I ll Resolution No. 5 on regional frequency planning for broadcasting ................................. 113 / 1 (Preamble, Art. 1) REGIONAL AGREEMENT CONCERNING THE USE BY THE BROADCASTING SERVICE OF FREQUENCIES IN THE MEDIUM FREQUENCY BAND IN THE AFRICAN BROADCASTING AREA PREAMBLE The undersigned Delegates of the Administrations of the following Members of the International Telecommunication Union, meeting in Geneva for a Special Regional Conference convened under the terms of Article 7 of the International Telecommunication Convention, Geneva, 1959, have adopted, subject to the approval of their Administrations, the following provisions relating to the broadcasting service in the African Broadcasting Area for the band between 525 and 1605 kc/s allocated on a primary basis to the broadcasting service under Article 5 of the Radio Regulations, Geneva, 1959: Algeria (Algerian Democratic and Popular Republic), Burundi (Kindgom of), Cameroon (Federal Republic of), Central African Republic, Chad ( Republic of the), Congo (Demo cratic Republic of the), Congo (Republic of the) (Brazzaville), Dahomey (Republic of), Ethiopia, France, Gabon Republic, Ghana, Group of Territories represented by the French Overseas Post and Telecommunication Agency, Guinea (Republic of), Ivory Coast ( Repu blic of the), Kenya, Liberia (Republic of), Malagasy Republic, Malawi, Mali (Republic of), Mauritania (Islamic Republic of), Morocco (Kingdom of), Niger (Republic of the), Nigeria (Federal Republic of), Overseas Territories for the international relations of which the Governement of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland are responsible, Portuguese Oversea Provinces, Rwanda (Republic of), Senegal (Repu blic of the), Spain, Spanish Provinces in Africa, Tanzania (United Republic of), Togolese Republic, Uganda, United Arab Republic, Upper Volta (Republic of), Zambia (Republic of). ARTICLE 1 Definitions For the purposes of the present Agreement, the following terms shall have the meanings defined below: Union: The International Telecommunication Union; Secretary-General: The Secretary-General of the Union; I.F.R.B.: The International Frequency Registration Board; C.C.I.R.: The International Radio Consultative Committee; Convention: The International Telecommunication Convention, Geneva, 1959; Radio Regulations: The Radio Regulauons, Geneva, 1959; (Art. 1-3) i 8 African Broadcasting Area: The term African Broadcasting Area designates: a) African countries, parts of countries, territories and groups of territories situated between the parallels
