RITA RUDNER Rita Rudner has been entertaining audiences for nearly 30 years with her trademark brand of neurotic comedy. After many routines with the nightclub mic, Rita launched her career by winning the laughter of Johnny Carson himself and becoming a regular on The Tonight Show in 1988. She went on to enjoy success in a variety of HBO specials, including Born to Be Mild and Married Without Children, and movies like Peter’s Friends, which helped establish Rita as one of the premiere female comics to emerge from the comedy boom of the 1980s. With her wide eyes, simpering smile, and little-girl voice, Rita Rudner might seem like just another female comedian who plays up to sexist clichés about how women should act. But in an era where many comics think that big and loud automatically equals funny, it’s a treat to watch Rudner’s witty, sublime routine. ritafunny.com
