Jedním z nich je i bývalý pekař Saigo (Kazunari Ninomiya), který žije jen proto, aby mohl spatřit svou nedávno narozenou dceru; dále olympionik a šampión Baron Nishi (Tsuyoshi Ihara), který je znám pro své skvělé nadání pro jezdectví a je držitelem nejedné ceny; mladý armádní policista Shimizu (Ryo Kase), jehož idealizmus dosud nebyl zakalen peklem války; a přísný poručík Ito (Shidou Nakamura), který by raději spáchal sebevraždu, než by se vzdal.
