Palabras clave: Formación Taraises, Cretácico Inferior, Ammonoideos, Tafonomía, Microfacies, Ambiente de depósito, Paleoecología, Correlación Estratigráfica/Bioestratigráfica vii ABSTRACT Two localities of the Taraises formation, corresponding to the Lower Cretaceous, were sampled in Galeana, in the state of Nuevo León. Samples of rock and fossils of ammonoids were obtained to determine the paleoecological conditions in which their bodies were sedimented. To indicate these conditions, the textures of microfacies were determined for each locality and, in addition to the micropaleontological content, sedimentation conditions were obtained in which these outcrops were formed. To make an adequate inference, taphonomic characteristics were analyzed in the fossils found in each sampling zone, in addition to integrating the results of diversity and dominance of organisms. Obtained results for each locality, in which a comparison of all the factors found was made, it was concluded that both the sedimentation conditions determine the state of preservation of the fossils and that the age of the localities is different for the two collection areas. WIMBLEDON3 Key words: Ammonoidea, Ataxioceratidae, Himalayitidae, Neocomitidae, Upper Tithonian, Le Chouet, South-East France. Abstract. The aim of this paper is to document the ammonite fauna of the upper part of the Late Tithonian collected at the key section of Le Chouet (Drôme, SE France). Emphasis is laid on new and poorly known Ataxioceratidae, Himalayitidae and Neocomitidae from the upper part of the Tithonian. Among the Ataxioceratidae, a new account on the taxonomy and relationship between Paraulacosphinctes Schindewolf and Moravisphinctes Tavera is presented. Regarding the Himalayitidae, the range and content of Micracanthoceras Spath is discussed and two new genera are introduced: Ardesciella gen. nov., for a group of Mediterranean ammonites that is homoeomorphic with the Andean genus Corongoceras Spath, and Pratumidiscus gen. nov. for a specimen that shows morphological similarities with the Boreal genera Riasanites Spath and Riasanella Mitta. Finally, the occurrence of Neocomitidae in the uppermost Tithonian is documented by the presence of the reputedly Berriasian genera Busnardoiceras Tavera and Pseudargentiniceras Spath. INTRODUCTION known Perisphinctoidea from the Upper Tithonian of this reference section. Additional data on the Himalayitidae in- The unique character of the ammonite fauna of Le Chouet cluding the description and discussion of Boughdiriella (near Les Près, Drôme, France) (Fig. 1) has already been chouetensis gen. nov. sp. nov. are to be published elsewhere outlined by Le Hégarat (1973), but, so far, only a handful of (Frau et al., 2014).

Taxonomic and ecological analysis of the ammonite assemblages, as well as their general paleogeographical setting, indicate that the Albian deposits in the Polish part of the Central European Basin accumulated under shallow or extremely shallow marine conditions, while those of the High-Tatra Swell were deposited in an open sea environment. The Boreal character of the ammonite faunas in the epicontinental area of Poland and the Tethyan character of those in the Tatra Mountains are evident in the composition of the analyzed assemblages.

China Received 24 January 2007; accepted in revised form 14 May 2007 Available online 28 November 2007 Abstract Lithostratigraphic studies of the Upper JurassiceLower Cretaceous sedimentary successions exposed in the TingrieGyangze area, south- eastern Tibet resulted in the establishment of a revised stratigraphic framework. A major crustal fault separates the southern Tibetan sedimentary successions into a Southern Zone and a Northern Zone. The Upper JurassiceLower Cretaceous strata of the Southern Zone are subdivided into the Menkadun Formation (Oxfordian, Kimmeridgian, up to lower Upper Tithonian), the Gucuo Formation (Upper Tithonian to Lower Albian) and the overlying Dongshan Formation (Upper Albian). The Gucuo Formation is further subdivided into a quartz arenite unit, which is overlain by a shale unit, in turn overlain by a volcaniclastic sandstone unit. The youngest cluster of detrital zircon absolute age data (127.7 Æ 1.8 Ma) from the lower part of the volcaniclastic unit of the Gucuo Formation place the volcanic event before the Late Barremian. In the Northern Zone, the Upper JurassiceLower Cretaceous strata have been subdivided into four formations: the Zhera Formation (Upper Jurassic), the Weimei Formation (Tithonian), the Rilang Formation (?Berriasian) and the Gyabula Formation (? post-Valanginian).

This paper concerns thè conclusive researchs on Pliensbachian Phyllo- ceratina from Italy, among which thè genera Geyeroceras Hyatt, 1900 and Partschiceras Fucini, 1923 were already investigated (Fantini Sestini, 1969, 1971). The fossils were collected in stratigraphic sections from Selva di Zandobbio and Alpe Turati in Lombar- dy and from thè M. Nerone area in thè centrai Apennines. They consist of internai moulds and complete shells. The family Juraphyllitidae is present with genera: Jura- phyllites Miiller, Meneghiniceras Hyatt, Harpophylloceras Spath e Galaticeras Spath. Only four genera of Pliensbachian age can be attributed to thè fam. Phylloceratidae; they are as follows: Phylloceras Suess, 1865 with thè two subgenera Phylloceras s.s. e Zetoceras Kovacs, 1939. Test with ornaments visible at low magnification; internai mould smooth, section elliptical, ovai or sublanceolate; E/L and L/U with or without phylloids (minor subdivisions of folioles). Partschiceras Fucini, 1923 ( = Procliviceras Fucini, 1923; Phyllopachyceras Spath, 1925). Test with well distinct riblets, sometimes with ribs and periumbilical ridges; inter nai mould with weak constrictions in thè inner whorls and with very weakly outlined ornaments on thè venter; E/L with phylloids; Hantkeniceras Kovacs, 1939 (= Calaiceras Kovacs, 1939). Test smooth; internai mould smooth with rare weak nearly straight constrictions; L/U with 2/3 folioles jointed at their base. Calliphylloceras Spath, 1927. Test with very well developed riblets along with strong rounded ribs; internai mould smooth with 4 to 8 deep arcuate constrictions; L/U with 2 folioles jointed at their base.

  • Remarks on the Tithonian–Berriasian Ammonite Biostratigraphy of West Central Argentina
Volumina Jurassica, 2015, Xiii (2): 23–52 DOI: 10.5604/17313708 .1185692 Remarks on the Tithonian–Berriasian ammonite biostratigraphy of west central Argentina Alberto C. RICCARDI 1 Key words: Tithonian–Berriasian, ammonites, west central Argentina, calpionellids, nannofossils, radiolarians, geochronology. Abstract. Status and correlation of Andean ammonite biozones are reviewed. Available calpionellid, nannofossil, and radiolarian data, as well as radioisotopic ages, are also considered, especially when directly related to ammonite zones. There is no attempt to deal with the definition of the Jurassic–Cretaceous limit. Correlation of the V. mendozanum Zone with the Semiforme Zone is ratified, but it is open to question if its lower part should be correlated with the upper part of the Darwini Zone. The Pseudolissoceras zitteli Zone is characterized by an assemblage also recorded from Mexico, Cuba and the Betic Ranges of Spain, indicative of the Semiforme–Fallauxi standard zones. The Aulacosphinctes proximus Zone, which is correlated with the Ponti Standard Zone, appears to be closely related to the overlying Wind hauseniceras internispinosum Zone, although its biostratigraphic status needs to be reconsidered. On the basis of ammonites, radiolarians and calpionellids the Windhauseniceras internispinosum Assemblage Zone is approximately equivalent to the Suarites bituberculatum Zone of Mexico, the Paralytohoplites caribbeanus Zone of Cuba and the Simplisphinctes/Microcanthum Zone of the Standard Zonation. The C. alternans Zone could be correlated with the uppermost Microcanthum and “Durangites” zones, although in west central Argentina it could be mostly restricted to levels equivalent to the “Durangites Zone”. The Substeueroceras koeneni Zone ranges into the Occitanica Zone, Subalpina and Privasensis subzones, the A.

We compiled detailed information on 252 occurrences of belemnites in six National Park Service (NPS) areas in Alaska. This information was based on published literature and maps, unpublished U.S. Geological Survey internal fossil reports (“Examination and Report on Referred Fossils” or E&Rs), the U.S. Geological Survey Mesozoic locality register, the Alaska Paleontological Database, the NPS Paleontology Archives and our own records of belemnites found in museum collections. Few specimens have been identified and many consist of fragments. However, even these suboptimal specimens provide evidence that belemnites are present in given formations and provide direction for future research. Two especially interesting avenues for research concern the time range of belemnites in Alaska. Belemnites are known to have originated in what is now Europe in the Early Jurassic Hettangian and to have a well-documented world-wide distribution in the Early Jurassic Toarcian.

Xh ieuican%Mllisdllm 1Soxftates PUBLISHED BY THE AMERICAN MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY CENTRAL PARK WEST AT 79TH STREET, NEW YORK 24, N.Y. NUMBER 2005 JUNE 15, 1960 Lower Cretaceous Ammonites from Colombia, South America BY OTTO HAAS INTRODUCTION The present paper attempts to summarize the paleontological re- sults of an investigation carried out early in 1956, under the sponsor- ship of International Petroleum (Colombia), Ltd., in the Cordillera Oriental of Colombia for the purpose of clarifying and refining the lower Cretaceous stratigraphy of that region. I am indebted to the company for permission to publish this paper and to utilize photo- graphs made at the company's expense, and to Prof. Gerardo Botero Arango of the Facultad Nacional de Minas of Medellin, Colombia, for permission to describe specimens collected on a field trip of that institution and now deposited in its collections. For the repositories of illustrated specimens, reference is made to the legends of the figures accompanying the present report; there "I.P." indicates the collec- tions of International Petroleum (Colombia), Ltd., in Bogota and "F.N.M." those of the Facultad Nacional de Minas in Medellin. In addition to most of the forms recognized among the abundant ammonites collected in the course of the above investigation, some interesting specimens that had been in the company's collections earlier are also included in the present report. Unfortunately most of the ammonites here described, especially those preserved in shales, are crushed and flattened or otherwise dis- torted; venters can be examined only exceptionally and even more rarely can suture lines be observed.
