Seine meiste Zeit verbringt er „on the road“ und gibt Konzerte und Gitarren- workshops auf der ganzen Welt. Musik für andere Menschen zu spielen ist meine größte Leidenschaft. Ich liebe es aber auch, engagierten Menschen Musik beizubringen und ihnen zu „Aha“ Erlebnissen zu verhelfen. Manchmal tragen diese musikalischen Einsichten sogar zur Entwicklung der Persönlichkeit bei. Musik zu unterrichten ist meine zweite große Leidenschaft. Du wirst eine bestimmte afrikanische Trommelsequenz lernen, die dein Rhythmusgefühl verändern und in alles, was du bereits auf der Gitarre spielen kannst, neues Leben hauchen wird. Du wirst mit zwei Solostücken von Adam beginnen und daran lernen, wie Fingerstyle- Arrangements mit Melodie, Bass und Begleitung aufgebaut werden. Kurzbiographie Mit 6 Jahren hat Adam Rafferty angefangen, Gitarre zu spielen. Sein erster Lehrer war Woody Mann, bei dem er kleine Fingerpicking Blues Tabs von Reverend Gary Davis, Blind Blake und anderen gelernt hat. Wie viele Gitarristen, ist auch er durch eine Phase mit Rock und Klassik gegangen, bevor er dann tief in den Jazz eintauchte. B.F. – Before fingerstyle… Adam spielte viele Jahre Jazzgitarre in NYC und ist mit einigen Jazz Größen aufgetreten wie Mike Longo (Pianist bei Dizzy Gillespie und sein Mentor), Alvin Queen (Schlagzeuger bei Oscar Peterson & Horace Silver), Dr. Lonnie Smith (B3 Organ mit George Benson), Buster Williams, Bob Cranshaw, Tal Farlow … und, und, und! A.F. – After fingerstyle… Im Jahr 2006, nachdem er den einzigartigen Tommy Emmanuel gehört hatte, hat er sich in das Fingerstyle Gitarre spielen vertieft. Seitdem hat sich sein Leben verändert. Er tourt überall auf der Welt (Bangkok, USA, Deutschland, Italien, Österreich, Schottland, Bermuda, Singapur, Malaysia, Tschechische Republik), hat diverse Fingerstyle Lehr-DVDs veröffentlicht (mit Stevie Wonder, Jackson Five und Jazz Gitarren Stücken) und insgesamt über 10 Millionen Views mit seinen Youtube Videos gesammelt. Playing cleanly, holding notes for their full value - and making it smooth are the goals. Particularly tricky is what you’ll encounter in measures 37, 38 39 - where the left hand pinky has to do a lot of sliding. If you have trouble with the LOW G in measure 38, just leave it out & use your open G string.

In the previous version, I realized that I had been "forcing" a boom-chick thumb picking idea on top of the tune, and it just never felt right. Just goes to show, let the music tell you how to play, not the ego! My ego wanted a boom chick tune, but the song said NO! The tune was originally conceived and heard in my ear the way you have it here. Harmony & melody are the same as before, but the rhythm is looser & more flowing.     ADAM RAFFERTY FUNKY FINGERSTYLE GUITAR FROM NEW YORK CITY “The first time I heard the guitar I was still in my mother’s womb.” says Adam Rafferty. Adam’s father bought a Martin D-28 guitar to serenade his expecting wife....and the sounds of the guitar surely found their way into Adam’s soul. Adam was born and raised just south of Harlem, started performing fingerstyle blues guitar at age 6, played in a hard rock band at 12, was ripped off by a club owner on his first gig at 15, studied classical guitar at 16, and by 18 he was a rapper on a gold record overseas. By age 20 he was playing as a jazz guitarist in Harlem with Hammond B3 organist Jimmy "Preacher" Robbins, who regularly threatened customers with a 10 inch kitchen knife. In his “Big Apple” jazz guitar period, Adam was a first call jazz guitar player in New York City for world class musicians like Dr. Lonnie Smith (Hammond B3 Organ Legend), the Dizzy Gillespie Big Band (led by Jimmy Owens), Bob Cranshaw (Bassist for Saturday Night Live and Sonny Rollins), Bennie Wallace, Alvin Queen (drummer for Oscar Peterson), and he's also played informally with George Benson, Gloria Lynn, Buster Williams, Lou Donaldson, Frank Wess and tap dancer Gregory Hines - to name a few. But...in 2006 his musical life changed when he fell in love again with solo fingerstyle acoustic guitar. The electric guitar has not seen daylight since then. In just a few years time, he become a YouTube guitar sensation, racking up over 15 million views and over 50,000 subscribers to his channel.

In this lesson I’ll show you some cool ideas for playing a funky bluesy groove pattern over a static E7 chord. It is simply a helper fi le - so that you can see tabs in black and white, in case the video is confusing and you want to see where the fi ngers should go! First - let’s take a look at the bassline. There are no wrong ways to fi nger it, but we have a few choic- es. All of these use the same notes, but different fi ngerings. For the application of “fi ngerstyle acoustic guitar“ I’d opt for the fi nal choice (Letter D ) using all differ- ent strings, with the pattern ending on a 12th fret harmonic on the low E. Why? This ringing note allows us to play something right afterwards (a chord, bend or another har- monic) and gives the illusion of several things happening at once. As the harmonic rings, we play another musical idea and this makes it sound smooth. Here are 4 ways to play the bassline, and we will use “D“ as I stated before.
