WITHIN SCHISTOCHILA DUMORT., SCHISTOCHILACEAE XIAOLAN HE & YU SUN Abstract. The monotypic Pleurocladopsis, endemic to Chile, was established by Schuster in 1964 based on an earlier poorly known species Cephalozia (?) simulans C. Massal. The phylogenetic position of Pleurocladopsis simulans had been consid- ered uncertain until it was placed in the family Schistochilaceae on account of the gynoecial and sporophytic characters. It has been assumed that Pleurocladopsis represents the starting point of evolution in Schistochilaceae. In the present study, the phylogenetic position and taxonomic status of Pleurocladopsis simulans are inferred from phylogenetic analysis of three chloroplast DNA sequence data. The result suggests that the genus was established solely based on the autapomorphic char- acters, thus obscuring its actual phylogenetic relationship with Schistochila and that these characters are later derived rather than ancestral. The result also confirms that the gynoecial and sporophytic characters are important in taxonomy, but they may be not sufficient at the infrafamilial level and at other lower taxonomic levels. In accordance with the results of the present study, Pleurocladopsis is synonymised with Schistochila, and the new combination Schistochila simulans (C. Massal.) Xiao L. He & Yu Sun is made. This research aims were to determine the types of bryophyte plants in Sawit Hiking Trails of Mount Andong, Magelang Regency. This diversity study resulted in 28 genera from 21 bryophyte plant families. The Pottiaceae and Brachytheciaceae families were the ones with the highest number of genera, namely 3 genera; Polytrichaceae, Dicranaceae, and Bryaceae consist of 2 genera; and other families only 1 genera. The most common bryophyte are Bryophyta were previously known as mosses. An index of published names of liverworts and hornworts between 2011 and 2012 is provided as part of a continued effort in working toward producing a world checklist of this group. The list includes 25 higher taxa, 154 species, 31 infraspecific taxa, and 17 autonyms for 2011 and 2012, 12 of them are fossils. A few taxa not covered by the earlier indices for 2000–2010 are also included. 75 species and 15 infraspecific taxa are new to science. Key words: Liverworts, hornworts, index, nomenclature Introduction Under the auspices of the Early Land Plants Today project, there has been a strong community-driven effort attempting to address the critical need to synthesize the vast nomenclatural, taxonomic and global distributional data for liverworts (Marchantiophyta) and hornworts (Anthocerotophyta) (von Konrat et al. 2010a). These endeavours are critical in providing the foundation to develop a working checklist of liverworts and hornworts worldwide; the first version is projected to be published in 2014. -

Bidartondo1,3 & Silvia Pressel2 Received: 15 November 2019 /Accepted: 5 February 2020 /Published online: 4 March 2020 # The Author(s) 2020 Abstract An accurate understanding of the diversity and distribution of fungal symbioses in land plants is essential for mycorrhizal research. Here we update the seminal work of Wang and Qiu (Mycorrhiza 16:299-363, 2006) with a long-overdue focus on early-diverging land plant lineages, which were considerably under-represented in their survey, by examining the published literature to compile data on the status of fungal symbioses in liverworts, hornworts and lycophytes. Our survey combines data from 84 publications, including recent, post-2006, reports of Mucoromycotina associations in these lineages, to produce a list of at least 591 species with known fungal symbiosis status, 180 of which were included in Wang and Qiu (Mycorrhiza 16:299-363, 2006). Using this up-to-date compilation, we estimate that fewer than 30% of liverwort species engage in symbiosis with fungi belonging to all three mycorrhizal phyla, Mucoromycota, Basidiomycota and Ascomycota, with the last being the most wide- spread (17%). Fungal symbioses in hornworts (78%) and lycophytes (up to 100%) appear to be more common but involve only members of the two Mucoromycota subphyla Mucoromycotina and Glomeromycotina, with Glomeromycotina prevailing in both plant groups. Our fungal symbiosis occurrence estimates are considerably more conservative than those published previ- ously, but they too may represent overestimates due to currently unavoidable assumptions. -
