Bennett T hat solid Dutchman, Abraham Westervelt, knew a good piece of ground when he saw it, and in 1808 he and his brother, Wilhelmus, purchased 205 acres ofland adjoining the Vlaumanskill Creek from the old Patroon, Stephen Van Rensselaer. By 1840 he had prospered enough to build a majestic home on these same acres, a house that was made to stand for the ages - a solid brick rectangular house with an important Greek Revival door­ way, capped with a dated stone . . . -.- His great-granddaughter, Miss ."
