Eiger North Face – ‘Stollenloch’ Challenge your limits - exclusive programme for groups! The long-standing fascination with the Eiger north face lies in its multifaceted history and perhaps more famously, in the dramas that have for decades unfolded within its vast rocky ampitheatre. Precipitous, disparaging and mighty, the north face itself towers at an altitude of 2000 metres and rewards successful summiteers with a breath-taking view of the Grindelwald valley below. Most who undertake this daring ascent have always been among the elite of the mountaineering world, until now... Get up close and personal with this most notorious of north faces and experience exclusively with us the train ride to the ‘Stollenloch’ - a railway tunnel-opening which exits directly onto the mountain face. Here, participants will be safely secured by the expert hands of our mountain guides, and experience the rush of adrenalin as the mountain air wafts right under your nose, 600 metres above the foot of the Eiger north face. Gathering at the meeting point (for example, Grindelwald Grund station) we take the train to Kleine Scheidegg where we can view the legendary Eiger north face from below. Your guide will be eager to point out the original first ascent route on the face and will also explain the location of the ‘Stollenloch’. Continuing by train, we reach the exclusive Stollenloch location and from here, once secured by our mountain guides and equipped with helmet and the necessary climbing gear, participants will be guided out onto the infamous Eiger north face. This tunnel exit was used during the construction of the railway for the disposal of excavation material from the tunnel and as early as 1936, attempts were made to rescue unfortunate, stranded mountaineers from here. The view from here is captivating, and if conditions allow, you can even attempt to climb a few meters - a very unique experience, we’re sure you’ll agree! After a warming drink (which can be fortified with whisky upon request!), we continue by train either to visit the Jungfraujoch or back down to the valley.
