  • The East Coast Tidal Surge of 5 December 2013 Lincolnshire
OFFICIAL Lincolnshire’s Tidal Surge Response & Recovery ‘After Action’ Report The East Coast Tidal Surge of 5th December 2013 Lincolnshire Resilience Forum’s Response & Recovery ‘After Action’ Report 20th March 2014 1 OFFICIAL Lincolnshire’s Tidal Surge Response & Recovery ‘After Action’ Report Foreword On Thursday 5th December 2013 a deepening pressure system combined with high astronomical tides and strong to gale force ‘north westerly’ winds to generate a coastal surge along the whole of the east coast of England, the largest surge since the ‘great storm’ of 1953. Due to advances in surge forecasting, flood prediction and contingency planning at national, sub-national and local levels we were able to ‘get ahead’ of the storm. From Tuesday 3rd December partners began deploying one of the largest multi-agency emergency response and recovery operations ever conducted in Lincolnshire. This included the most significant evacuation operation in recent memory, the rescue of a number of people who became isolated by floodwaters, and work to ensure critical services were maintained and damaged infrastructure quickly repaired. Thankfully there were only 3 (relatively minor) casualties as a result of the surge, but more than 720 residential and commercial properties were inundated from the resultant overtopping and breach of defences. I would like to pass on my sympathy and support to those whose households and businesses flooded. We continue to work to support a full community recovery, and I commend the work of colleagues at Boston Borough Council who have led this work. In the circumstances this was a very good, forecast-led response and recovery effort.

  • A Study of the Tales As Printed in Folk-Lore in 1891
2060302 INVESTIGATING THE LEGENDS OF THE CARRS: A STUDY OF THE TALES AS PRINTED IN FOLK-LORE IN 1891 Maureen James A submission presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements of the University of Glamorgan/Prifysgol Morgannwg For the award of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Volume 1 April 2013 Abstract This study investigates the content, collection and dissemination of the Legends of the Cars, a group of tales published in Folk-Lore in 1891, as having been collected in North Lincolnshire from local people. The stories, have been criticised for their relatively unique content and the collector, Marie Clothilde Balfour has been accused of creating the tales. The stories are today used by artists, writers and storytellers, wishing to evoke the flatland and beliefs of the past, yet despite the questions raised regarding authenticity, neither the collector, the context or the contents have been thoroughly investigated. The tales have also, due to their inclusion in diverse collections, moved geographically south in the popular perception. This thesis documents the research into the historical, geographical and social context of the Legends of the Cars, and also validates the folkloric content and the dialect as being from North Lincolnshire. The situation within the early Folklore Society prior to, and after the publication of the stories, has also been investigated, to reveal a widespread desire to collect stories from the rural populations, particularly if they demonstrated a latent survival of paganism. Balfour followed the advice of the folklorists and, as well as submitting the tales in dialect, also acknowledged their pagan content within her introductions.

  • Central Lincolnshire Five Year Land Supply Report 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2023
Central Lincolnshire Five Year Land Supply Report 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2023 (Published January 2018) Page 1 of 31 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1. The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF)1 requires local planning authorities to identify and update annually a supply of specific deliverable sites sufficient to provide five years’ worth of housing against their housing requirements. 1.2. This report sets out the five year land supply position for Central Lincolnshire for the period 2018 to 2023. The ‘current year’ (2017/18) is not used in the calculation of the five year supply. This is to ensure that at any point during the current year the Five Year Land Supply Report will include a full five year supply of land. 1.3. Appendix 1 provides a summary of all sites and the predicted delivery rates during the five year period. This is based on monitoring data as at 31 March 2017 and as provided by each district (North Kesteven, West Lindsey and City of Lincoln) which make up Central Lincolnshire. 2. FIVE YEAR REQUIREMENT 2.1. The Central Lincolnshire Local Plan, which was adopted on 28 April 2017, identifies a housing requirement for 36,960 dwellings between 2012 and 2036 (or 1,540 dwellings per year over the 24 year plan period). This is based on evidence in the Strategic Housing Market Assessment (SHMA) July 2015. 2.2. The basic five year land supply requirement between 2012 and 2036 is therefore 7,700 dwellings, as summarised in Table 1. Table 1: The Basic Five Year Land supply requirement 2018 to 2023 a Housing Requirement 1 April 2012 to 31 March 2036 36,960 (24 year period) b Average per year 1,540 a ÷ 24 c Basic five year requirement 7,700 b x 5 2.3.

  • PAT MEWIS the Only Local Choice for the Scotter Ward
WEST LINDSEY DISTRICT COUNCIL BY ELECTION 27 FEBRUARY 2014 PAT MEWIS The only local choice for the Scotter Ward ■ I will freeze the Council Tax for the next two years, helping residents with the cost of living. ■ I will fight to protect our communities from unsuitable developments. Dear Resident, I moved to Lincolnshire in 1968, living in Lincoln and the West Lindsey villages of Welton, Scothern and Saxilby before moving to Scotter twenty years ago. I worked in Lincoln for seventeen years at the Electronics company AEI, later known as Marconi. This is where I met my husband, Roy. I moved into Accountancy and later, Sales. In 1994 we purchased Ivy Lodge on Messingham Road, entering the hospitality industry. In 2008 I graduated with a Foundation Business Degree from Lincoln University, as a mature student, having studied at North Lindsey College. I thoroughly enjoy living in Scotter, having developed our business here providing Bed & Breakfast to some wonderful people, many of whom have since settled locally. My time within the hospitality industry led me to being made a Non-executive Director of Lincolnshire Tourism around 2010. Tourism is an important component of the local economy of West Lindsey. I am pleased that during my time in this post I helped secure a dedicated council employee with responsibility for promoting tourism. By listening, working hard and bringing a fresh approach to the role of District Councillor I know I can make a real difference. I have ambitions for our whole area that I am confident local people share. I am the only candidate who lives in the ward and as your District Councillor I will:- ■ Keep Council Tax Frozen this year & next and work hard to make sure that the council is lean and efficient, ensuring that services are provided in a business- like manner and represent value for money for local tax payers ■ Draw attention to the problem of fast traffic through the villages and the issues around parking ■ Find solutions to anti-social behaviour that brings unwarranted litter, broken glass and noise.

How to… submit a war memorial record to 'Lincs to the Past' Lincolnshire Remembrance A guide to filling in the 'submit a memorial' form on Lincs to the Past Submit a memorial Please note, a * next to a box denotes that it needs to be completed in order for the form to be submitted. If you have any difficulties with the form, or have any questions about what to include that aren't answered in this guide please do contact the Lincolnshire Remembrance team on 01522 554959 or [email protected] Add a memorial to the map You can add a memorial to the map by clicking on it. Firstly you need to find its location by using the grab tool to move around the map, and the zoom in and out buttons. If you find that you have added it to the wrong area of the map you can move it by clicking again in the correct location. Memorial name * This information is needed to help us identify the memorial which is being recorded. Including a few words identifying what the memorial is, what it commemorates and a placename would be helpful. For example, 'Roll of Honour for the Men of Grasby WWI, All Saints church, Grasby'. Address * If a full address, including post code, is available, please enter it here. It should have a minimum of a street name: it needs to be enough information to help us identify approximately where a memorial is located, but you don’t need to include the full address. For example, you don’t need to tell us the County (as we know it will be Lincolnshire, North Lincolnshire or North East Lincolnshire), and you don’t need to tell us the village, town or parish because they can be included in the boxes below.
