In London, United Kingdom a network of alternative food initiatives exists challenging this agri-food system and bring about a transition to one that is more sustainable. However so far the unsustainable food consumption and production practices remain dominant and these alternative food initiatives remain on the fringes of society. In order to better understand the processes that influence the success of alternative food initiatives The Food Assembly, an initiative promoting local food purchased directly from producers online and distributed at local venues or Assemblies, was studied using the internal processes of learning, networking and articulation of expectations as an analytical framework. Contribution of an intermediary role of The Food Assembly headquarters (HQ) to these internal processes was also investigated. Semi-structured interviews were conducted of Assembly hosts and producers and a survey was conducted of members. The study found that existing learning processes could be improved for hosts through training on a range of topics including in particular marketing and for both hosts and producers through sharing sales analytics data.

    BIOGRAPHIES 1 BIOGRAPHIES Charles Arden‐Clarke Jonathan Brunyee Charles originally trained as a zoologist and ecologist in the UK and Jonathan Brunyee is a Director of the Pasture‐Fed Livestock South Africa. Under-resourced health, education, and ​ ​ transportation infrastructures make children, rural communities, and those living below the poverty line among the most vulnerable populations to food insecurity. With this in mind, our report aims to answer the following research question: How are economic consequences of ​ COVID-19 affecting food supply chains and accessibility to food in India, Indonesia, and Nigeria? We focus our analysis on India, Indonesia, and Nigeria because their large populations ​ and high level of economic dependence on the agriculture sector make them especially vulnerable to the current global crisis.

Abstract: The use of digital technologies in the agro-food sector is growing worldwide, and appli- cations in the urban and regional food systems represent a relevant segment of such growth. The present paper aims at reviewing the literature on which and how digital technologies support urban and regional agro-food purchasing and consumption, as well as their characteristics. Data collection was performed on Scopus and Web of Science. Articles were selected using a research string and according to specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) flow approach was adopted to explain data screening and selection. The 57 resulting studies were included in the final qualitative analysis, which explored the characteristics of the research studies and of the digital technologies analysed. Most of the studies analysed concerned the implications of digital technologies on local food consumption, especially focusing on consumption, primary production and hotel-restaurant-café-catering sector (HORECA), and to a limited extent on the retail sector. Our study is focused on Food Assembly (FA), a special kind of AFN combining the culture of social entrepreneurship and digital innovation to achieve sustainability and a high social impact. The coexistence of a digital platform and a weekly farmers’ market triggers, within this network, mechanisms of knowledge sharing and self-organisation. To date, however, few studies have focused simultaneously on online and on-site interactions within AFNs, especially with quantitative studies. Our paper aims to test the hypothesis that online and on-site knowledge sharing affects the success of a FA measured by customer sustainable behaviour change. To do so, we developed a quantitative analysis based on a regression model. We collected data via a questionnaire submitted to 8497 Italian FA customers, of which 2115 responses were included in our analysis. The results show that online knowledge sharing significantly affects customer change towards more sustainable purchasing and consumption behaviours, while on-site knowledge sharing positively affects sustainable purchasing behaviours.
