A passionate grape grower and liberal thinker, Philip Mazzei (1730-1816) best represents the innovative, visionary and entreprenuerial spirit that has characterized the Mazzei family throughout its history.

Citizen of the world, born and raised up in the Grand Dutchy of Tuscany, Philip moved to Virginia in 1773 where he strengthned his friendship with Thomas Jefferson, , and .

As a fine intellectual, he shared his modern and progressive ideas with them.

Philip was also, the first to introduce vines form Tuscany and other regions of Europe in USA. «All men are by nature equally free and independent. Such equality is necessary in order to create a free government.»

John Fitzgerald Kennedy in his book «A Nation of immigrants» endorsed Philip on how with this notion he inspired Thomas Jefferson’s introduction in The Declaration of Indipendence stating that «All men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.»

While the first bottle is dated 1992, Siepi’s myth goes back almost six centuries ago.
