Larry the Cable Guy Actor/Comedian Larry The Cable Guy Actor/Comedian With his signature catchphrase, “Git-R-Done”, Larry the Cable Guy is selling out theatres and arenas across the United States. Larry most recently taped “Larry the Cable Guy’s Star Studded Christmas Extravaganza,” which will air on CMT, November 21, 2008. The show includes special guests Tony Orlando, Fred Willard, Victoria Jackson, Charlie Callas, Joey Fatone, musical guest Montgomery Gentry and many more. Larry also co-starred with Ivana Milicevic, Yaphet Kotto, Peter Stormare, Joe Mantegna, Jenny McCarthy and Eric Roberts in Witless Protection. In this feature film, Larry stars as a small town sheriff who witnesses what he believes is a kidnapping, and rushes to rescue the beautiful victim, played by Ivana Milicevic (Casino Royale). The film is currently available on DVD. Prior to Witless Protection, Larry starred in the film Delta Farce which was released by Lionsgate on May 11, 2007. The movie also starred Bill Engvall and DJ Qualls and is currently available on DVD. His first feature Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector was released by Lionsgate on March 24, 2006. The comedy starred Joe Pantoliano, Joanna Cassidy, and Tony Hale. The DVD was released by Paramount Home Video on August 8, 2006 and sold more than 1 million copies in the first week of release. Larry is the voice of Mater in the Golden Globe winning animated feature film Cars from Disney/Pixar. Cars was released on June 9, 2006 and opened at # 1 at the box office, and grossed over 200 million dollars domestically. Larry was part of the highly successful concert Blue Collar Comedy Tour, which grossed more than 15 million dollars. The ensemble cast of comedians included Jeff Foxworthy and Bill Engvall. The tour’s success led to Blue Collar Comedy Tour, The Movie, which premiered on Comedy Central in November of 2003 and at the time, was the highest rated movie in the channel’s history. The DVD has sold more than 4 million units. The sequel Blue Collar Comedy Tour Rides Again, has sold more than 3 million units and is the 3rd most watched telecast in Comedy Central’s history. In March of 2006, the Blue Collar boys reunited to shoot Blue Collar Comedy Tour, One For The Road in Washington, DC at the Warner Theater. The movie had its world premiere on Comedy Central June 4, 2006, again receiving some of the highest ratings. The soundtrack was nominated for a 2006 Grammy award. His last special was on VH1. Larry The Cable Guy’s Christmas Spectacular is a throwback to the old school Christmas variety shows and is currently available on DVD. The special stars Tony Orlando, Lisa Lampanelli, Jeffrey Ross, Vicki Lawrence, George Wallace, Flavor Flav and many more surprise guest. His first comedy album release Lord, I Apologize has reached gold status, selling more than 500,000 copies. The CD was # 1 on the Billboard Comedy Charts for fifteen weeks in a row. Larry‘s DVD special Git-R-Done, has sold more than 1 million copies and has been certified platinum. The special aired on Comedy Central and gave the network their second biggest Sunday night ratings in the channel’s history. Larry also starred in Blue Collar TV a sketch comedy series for The WB network which premiered on July 29, 2004. 5.4 million people watched the show and it was the second most watched show on television in that time period. Larry’s comedy CD Morning Constitutions was released on April 3, 2007 and debuted at # 1 on the Billboard Comedy Charts. The DVD was released in June of 2007 and the special aired on Comedy Central, June 3, 2007. His previous release, The Right To Bare Arms (Jack Records/Warner Bros. Records) debuted at # 1 on the Sounds can Comedy Chart, # 1 on the Country Chart, and # 7 on the Top 200 Chart. This marked the first time in the history of Soundscan that a comedy album has charted at # 1 on the Country Chart. It has been certified gold (500,000 units) by the RIAA. The Right To Bare Arms also received a Grammy nomination. His first Christmas CD, “A Very Larry Christmas” has also been certified gold (500,000 unites). Larry has won Billboard’s 2005 Comedy Artist of the year and Comedy Album of the year. He is a bestselling author and his book Git-R-Done, (October 25, 2005) debuted at # 26 on the New York Times bestseller list. Larry was named to Forbes Celebrity 100 list for the second year in a row. This lists the hottest and most successful people in the entertainment industry. Larry also recently received the 2006 Billboard Top Comedy Tour Award. .

Outside of the rules and constraints of serious discourse and cultural production, these comedic corrections thrive on discursive and semiotic ambiguity and temporality. Comedic corrections offer alternate interpretations overlooked or silenced by hegemonic structures and operating modes of cultural common sense. The view that their effects are ephemeral and insignificant is an incomplete and misguided evaluation. Since this paper adopts Hegel’s understanding of comedy as the spirit (Geist) made material, its very constitution, and thus its power, resides in exposing the internal thought processes often left unexamined, bringing them into the foreground, dissecting them, and exposing them for ridicule and transformation. In essence, the work of comedy is to consider all points of human processing and related structuration as fair game. The phenomenological nature of comedy calls for a micro-level examination. Select examples from The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour (1968), The Richard Pryor Show (1977), Saturday Night Live (1990), and Chappelle’s Show (2003) will demonstrate representative ways that comedy attacks and transforms racial hegemony. Keywords: comedy, cultural sociology, popular culture, race and racism, resistance. During periods of social unrest, what micro-level actions are available to the public? Or, how does a particular society respond to inequities that are widely shared and agreed upon as intolerable aspects of a society? One popular method to challenge a hegemonic structure, and to survive it, is comedy.

    Movie review: ‘Cars 3’ NEW YORK — Fasten your seatbelts and start your engines for a wild (and often ear- splitting) ride in “Cars 3” (Disney), the latest installment of the family-friendly animated franchise. Six years after the initial sequel and 11 since the series began with “Cars,” the anthropomorphic autos are back with a vengeance. Director Brian Fee ramps up the racing action (and the roar of the engines) while introducing a fleet of new characters sure to please young viewers — not to mention toy manufacturers. Happily, there’s much more than the dizzying blur of NASCAR-like action. Screenwriters Kiel Murray, Bob Peterson and Mike Rich inject a nice amount of heart and pathos into the comedic plot, and add winning messages about second chances and the value of mentoring. The years have been kind to ace racer Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson). He’s still at the top of his game. But just over his shoulder is a new generation of faster vehicles, like the brash rookie Jackson Storm (voice of Armie Hammer). “Enjoy your retirement,” Jackson tells Lightning as he whizzes past. In a flash, Lightning is sidelined by an accident. Disillusioned and depressed, he retreats to his adopted home of Radiator Springs. There he draws on the support of his loyal tow-truck sidekick, Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy), and comely Porsche sweetheart, Sally (voice of Bonnie Hunt). Sally knows Lightning must look to the future. “Don’t fear failure,” she insists. “Take a chance. Try something new.” A spiffy fresh paint job by Ramone (voice of Cheech Marin) helps.

    Legal Lessons in On-Stage Character Development: Comedians, Characters, Cable Guys & Copyright Convolutions Clay Calvert⊗ ABSTRACT This article addresses the trials and tribulations faced by stand-up comedians who seek copyright protection for on-stage characters they create, often during solo performances. The article initially explores the current, confused state of the law surrounding the copyrightability of fictional characters. The doctrinal muddle is magnified for comedians because the case law that addresses the fictional character facet of copyright jurisprudence overwhelmingly involves characters developed within the broader framework of plots and storylines found in traditional media artifacts such as books, comic strips, cartoons and movies. The article then deploys the 2014 federal court ruling in Azaria v. Bierko as a timely analytical springboard for addressing comedic-character copyright issues. Finally, the article offers multiple tips and suggestions for comedians and actors seeking copyright protection in their on- stage characters. I. As it is now, the only protection comics have is self-help, meaning comedians take punishing thefts into their own hands. This note will dive into the reasons why the current legislature and courts refuse to recognize jokes as copyrightable.
