Some of his works have been widely translated into other languages (German, English and Indonesian). His first book came out in 1982. - He was chosen Person of the Year 2014 in the Egyptian Embassy in the KSA. - Elkhosht has received 7 scientific prizes in human and social sciences and international publication, tens of certificates of appreciation and medals from international, regional and national universities and institutions and the Ideal Professor prize in 2010. - Some Arab and Egyptian university professors and foreign editors have written 4 books and tens of papers about his thought and scientific contributions in both Arabic and English. - Elkhosht was honored by Cairo University on Science Day in 2013 for his academic and administrative contributions in the university. - He is the Vice President for Students and Education Affairs in Cairo University. - He was Egypt’s Cultural Consultant and the head of the biggest educational mission abroad in the KSA (2013-2015). - Cairo University Cultural Consultant (2002-2013). - Director of Center for Foreign Languages and Professional Translation, Cairo University (2010-2013). - Elkhosht was in charge of the training and education activities at the Egyptian universities of the Ministry of Higher Education (2013). - He was a member of the Permanent Committee for choosing leadership jobs at Cairo University (2013). - He was Postgraduate Studies consultant at Cairo University and member of the Technical Office (2009-2013). - Elkhosht has founded and supervised the Cairo University Translation Project, created and chaired Hermes (a refereed scientific magazine dealing with humanities and social sciences). He has also co-founded Cairo University’s international magazine The International Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (IJHR). - Elkhosht has supervised more than 30 Master and PhD theses and refereed tens of Master and PhD theses, papers, and promotions of professors and assistant professors from Egypt and other parts of the Arab World. - He has participated in more than 40 scientific and international conferences and organized and co-organized 5 conferences. 2 First: Books & Research Papers on his works One whole chapter has been written about Mohamed Osman Elkhosht’s works and thought in Egyptian Philosophers, a book produced by Hephaestus Books.     Arab Media & Society (Issue 19, Fall 2014) Audiovisual Translation in the Arab World (v 0.4): Mapping the Field Muhammad Y Gamal Ph.D. Abstract Translation remains one of the most complex issues in modern Arab culture, thought and development. Despite the collective efforts of individuals, organisations and government policies the results continue to be modest and stop short of the desired target. In addition to the well- known issues that contribute to the translation crisis in the Arab world, digital technology has changed the rules of the game almost entirely. Translation, in the traditional sense is no longer accessed through paper and books but via screens and online. This is the world of audiovisual translation. This paper continues a study that began in 2007 that examines the status quo of audiovisual translation in the Arab world. Specifically, this work analyzes the challenges of localizing audiovisual translation, and unpacks some of the limitations in both policy and pedagogy that the field is currently facing. Introduction Digital technology has changed the way information is created and accessed. Traditional print translation is no longer viable in a world that is increasingly reliant upon smart technology. Today, translation is created and consumed via screen. Traditionally, the academic area of translation studies has been concerned with the social phenomenon of cross-cultural communication with its epistemological issues, contexts, process, product and pedagogy. Digital technology, which relies on screens as the interface point, has pushed audiovisual translation to the fore. Audiovisual translation (AVT) in the Arab world remains outside the scope of translation departments at a time when there is an obvious need to espouse the concept, localize the discipline and invest in the training of specialists in Arabic audiovisual translation studies.

This study will not be confined to the domain of academic philosophy or to those who are professionals in the field of philosophy. Design/methodology/approach – The paper adopted the critical rational approach in dealing with contemporary Islamic philosophy in the Arab world. The scope will include scholars from different fields of epistemology who tried to present a “vision” of the attitude that should be adopted in facing the challenges of the age and the problems of the nation on the epistemological level or the political, economic and social levels. Findings – There is a need for a philosophy of action and progress rather than a philosophy that is based on abstract ideas and theories and of words/rhetoric. The ethics required to accomplish this ought to identify the attributes of the citizen who can reach self-actualization through legitimate means based on a progress agenda with theoretical and philosophical foundations. Research limitations/implications – Because a critical rational approach can be dealt with from different perspectives, this paper will adopt the classification of the principal intellectual trends: the reformist, secular and liberal.

In the Greek-Classical Civilisations and Modern Euro-American Civilisation the attachment of Athens and Spartans with Paris and Berlin can be seen in the creation of art, literature and philosophy. This confirms that textual attachment is inevitable, which allows monitoring of these relationships. It is an important station of study for its most important schools in Western art, and the extent of the changes that face this art and its connection to the ideology of the Iraqi artist. Through textual attachment, no sect, movement, or school has settled, except that another contradiction and difference in its vision has emerged. Despite that, it remains connected to it and its predecessors from attachment, so that these movements carry within their folds aesthetic elements that correspond to what the Iraqi artist aspires to. The research topic included, according to the general context of its structure, two frameworks, the theoretical framework and the practical framework. The theoretical framework included the problem represented by the extent to which the ideology of textual relationships among the Iraqi artist in schools of photography is revealed in works of the Iraqi artist in Western art.

    ARRABAI, ALI M., Ph.D., December 2019 Modern and Classical Language Studies THE FRANKLIN BOOKS PROGRAM: TRANSLATION AND IMAGE-BUILDING IN THE COLD WAR (334 PP.) Dissertation Advisor: Brian James Baer Image construction in translation has recently attracted the interest of scholars in Translation Studies (Doorslaer, Flynn & Leerssen 2016). Much of the discussion, however, has been on the target culture’s construction of the image of the Other. Rarely discussed is the construction and projection of self-images (auto images) through translation. The Cold War was perhaps the single most important period in contemporary history in which this self-image construction manifested itself. Both the United States and the Soviet Union initiated massive translation programs in the developing world to boost their images and reputations, often referred to as “soft diplomacy.” The goal was to present themselves as the exemplary models for modernity and in the process “win the hearts and minds” of the newly independent nations of the developing world. The non- governmental Franklin Books Program (1952–1979) marks one important and highly visible attempt to increase the political and cultural cachet of the US in the Arab World during this period. The books chosen for translation appear to propagate and reinforce the self-proclaimed image of the US as a “shining city on a hill,” as well as, on a more profound level, a developmental model of history. The Franklin Books Program operated at a time when the US information and cultural agencies in the region were actively seeking to discredit and dismiss the USSR as the antithesis of modernity, liberty and progress.
