Mr. Luckey’s mission at Gadsden Elementary Magnet School is to present the curriculum for the seventh-grade Civics course through a variety of motivating strategies in a nurturing classroom setting, and to equip students with the necessary study and organizational skills for high school. Cooperative learning and reading strategies are key ele- ments in lesson planning. Regular guest speakers make appearances to provide insight on particular topics for discussion. On Wednesday, May 7, local TV weather man Casanova Nurse shared with students how the weather affects us geographically. Students examined topics, made informed judgments and applied problem-solving skills to address historical, geographical, political, eco- nomical and cultural issues related to civics in the United States and the international arena. Additionally, students became involved in var- ious civic-minded projects. Photos submitted

FAMILY FEATURES espite having hundreds of options to choose from, finding the right — in the right fit, style and color — is a D task many women dread. However, getting smart about how to choose the best bra for your unique shape and needs will ease your mind, so your only worry is finding the perfect outfit to wear with it. Comfort is key Ensuring you’ve found the right size bra means little if it doesn’t feel good. In fact, women’s No. 1 complaint when shopping for a bra is finding a size that is comfortable. Innovation may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of , but a quick visit to the department of any retailer demonstrates today’s selections are a far cry from of decades past. New developments in bras — especially the emerg ing use of seamless knit technology and flexible fabrics and components — give much greater attention to comfort in fit, while also delivering support and style. Many popular brands have introduced flexible fit bra lines using seamless construc- tion and advanced components such as straps, cups and bands that feel customized to the wearer. The flexibility of these bras has led some bra brands to replace the traditional cup- and-band sizing system with a simplified alpha Smart Size system. Similar to sizing, this sizing system makes it easy to find the right bra quickly. The brands say that 10 simpli- fied seamless, shape-to-fit Smart Sizes ranging from XS to 5X are equivalent to more than 30 cup-and-band sizes ranging from 30A to 52DD. “Smart Sizes revolutionizes how women fit and buy their bras,” said Sandy Waitz, vice president of intimate apparel design and devel- opment for , one of the largest intimate apparel companies in the world. “With the flexible fit properties of Smart Sizes, women can find a bra that literally molds to their individual shape, including unique fit challenges such as between sizes and unevenly sized .” Popular bra brands like , , , Barely There and Just My Size all offer bras with Smart Sizes that are available at leading retailers around the country.

Size it up For years, experts have lamented that the majority of women are wearing the wrong size bra. The complexity and limits of traditional cup-and-band sizes can exacerbate finding the right fit. Here are indicators of a problem fit: If the cup is not filled out, or it wrinkles, a smaller cup or a contour cup may be needed. If flesh overflows, a larger cup or a fuller cut style may provide a better fit. The band should be snug to the chest; if it rides up, it is too loose or the wrong size. If the straps dig into your shoulders, you need a more supportive cup and frame. Your straps should not be doing any of the “lifting.”

Questions and answers: What should I do when the City is flushing in my neighborhood? If you see the Midway Fire Department crew flush- ing a hydrant on your street, avoid running tap water and using the washing machine or the dishwasher until the flushing is completed. Please drive carefully if you see the flushing crew working in the area. What could I expect before and after flushing? If tap water is used during flushing, it could come out discolored and contain sediment. If you encounter discolored water, shut the water off and wait several minutes. After waiting, check the clarity by running cold water for a few minutes, allowing new water to work its way into your pipes. If the water is clear, it’s OK to use. If not, wait a few more minutes and check again. In some cases, there might be a slight discol- oration for a few hours. This discoloration only affects the appearance of the water; it does not affect the taste or water quality. The water may also have a milky appearance. This is due to tiny air bubbles and will dissipate out and is not harmful. Avoid washing laundry with the water that is dis- colored. Wait until the water runs clear at the tap, then wash a load of dark clothes first. Hot water tanks can hold discolored water for some time after the cold water runs clear.
