Diversity of Insect Pollinators in Different Agricultural Crops and Wild Flowering Plants in Korea: Literature Review

We analyzed insect pollinators visiting fruits and flowers in different orchards and wild fields across Korea during the last three decades, published in scientific journals in Korea. A total of 368 species in 115 families of 7 orders were recorded to serve as pollinators in 43 different agricultural crops and wild flowers. The most diverse insect pollinators were the species of Hymenoptera followed by Diptera and Coleoptera. The dominant insect pollinator was the honey bee (Apis melliferas) followed by Eristalis cerealis, Tetralonia nipponensis, Xylocopa appendiculata, Eristalis tenax, Helophilus virgatus and Artogeia rapae. Study methods employed for diversity of pollinators were mostly sweep netting, but trapping was mostly employed for bee diversity and direct observation for lepidopteran diversity. Bee diversity was higher in orchards while insect order level diversity was higher in wild plant pollinators, suggesting the important roles of wild flowers for conservation of insect pollinators. 국가 생물종 목록집 National List of Species of Korea 「곤충」 (북한지역 곤충) 「Insect」 (Insects of North Korea) 환경부 국립생물자원관 발간사 2010년 제 10차 생물다양성협약 총회에서 생물자원을 활용하여 발생되는 이익을 공유하기 위한 국제적 지침인 나고야 의정서가 채택되었습니다. 이에 따라 생물자원의 이용 및 관리에 대한 국제적 환경이 시시각각으로 변화하고 있습니다. 따라서 생물자원을 둘러싼 국가 간의 총성 없는 전쟁에서 미리 준비하여 좋은 위치를 선점하는 것이 매우 중요합니다. 이를 위해서는, 우리의 주권 영역 내에 살고 있는 모든 생물종의 명세를 상세하게 파악 하고, 국제적으로 인정받을 수 있는 과학적인 자료를 구축하는 것이 반드시 필요하리라 생각합니다. 다시 말하면 무한한 잠재적 이용가치를 지닌 국가 생물자원에 대한 종목록을 최우선적으로 파악하는 것입니다. 2012년에는 국가차원에서 생물다양성을 체계적으로 보전 하고 관리하며 아울러 지속가능한 이용을 도모하기 위한 ‘생물다양성 보전 및 이용에 관한 법률’을 제정하며, 2013년부터 시행되고 있습니다. 이 법률은 정부가 국가 생물다양성 전략 을 정기적으로 수립하고 국내에서 서식하는 생물종의 학명, 국내 분포 현황 등을 포함한 국 가 생물종 목록을 구축하도록 의무화 하고 있습니다. 국립생물자원관에서는 이미 선제적으 로 국가 생물종 목록 구축의 중요성과 시급성을 인지하고 2008년부터 국가 생물자원 인벤토 리 구축사업을 지속적으로 수행하고 있습니다. 이 사업을 통해 국립생물자원관은 그동안 기존의 자생생물과 새로 연구․발굴된 생물종을 재검토하는 연구를 수행하여 왔으며, 그 결과 2011년도에 관속식물, 선태류 및 척추동물을 대상으로 국가 생물종 목록집 3권을, 2012년에는 무척추동물, 곤충을 대상으로 5권을 발간 하였습니다. 2013년에 최초로 발간되는 북한지역 곤충종 목록집은 한반도 북부에 서식하는 곤충의 존 재를 확인하는데 큰 의의가 있으며, 곤충자원 연구를 위한 참고 자료와 정보원으로, 그리고 정책수립에 필요한 기초 정보로 널리 활용되길 바랍니다. 또한 우리나라 생물자원 및 생물 다양성 분야 발전에 크게 기여할 수 있길 기대합니다. 한반도 전역의 생물자원에 대해 남북한 연구자가 협력하여 자유로운 연구가 진행되는 날 이 하루 속히 다가오길 기원하며, 그 동안 북한지역의 곤충 종목록 구축을 위해 노고를 아 끼지 않으신 집필자 분들께 깊은 감사를 드립니다. -

Amr INTERNATIONAL UNION FOR CONSERVATIONO OF NATURE - REGIONAL OFFICE FOR WEST ASIA About Environment Public Authority The Environment Public Authority of Kuwait (EPA) is an independent governmental organization dedicated to environmental action in addition to domestic and international legislation and policy regarding the environment. The Environment Public Authority was founded in 1995 and since then it serves as the epicentre of governmental action regarding the preservation of the environment in Kuwait. Environment and health protection is one of the main priorities of EPA by implementing deliberate plans and projects to protect air, soil, aquatic habitats, coastal habitats, biodiversity, and environmental impact evaluation. EPA focuses on community services and public awareness directed to different groups of the community especially the younger generations as they are the leaders of the future. About IUCN IUCN, International Union for Conservation of Nature with its Headquarters in Gland, Switzerland, was created in 1948 as a membership organisation. IUCN is the world’s first and largest global environmental network.
