The bunker, entrance via the bungalow. Kelvedon Hatch Last week the Senior Able pupil group visited the government nuclear bunker at Kelvedon Hatch. The bunker was designed to accommodate up to 600 military and civilian personnel, including the Prime Minister, whose collective task it would have been to organise the survival of the population in the awful aftermath of a nuclear war. The bunker was in use until 1994. The boys entered the bunker via a simple bungalow, just inside there was a 120m long tunnel which led to the blast doors and main bunker. While in there the boys saw communications equipment, early warning detection systems, maps, the Which button do you want us to press Mr President? sewage and waste systems, living quarters and the hospital.

The boys ready for action!

Cricket Success The 1st XI produced another impressive performance to beat a Priory side that contained two county players. Having lost the toss KHS took to the field. After 10 overs Priory were 75 for 1 and looked set to score an impressive total. The KHS team didn’t give up at any stage; indeed they showed great resilience and determination to remove 5 batsmen for only 48 runs in the remaining 10 overs! Fraser Trimmings, Parth Gupta and Finlay Scott all bowled straight but it was Jack Fernandes with 3-11 who recorded the best figures.

For the second match running Matthew Garner and Finlay Scott set the foundation for the team’s successful run chase. They put on 49 for the first wicket, and then Finlay and Fraser put on another 41 for the second wicket. With 8 overs to go the team still needed 8 runs per over and even with 5 overs remaining 7 runs were required per over. Elliot Sinclair joined Fraser at the crease and the boys batted very sensibly to pass the Priory total of 124 to secure a win by 8 wickets. Man of the match was Finlay Scott for scoring a flawless 39 and bowling well.
