Athletics and Cross Country. Her most noteworthy performances were competing in Athletics for Zone, Regional, State and Nationals where she received gold in the 800m and 1500m against girls a year older than her.

Alex Jones Director of Athletics Sports Science Centre

Term 4 has again seen some new innovations in the TSP Strength and Conditioning space. Our Year 10 Mixed TSP classes were introduced to ‘Program Builder’ where students were taught a range of strength exercises covering the key areas of the body. Taking into account the specific needs of their sports, students were then given the opportunity to design and implement their own strength programs. Additionally, Core and Olympic lifts including the bench press, squat, deadlift and power clean were a focus in Semester 2 with students learning the technical aspects of each lift and keys to performing them safely. Term 4 also saw the sixth instalment of Sydney University fitness testing. The program is now in its third year with extensive data already collected. This longitudinal study when completed in a few years, will provide us with invaluable information about our sports and young athletes and we are very lucky to be part of it. Our new outdoor training area, ‘The Cage’, is also taking shape with the space cleaned, secured and ready to be fitted out. With the growing number of students in our Targeted Sports Programs, there is no doubt that this area will be a welcome addition to Endeavour’s already outstanding training facilities – opening in early 2020. Until next year, from the Sports Science Centre…..“Make everyday a PB!”

Mr B Hopkins ESHS High Performance Manager

TSP Netball

What a fantastic year it has been for TSP Netball! Congratulations to Rohanna Makakea who was awarded our Senior Sportswoman of the year. This year Rohanna represented Sydney East at the under 15s and Opens knockout tournament. Every training session Rohanna displays great passion and determination and is an excellent role model to the entire TSP Netball program. Congratulations to Delaney Gwynn who was awarded our Junior Sportswoman of the year. Delaney gives 110% at every training session and is a great motivator and leader within our program. Finally, congratulations to Porsha Hawe-De Thierry who was awarded Most Consistent Netballer. Porsha is a proud member of the program who has displayed great effort and determination throughout the year. This term, to celebrate the year, TSP Netball have been going to Cronulla each Thursday for fun beach training sessions. The girls have been competing in beach runs, flag races, touch football and beach volleyball. A big thank you to Lesa Straker, our wonderful netball coach. Lisa is a great motivator and teacher, continually helping all the girls to strive to be better netballers.

TSP Football

A busy and productive term both on and off the pitch has seen plenty of highlights for Endeavour Sports High School TSP Football. Congratulations to our footballers who received awards at the TSP Presentation Day. Sienna Hillier (pictured far left) was our Junior Female Player of the Year whilst Melody Nelson (centre) was our Senior Female Player of the Year. Laura Pilgrim (pictured right) was named Most Improved Player. Alex Tims received a school blue award having played in the NSW All Schools team that competed in the National Schools Football Championships this year. Our male award recipients at the TSP Presentation Day were Daniel Goni - Senior footballer of the Year, Hayden Matthews (pictured right) - Junior Footballer of the Year and Mustapha Jalloh (pictured far right) awarded Most Improved Player. Our Goalkeepers of the Year were: Josh Kermond (pictured far left) - Senior, Max Vartulli (centre) - Junior and Jack Woolbridge (pictured right) - Most Improved. Congratulations also to Chantelle Symes and Daniel Goni on being awarded a Sydney East Blue for Football. They received this prestigious award as a consequence of being selected in the NSW CHS Firsts team. Special mention also to Melody Nelson and Jade Lockton who were successful in being chosen in the NSW CHS Seconds team. We were lucky to secure friendly fixtures this term against The Southport School from the Gold Coast, local rivals Westfields Sports High School and the U18/U20 Sydney FC Academy. The games are seen as an important part of the football menu we offer at Endeavour. They help to incentivise performance and intensity in our training sessions and importantly the games allow our coaching staff to assess individual player progress and re- design training plans around the observations.

We have had a number of Sydney FC talent identification days throughout 2019. These days target our Year 7 to 10 boys and girls providing an opportunity for Sydney FC coaching staff to look at our players and evaluate their progress throughout the year. A number of our boys and girls were identified for opportunities to trial/train at Sydney FC. Sydney FC have retained Brae Ovens, Hayden Matthews, Jake Girdwood-Reich, and Dominique Sameenang, for their academy squads whilst Aimee Hall, Alexia Saltirov and Peta Trimis were successful, once again being selected into the NSW Institute teams.

Max Vartuli has been rewarded with an exceptional year and included in the Sydney FC Academy for 2020. A further nine Sydney FC /NSW Institute players will join the program next year. Our program also caters to a number of Western Sydney Wanderers Academy players including James Husoy, Jesper Webber, Angelo Kalamvokis and Presley Ortiz. Congratulations go to Presley Ortiz who recently made his debut in the Foxtel Y-League and also Jesse Photi who has recently been selected into the WSW academy. Other successes for our players include being U/14 boys runners up at State Futsal, Senior Girls State Futsal Champions, Bill Turner Cup Runners Up and Jake Girdwood-Reich selection into the under 16s national team and achieving a Premier’s award. The Sydney FC environment will become still more prevalent in 2020 with our program growing to 180 overall with approximately 60 girls. This term saw a number of sessions taken indoors due to health concerns from the fires. This gave us the opportunity for the groups to work on team building activities, video analysis and review our goals set at the beginning of the year. Again our students displayed great focus and application to these sessions, having presented some well thought out solutions to a variety of scenarios. Our senior TSP Football students prepared and then facilitated group work with our incoming students for 2020. It was an outstanding success and a reflection of the focus, commitment and maturity that our students are displaying by giving back to the program. The incoming students and their parents made numerous comments on how much they appreciated the efforts of our seniors.

It is also with great admiration and some sadness that we say a huge thank you to Chris Bradley who will be retiring at the end of the year. The dedication, organisation and passion that he has brought to TSP Football over the last 19 years is greatly appreciated. He has been involved in particular with female football within the school environment, Sydney East, CHS and NSW All Schools having achieved many successes in all areas. We in the football family wish Chris a wonderful retirement, although he will still be spotted around Endeavour coaching our squads at 5 Sports. Overall, it has been a very successful year for all in our program and we can look back on how well all our students have progressed and improved in this supportive environment. As another year draws to a close, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our parents and carers for their support and look forward to a very special 2020. We wish our football family a safe and happy holiday. Mr Bradley, Pat McCann, Mr O’Riordan, Mrs Bradley, Ms Jessop, Anissa Tann, Stefanie Di Martino and Nathan Denham Coaches and Mentors

TSP Cricket

Cricket is in full swing now that summer has hit and Term 4 has been hectic for the Endeavour Sports High School cricket cohort. Games for both the seniors and juniors have been prolific with at least one game per week being the norm. The senior team, led ably by Akash Biradar, has played both Westfields and Hills Sports High for one loss and a tie. The game against Hills at Harold Fraser oval was a tight encounter with Hills scoring 170 off their 40 overs. Adam Singleton (72) and Sam McCulloch (46) batted well to put on 90 odd for the first wicket before a steady flow of wickets saw Hills in a dominant position. In the end we needed 14 off the last over. Marcus Fry smashed the first ball for 6 before Joel Murphy, needing 3 off the last ball, hit a 2 for an unusual tied result. Although not a win it ensures that we are still in the hunt to make the Davidson Shield Final in Term 1 of 2020. The juniors have played Hunter, Westfields and Hills in both the Sports Schools and The Plate (2nd X1). These have been closely contested games but unfortunately the Sports School side is winless after three games. The 2nd XI had a last ball win against Hills after good performances by Jack Heslehurst with both bat and ball, Chris Parthenis scoring runs in the middle order before Tyrone Mills hit the last ball of the game for 4. Due to our association with Cricket NSW, we have had the opportunity to be part of a program called the Elite Players Day. This involves small numbers of players from each of the Sports High Schools being invited to Cricket NSW HQ at Sydney Olympic Park. The players have the opportunity to be coached by the NSW Blues and complete a session as if they were in the NSW team. All of the students involved enjoyed the opportunity to train in a top class facility and gain invaluable feedback from Josh Lalor and other contracted state players. It also gives students an opportunity to be seen and attract the attention of “scouts” and coaches at this elite level. Our annual pilgrimage to the Bradman Museum was another great bonding experience, especially the 2020 Year 7 incoming cohort who have been selected into the TSP cricket program. The historical aspects of the game provided a fascinating insight into how cricket has evolved and how the game is constantly changing. This was a great day, even given that the bus decided to run out of petrol on the way home. Training has been busy with the seniors training early on a Wednesday morning and the juniors training Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. To complement this, strength and conditioning classes on a Wednesday morning have been well patronised and highly beneficial. You can see definite improvements in both fitness and mobility for all those who are attending regularly. We look forward to the annual parents’ night out for the incoming 2020 Year 7 cohort. These nights help us to answer any questions about the school or the cricket program and are an invaluable induction into the life and times of an Endeavour TSP student. Sydney East, coached by Tim Laws, had several Endeavour students in their side. Akash Biradar, Adam Singleton, Rahid Alam and Declan Hart all had opportunities to play against quality sides from around the state. Well done to those Endeavour boys who were selected to represent Sydney East in what is essentially the highest level of schoolboy cricket state wide. Endeavour won the Final of the Sydney 6ers 20/20 competition defeating Caringbah High School in a one sided affair. Man of the Match Alexander Parthenis top scored with 77 not out as Endeavour compiled 162. We then dismissed Caringbah for 84. 2019 Season Highlights  45 of the current 55 students selected in the Sutherland, St George and Greater Illawarra Rep Side  Akash Biradar selected as ESHS School Captain  2020 is the largest intake of Year 7 students ever  Sam McCulloch broke the Sutherland U/16 A’s highest ever score with a massive 171no  Alex Parthenis, Koby Freer and Hannah Gibson all being selected in the NSW Academy programs  ESHS TSP Cricket will be the largest cricket program of all Sports High Schools in 2020 with 78 Students.  Highly qualified coaching staff – 2 x CA Level 3 coaches, 3 x CA Level 2 Coaches, 3 x CA Level 1 Coaches  Clear Links with CNSW, Sydney 6ers, Sutherland SSCJA, Sutherland Grade and St George Grade clubs The coaching staff would like to wish all of our Cricket TSP, both parents and students alike, a happy and safe Christmas and New Year. TSP AFL

2019 started strongly with a group of dedicated Year 7 students joining TSP AFL, to complement the young athletes already in our program. The addition of new AFL posts to our playing field, courtesy of AFL NSW/ACT, has cemented our commitment to our TSP and AFL in general, and has added to our students’ enthusiasm. Apart from our regular program, to enhance their overall development, our young players participated with much enthusiasm at the Primary Schools State Carnival at Olds Park in Penshurst. The skills and knowledge of the finer details of our sport were displayed by our young athletes with efficiency and professionalism. Within the context of a game environment, they mentored the young athletes on the day in the umpiring of both boundary and goal umpiring. The experience was immeasurable and fun was had by all. Our students were also involved with the AFL Player Development Day at Gipps Road Fields, Smithfield. On the day our students participated in competitions, training drills and short games, further developing their skills, techniques and form. Throughout the year, the finer skills, intricacies of the game, techniques and development of our athletes, is the culmination of the teamwork of all of our coaching staff. Acknowledgement of the commitment, determination, professionalism and hard work must go to Connor and Jacob from the Sydney Swans Academy, Reece from AFL NSW, Tyler Smith, Dave Davids, Laura Grady and myself Arthur Kontikos. We also thank Bruce Hopkins in our Fitness Centre for designing an AFL specific program, ensuring strength and conditioning is paramount, and resulting in over 18 fitness records set in the gym this year. Our annual TSP Presentation Day was held in Week 7 this term. Congratulations to Harrison Parker as AFL Senior Player of the Year, Hunter Pickett as AFL Junior Player of the Year and Caydelan Mitchell-Bruce as AFL Most Improved player. I would like to also acknowledge the fine young athletes who have participated with determination throughout the year, setting and achieving goals to better themselves and to become fitter and more skilful team players. I look forward to working with you next year and look forward to the introduction of our female program. Have a safe Christmas and a prosperous and healthy New Year. See you in 2020. CONGRATULATIONS ALEX JOHNSTON - ENDEAVOUR'S SPORTING HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE

Alex has played for both the Junior Kangaroos and the Kangaroos. He has also represented Papua New Guinea in the International Test Match and has played for the Indigenous All Stars and the Prime Minister’s XIII. Alex made his NRL debut in 2014 and was part of the South Sydney Rabbitohs NRL Grand Final winning team. In 2016 he played in the NRL Nines scoring the opening try of the competition. Alex was a dedicated student, balancing both his studies and sporting commitments and graduated as Dux of the school.

Alex has a distinguished career in Rugby League and is an outstanding role model both on and off the field. He often gives of his time to visit the school and keeps in regular contact with his coaches and mentors. We are so proud of him! NRL Grand Final

Endeavour was fortunate enough, for the sixth year running, to be selected to participate in the retiring players’ presentation at the NRL Grand Final. The weekend involves a full day of rehearsals on the Saturday before the Grand Final and a full day on the Sunday. The upside of the rehearsal on the Saturday was that the boys were treated to a private concert from One Republic during their sound check for the pre game show. The boys involved this year were very cooperative with the organising staff and worked calmly and efficiently in an environment that is often frantic and high stress due to the size of the show prior to the actual game. Once again the boys were praised by the production company for their efforts and professionalism throughout the day. On a side note, Year 10 student Angus Sutherland was paired up with retiring player and ex Endeavour student, for the parade.

Year 9 Excursion

On 28 November, Year 9 Rugby League visited the Rugby League Museum at NRL Headquarters. The boys toured the museum, which showcases the rich history of the game. They were required to complete a workbook based on the various exhibits on display which included a cap worn by Dally Messenger, the game's first Premiership trophy, tributes to the Team of the Century, the Immortals, the Hall of Fame and interactive media displays.

During Term 4, Year 7 and 8 have been engaged in beach fitness and Year 9 have been doing jiu-jitsu. By all accounts a lot of fun has been had. A big thank you to our instructors Berto and Chris from Gracie Barra Jiu-Jitsu and John Wilkinson from Sutherland Lifeguard.

Finally, we would like to thank all our students for their hard work and parents and carers for their ongoing support. Very best wishes for the festive season and the holiday period. We look forward to working with you all in 2020 and to welcoming our incoming Year 7 students.

TSP Hockey

This year all students have continued to train consistently and improve on their hitting skills. TSP Hockey looks forward to meeting the new additions to the program in 2020 and building on its existing success of this year. Earlier in the term TSP Hockey participated in a Development Day for Sports High Schools run by Hockey NSW at Sydney Olympic Park. Students were coached by Kate Jenner (Hockeyroo/Olympian), Nicole King (HNSW RCC Metro South West), Alan Charlton (HNSW RCC Metro South), Paul Schofield (HNSW RCC Southern) and Richard Willis (Pathway Manager HNSW). The day involved athlete skill development with a five station rotation focusing on receiving, distribution, ball carry position, 3D skills course and goal keeping and hot box receiving. The students were also presented with a game awareness video and participated in a rules workshop. To finish off the day they took part in an interschool challenge 9 aside comp with regional challenge rules where Endeavour was undefeated. It was a very rewarding day. The students learnt a lot playing against more experienced players and had fun meeting hockey players from around the state. Our annual TSP Presentation Day was held in Week 7 this term. Congratulations Junior Player of the Year - Anastasia Flack; Senior Player of the Year - Hannah Russell and Most Improved - Chelsea Da Silva H Daly Mentor

Alicia Burns - Mentor TSP Basketball

2019 has been a fantastic year for TSP Basketball, with some great success over the year.

Most recently we entered a team to compete in the Australian School Championships in Melbourne. We took 11 students for a week and competed against some of the best schools in Australia. We had mixed results winning three games and losing four. We competed in the under 20 division and did well considering we only had three seniors in the team. We finished 7th in our division out of 12. Buru and Byron were the stand out performers - Buru averaged 28 points per game and Byron averaged 15 points per game – however, we had some great contributions across the board.

We are happy to announce the return of Lauryn Curtin next year to help coach and look forward to adding some extra talent to the coaching staff. We also have a strength and basketball specific movement coach on board for next year - Adam Treffiletti. Adam has been working in the industry for the past six years and has helped many of his clients transform their abilities on the court.

The TSP Presentation Day was held in Week 7 of this term. Congratulations to Senior Player of the Year Tuburu Naivalurua (absent from photo), Junior Player of the Year Julian Dubauskas and Most Improved Ava Garland.

We look forward to a great 2020.

Adam Kuenzle Basketball Coach/Mentor

TSP Baseball

The TSP Baseball program has continued to work hard on developing their skills throughout the second half of the school year. The team have been working hard during training sessions to improve on their fielding skills and positional awareness while at training. Repetitive fielding drills have allowed for progress to be made with ground balls and throwing across the diamond. Unfortunately due to the weather conditions games were limited in the second half of the year. The team demonstrated maturity and continued to train with intensity.

With the use of the new batting cages, all students in the program are demonstrating improvement with their batting adding both power and increased contact during at bats. The team will continue to improve with the additional use of the batting cages.

A number of players have experienced success out of the school program with Brad Griffin being selected to represent NSW over the summer. Oli Brodie, Noah Fylaktidis, Jonothon Wackwitz, Luke Morson, Ethan Reid and Joshua Fitzgerald have also experienced success having been selected into summer development squads. Maya Gillies has excelled in her softball outside of school also being chosen to represent NSW.

The TSP Presentation Day was held in Week 7 of this term. Congratulations to Senior Player of the Year Patrick Glasheen, Junior Player of the Year Ethan Reid and Most Improved player Luke Morson.

Overall a productive back end to the year with the team progressing in all aspects of the game.

TSP Dance

TSP Dance was jam packed with exciting opportunities during Term 4. It saw our dancers rehearse for multiple different segments in the renown Schools Spectacular. They were lucky enough to perform all of their hard work for a large audience at Quodos Bank Arena! These performances were also televised, which is a very exciting experience for our students. Schools Spectacular students include Jessica Atkins, Chloe Decampi, Monique Dunn, Maddie Gibbs, Georgia Gleeson, Mackenzie Leggo, Alena Pale Eli, Savannah Saleh, Lauren Setter and Skye Sutherland. Not only did Endeavour have students in the combined segments, we also had students involved as featured dancers. Monique Dunn was a featured Tap dancer, where we also saw Lauren Setter included as part of the State Dance Ensembles. This term has also seen the dancers rehearse for their annual performing arts showcase ‘Mind Over Matter’. This showcase focuses on the importance of raising awareness and funds for mental health. We sold close to 350 tickets to the show, which is an outstanding effort. Thank you to all staff, students and community members who either performed, helped out and came to watch. Your support means a lot to everyone involved. The night raised funds for both school based mental health initiatives and the charity Livin’. The estimated total of funds raised is $4500. Congratulations to everyone involved! The dancers had a variety of performances in the show. ‘I Have Made It’ was an African inspired jazz with a modern twist. This was to celebrate the success of our departing Year 12 students. Our very own musical star, Asha Rostron, lit up the stage with her solo ‘I Gotcha’ which was then followed Annabelle Accetta Kalkandis with her amazing rhythmic gymnastics routine titled ‘Rise’. The TSP Dance Company then performed their first place winning routine ‘Enslavement of the mind’, which depicts the barriers one faces mentally and how with determination and perseverance, they will succeed. Jessica, Lauren and Monique then performed a beautiful lyrical piece titled ‘Peace Will Come. ‘Endless Love’ was next, which was an HSC Dance work that was choreographed by our school captain Steven Gamu and performed by Lauren Setter. Year 12 then performed their final dance as members of TSP Dance. ‘I’ll Be There for You’ was a stunning lyrical work where Alexia, Ellie and Tea performed beautifully. The last dance of the night was performed by the TSP Dance Ensemble. This first place award winning dance titled ‘Victory’ depicts the inhumane ways that world leaders are responding to world issues and how with love, support and connectivity, we can all help each other, one step at a time. Overall, TSP Dance has had a fantastic year, winning first place with two routines, performed at Open Night, Sutherland Dance Festival, Stand Tall, In The Spotlight Dance Festival, State Dance Festival, School Spectacular, school assemblies and our end of year performing arts showcase ‘Mind Over Matter’. Dancers, this year has been a fantastic year and I feel so honoured to teach every single one of you. You are all special in your own way, and your talent takes my breath away every time you hit the stage. Thank you for working hard and making my job so enjoyable. I am so unbelievably proud of you all and I can’t wait to work with you all again next year. H Kyriacou Mentor
