Simone Museu de Zoologia Universidade de São Paulo DOI: https://doi.org/10.11606/issn.2176-7793.v42i4p161-323 ABSTRACT The systematics, classification and phylogeny of the Caenogastropoda are revised based on an analysis of the morphology of representatives of all branches. The basis of this work is the detailed examination of the morphology of 305 species, most of which are reported on in detail elsewhere. Representatives of most caenogastropod families were included (comprising 270 species), and 35 outgroup taxa. A phylogenetic analysis based upon 676 morphological characters, with 2291 states (1915 of which are apomorphic states), is presented. The characters comprise every organ system and many are discussed in detail. The polarization is based on a pool of non-caenogastropods, comprising 27 representatives of Heterobranchia, Neritimorpha, Vetigastropoda, Cocculiniformia and Patellogastropoda. Additionally, eight representatives of other classes are also included. The root is based on the representative of Polyplacophora. A few characters were included in order to organize the outgroups, to find the position of Caenogastropoda among them, and to find the synapomorphies of Caenogastropoda. From the recently discovered mollusc fauna of Winterswijk-Miste (The Netherlands, province of Gelderland) nineteen species of Cancellariidae are described; one of these is supposed to be derived from Chattian sediments. The Miocene (Hemmoorian) age of this fauna is supported by the cancellariid species. Among the eighteen species collected in situ four species and a subspecies appeared to be new, viz. Trigonostoma mistense, T. barnardi, T. lindeni, T. pouwi, and T. geslini josephinae. Another new species, Sveltia gliberti, is described from the Edegem Sands in Belgium. (2015). Twenty-six species are recorded, of which three are new: Euthria palumbina nov. sp., Bartschia (Agassitula) harasewychi nov. sp., Brocchinia pigeonblancensis nov. sp. Aplus aequicostatus (Bellardi, 1877) is considered a junior subjective synonym of Aplus scaber (Millet, 1865). Fusus (Aptyxis) rostratus ligerianus Peyrot, 1938 is considered a junior subjective synonym of Aptyxis omphale (Millet, 1864). The data presented here concurs with that discussed in previous parts of this monograph, suggesting that average Sea Surface Temperatures off the NW French coast in the Zanclean lower Pliocene may have been warmer than they are at these latitudes today, possibly similar to those found today off the southern Portuguese coasts. -

Zoosystema 29 (2) : 281-364. ABSTRACT Th e Cancellariidae living off the western African coast, the mid-Atlantic Islands and in the Mediterranean Sea are reviewed. Twenty species are studied: 3 Admetula, 1 Axelella, 2 Bivetiella, 4 Brocchinia, 1 Cancellaria s.l., 1 Nothoadmete, 1 Loxotaphrus, 2 Solatia, 1 Sveltia, 2 Tribia, and 2 Trigonostoma. Trigonostoma gofasi n. sp. is distinguished from the western African T. scala (Gmelin, 1791) n. comb. by its multispiral protoconch, wider umbilicus, smooth columellar callus, axial ribs on the sutural ramp not reaching the suture, and the absence of a siphonal fasciole; and from the central western American T. goniostoma (Sowerby, 1832) in its wider umbilicus, more deviated columella and in being less elongate. A species of Solatia which has previously been recognised as new, is not named due to lack of adequate material. Th e species name in the combination Voluta cancellata Linnaeus, 1767 is declared nomen protectum, making the senior name Murex scabriculus Linnaeus, 1758 invalid as nomen oblitum. A neotype is designated for Murex scala Gmelin, 1791. A lectotype is designated for Cancellaria minima Reeve, 1856, Cancellaria similis Sowerby, 1833, Voluta lyrata Brocchi, 1814, Cancellaria angasi Crosse, 1863 and Cancellaria KEY WORDS rigida Sowerby, 1832; the latter name refers to a West African and not a West Mollusca, Neogastropoda, American species. -

Brocchinia verheckeni occurred from the states of Ceará to Sergipe, and B. harasewychi was collected from the states of Pernambuco to Alagoas. Both species are considered endemic to these regions. This is the second record of the genus Brocchinia Jousseaume, 1887 in deep waters off Brazil. Brocchinia harasewychi has a protoconch with 1 ¼ whorls, which is more inflated in comparison to B. verheckeni, the body whorl has 3 spiral cords, the uppermost bordering the suture and the other 2 near mid-whorl. The body whorl of Brocchinia ver- heckeni has 3 strongly nodulose spiral cords and an outer lip with 5 to 6 internal denticles, while that of B. harasewychi has a smooth outer lip. The genus Gergovia Cossmann, 1899 is recorded for the first time in the Atlantic Ocean with the description of Gergovia petiti n. sp., known only from the oceanic region from Northeast Brazil, occurring from the state of Ceará to the state of Bahia, as well as in the Fernando de Noronha archipelago, probably living in the muddy substrate at depths of between 206 and 720 meters. -
