Sioux Falls Seminary. More importantly, welcome to the next step in your journey of discipleship and mission. People enroll in seminary for many different reasons, but one reason that seems to resonate with many Greg Henson students is that they were called by God. The call of God is powerful and President intimidating at the same time. The God of the Universe has placed a call upon your life. You may be unsure of the exact way in which that call will unfold or you might be confi dent in the next step on your journey. In each case, you are fi rst called to follow God. Each of us is invited to experience life in the Kingdom of God and to use our gifts to serve the Mission of God. We have the privilege of participating in the great work God is doing in this world. It is in that work that we truly experi- ence life. Your journey through Sioux Falls Seminary is fi rst and foremost a journey of discipleship. You will be challenged to engage in your walk with Christ in new and exciting ways. You will be asked to consider how God might be asking you to share the redemptive message of the Gospel. At times, you will question whether or not seminary is the best option for you. At other times, you will simply revel in the grace and power of God. Please know that Christ is with you at each of those moments. Sioux Falls Seminary is committed to developing kingdom-minded people for service in the Mission of God. Welcome to that journey! 1 general information dean’s greeting Welcome to SFS’ Community On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Sioux Falls Seminary, I am happy to welcome our current and prospective students to the challenges and rewards of theological education! Our seminary community is made up of a diverse Ronald D. Sisk group of men and women who come from a variety of places. Our faculty Academic Vice President and Dean is comprised of nationally recognized scholars with advanced degrees from leading universities and theological schools from around the world. All members of the faculty are also experienced ministry practitioners, and many are currently engaged in local church staff positions. Sioux Falls Seminary students come from many different states and foreign countries. The balance of male and female students is close to half and half. While SFS is a seminary historically rooted in the Baptist tradition, over half the student body identifi es with other Christian denominations including Methodist, Presbyterian, Reformed, Pentecostal, and independent non- denominational churches, to name a few. What unites this diverse community is our common commitment to the centrality of the Gospel, the Lordship of Jesus Christ, and the authority of Scripture. The faculty of Sioux Falls Seminary is committed to raising up highly dedicated, well educated individuals who stress the role of servant leadership and who can empower others to follow Christ into mission. Distinctives of our school include a Bible-focused curriculum, an emphasis on spiritual formation, and hands-on leadership development through practical ministry experiences. At Sioux Falls Seminary, students are not asked to choose between an academic education and a practical education or between intellectual rigor and spiritual growth. We integrate all of these elements into a holistic adventure of preparation for ministry and service. We welcome you gladly to join with us as together we press “toward the high calling” of God in Jesus Christ! 2 general information Sioux Falls Seminary is a learn- lation of 162,300 and growing, ing community whose purpose is provides a taste of urban life, it general information to serve the ministry preparation is the town and country sur- needs of the Church, the body of roundings that set the pace Accreditation for life in the area.
