Bahman Jalali: Yes, it arrived in Iran just eight years after its invention. Invention is one thing, what about collecting? When did collecting photographs beyond family albums begin in Iran? When did gathering, studying and curating for archives and museum exhibitions begin? When did these images gain value? And when do the first photography collections date back to? The problem in Iran is that every time a new regime is established after any political change or revolution – and it has been this way since the emperor Cyrus – it has always tried to destroy any evidence of previous rulers. The paintings in Esfahan at Chehel Sotoon3 (Forty Pillars) have five or six layers on top of each other, each person painting their own version on top of the last. In Iran, there is outrage at the previous system. Photography grew during the Qajar era until Ahmad Shah Qajar,4 and then Reza Shah5 of the Pahlavi dynasty. Reza Shah held a grudge against the Qajars and so during the Pahlavi reign anything from the Qajar era was forbidden. It is said that Reza Shah trampled over fifteen thousand glass [photographic] plates in one day at the Golestan Palace,6 shattering them all. Before the 1979 revolution, there was only one book in print by Badri Atabai, with a few photographs from the Qajar era. Every other photography book has been printed since the revolution, including the late Dr Zoka’s7 book, the Afshar book, and Semsar’s book, all printed after the revolution8.

Nomadic Path
Nomadic path With the onset of the Neolithic Revolution and the emergence of Mesopotamian populations, groups of people who lived in the surrounding mountains migrated to the banks of the large rivers of these areas and founded human civilization. People living in Zagros Mountains (western part of Iran) were likely the first people who had domesticated some animals many years ago, were among them. The life of these people was dependent on livestock farming; and each year, looking for good pastures, they migrated between two sides of Zagros Mountain range. But this lifestyle with its ancient traditions is still alive in Zagros Mountains. There are still some Bakhtiari tribes who migrate annually between the tropical regions in Khuzestan (ancient Elam) and the cold and elevated regions in the east of Zagros mountain range. ARTA 2004.004 Shahrokh Razmjou Center of Achaemenid Studies National Museum of Iran (Tehran) Project Report of the Persepolis Fortification Tablets in the National Museum of Iran 11 Introduction to the Collection During the excavations of Ernst Herzfeld in Persepolis, an ancient archive of clay tablets was discovered at the northeast corner of the platform, which was a part of the Persepolis fortiﬁcation system. The collection was sent to the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago for further research. In 1951, after negotiations between the Oriental Institute, the Iranian Embassy in Washington D.C. and André Godard, a part of the collection was sent back to Iran to the Archaeology Ofﬁce in the then Iran-e Bastan Museum in Tehran. The rest of the collection, apart from 300 tablets returned in April 2004, still resides in Chicago for translation and further research. Achemenet août 2004 1 ARTA 2004.004 The part of the collection that was sent back to Iran included 3 wooden crates, containing 235 small boxes of tablet fragments. They were sent to Iran by ship via the Persian Gulf. The three crates were marked with numbers 1, 2, 3. Adherence to cultural and climatic patterns and adaptation to the conditions of the region and society is essential. Therefore, flexibility, appropriateness of the time, and the transfer of meaning are among the requirements for the design of spaces and monuments. The research uses the descriptive- analytical research method and employs the phenomenological approach to determine the relationship between the poet and the designer’s thought and the architecture of the tomb and in recording and transmitting the cultural-spatial identity of the city.
