Resumen ejecutivo El mercado de carne halal de RU se valora actualmente en unos 4.500 millones de dólares y se espera que crezca un 5% cada año hasta 2020. El gasto musulmán en alimentos y bebidas está creciendo a un 6,1% y se estima que alcanzará los 1.900 millones de dólares para 2023, lo que supone una gran oportunidad para la inversión y la creación de marcas de alimentación halal. RU es el tercer país con mayor población musulmana de la UE. Acorde con los datos del Pew Research Center, en 2016 la población musulmana de RU era de 4,13 millones, representando un 6,3% de la población total. 1 Además, está creciendo al doble de velocidad que la población no musulmana, convirtiéndose en el segmento de consumidores de más rápido crecimiento y por lo tanto, en un nicho de mercado muy importante para la industria cárnica. Las perspectivas de crecimiento de la población musulmana, junto con el hecho de que el 60% no sobrepasa la edad de 30 años, hace previsible que la demanda de productos halal mantenga su curva ascendente de crecimiento y que el colectivo musulmán se convierta en un mercado cada vez más influyente en la próxima década. Además, las generaciones actuales de musulmanes británicos tienen mayor disponibilidad de renta que sus padres y abuelos; y mayores niveles de educación, que se traducen en mayor renta disponible futura y por consiguiente en un incremento de su tendencia a consumir carne. El certificado halal es un documento emitido por la autoridad musulmana del país exportador en el que se certifica que un determinado producto agroalimentario cumple los requisitos exigidos por la Ley Islámica para su consumo por la población musulmana. El desarrollo de un marco regulatorio para el mercado halal con una normativa armonizada, estándares de calidad globales y certificaciones reconocidas a nivel internacional es esencial para dar impulso al crecimiento del sector y ganar la confianza de los consumidores. Tan importante es la confianza en la autenticidad de la carne que, a pesar de que los supermercados disfrutan de la mayor cuota de distribución de carne en RU, cuando hablamos del segmento halal, esta tendencia se invierte, los consumidores musulmanes prefieren comprar carne a través de tiendas que exclusivamente venden este tipo de producto y que están a cargo de personal de religión islámica, ya sean carniceros independientes o pequeñas tiendas étnicas. Cabe destacar que el consumo anual de cordero per cápita entre la comunidad musulmana británica es de unos 32 Kg, Además, este colectivo consume alrededor del 20% del total de cordero 1 Europe´s Growing Muslim Population. Las principales cadenas de supermercados no son ajenas a la importancia de este segmento y llevan varios años comercializando carne y productos halal. En la gran mayoría de los casos, el formato que se distribuye en los supermercados es carne fresca envasada. Las tres principales marcas que se pueden encontrar en los supermercados son: Tariq Halal, Shazam´s y Haji Baba. Por su parte, cadenas como ASDA y Morrisons, tienen carnicerías halal en sus tiendas de las áreas metropolitanas donde hay mayor densidad de población musulmana, donde ofrecen un servicio de atención al cliente más personalizado. El precio es otro factor que influye en la toma de decisión del consumidor musulmán cuando se inclina por minoristas especializados. El precio de la carne fresca halal distribuida en los supermercados es significativamente más cara que la carne fresca no halal. Esta diferencia en el precio entre halal y no halal varía dependiendo del producto y el supermercado, llegando hasta alcanzar en algunos casos el 80%. En cambio, en las carnicerías independientes, los precios de la carne fresca se asemejan más al precio de la carne no halal vendida en los supermercados. Por su parte, España es el octavo exportador a nivel mundial de productos agroalimentarios, y el segmento halal no pasa desapercibido para la industria. Según el Instituto Halal, existen más de 300 empresas certificadas en nuestro país, de las cuales, el 95% pertenece al sector de la alimentación y bebidas, en su inmensa mayoría mataderos y empresas de elaboración y distribución de productos cárnicos y embutidos. 2 Las perspectivas de crecimientos junto con las nuevas tendencias de consumo en este mercado pueden suponer una importante oportunidad de negocio para las empresas españolas. Aunque en la actualidad RU sigue formando parte de la UE y por tanto no se aplican aranceles a los productos importados desde España, esta situación podría cambiar radicalmente en los próximos meses. Un Brexit sin acuerdo provocaría un cambio en la dinámica comercial entre España y RU. Los flujos de mercancías entre RU y la UE pasarían a estar sujetos a formalidades aduaneras, es decir, serán necesarias declaraciones de exportación/importación, realización de controles aduaneros e igualmente serán necesarias certificaciones sanitarias, fitosanitarias, de calidad o de otro tipo. Por otra parte, la importación de carne estaría sujeta a aranceles. Recientemente, el gobierno británico ha publicado una tarifa arancelaría transitoria que pudiera aplicarse en caso de Brexit sin acuerdo. Bajo este supuesto, la carne de cordero, por ejemplo, soportaría un arancel del 12,8% más 128,8 € por cada 100kgs. Definición del sector 2.1. Producto Halal Halal es un término árabe que significa “permitido” “lícito”, y en general, se usa para describir toda práctica permisible por la Sharia o ley islámica. Comprende todo lo que está permitido, y por tanto, es beneficioso y saludable para el ser humano, propiciando una mejora de la calidad de vida y la reducción de riesgos para la salud. Se podría traducir como lo autorizado, recomendable, saludable, ético o no abusivo.3 Los musulmanes entienden el término Halal como un estilo de vida, un concepto global e integral que influye y afecta a las cuestiones cotidianas, como la alimentación, la higiene, la sanidad, la economía, la moda, el comercio o el turismo. En contraposición, el término Haram hace referencia a todo aquello que está prohibido, no permitido, es dañino o abusivo. Se considera haram, según la normativa islámica: La carne del animal hallado muerto. La sangre. La carne de cerdo y jabalí, así como sus derivados. Los animales sacrificados sin la invocación del nombre de Dios. Los animales carnívoros y carroñeros, así como las aves con garras. El alcohol, las bebidas alcohólicas, las sustancias nocivas o venenosas y las plantas o bebidas tóxicas. Ingredientes procedentes de animales o productos haram, como la gelatina de cerdo.

    Aberdeen is in the North East of Scotland and is the country's third largest city. Around 220,000 people now inhabit Aberdeen and enjoy its dramatic granite architecture that glistens on sunny days. In mid to late June it never gets really dark, with the sun setting after ten pm and rising at around 4am. Golf is played until 11pm by many. The city is set between the Rivers Dee and Don, both of which provide for wonderful walks and scenery. The modern name Aberdeen literally means between the Dee and Don. Aberdeen has a long, spectacular beach between the two rivers which turns into high sand dunes north of the Don stretching as far as Fraserburgh and to the south of the Dee are steep rocky cliff faces and deep inlets making for spectacular scenery and great rock-climbing. The earliest charter for the city was granted by William the Lion in 1179. In 1319, the Great Charter of Robert the Bruce transformed Aberdeen into a property-owning and financially independent community and formed the basis for the city's Common Good Fund which still benefits Aberdonians. Traditionally, Aberdeen was home to fishing, textile mills, shipbuilding and paper making. These industries have been largely replaced but their impact on the city is still very evident. In modern times, Aberdeen has driven the north east to the very top of the UK’s economic growth tables with high technology developments in the electronics design and development industry, food, life sciences and, obviously, the oil industry, powering an economic boom.
