The College at BROCKPORT ~ Recreational Services Intramural Arena Flag Football Rules

Field, Court, and Equipment:  will be played in the Tuttle North Front Gyms.

Players:  Teams will consist of 5 players on the floor at a time, (4 player minimum).  All players must present their College at BROCKPORT ID prior to the beginning of the event.

Playing Time:  Games will consist of two 15-minute halves. The clock will run continuously in the first half, and will only stop during the last two minutes of the .

Scoring:  If a team is winning by more than 17 points, the last two minutes will run constantly.  If a team is up by 40 points in the second half the game shall be called.

Game Rules:

 If a team is not present and ready to play by five minutes after the scheduled game time, it is a forfeit.

 Each team will have 4 downs to reach the first down marker located at the center of the field. Once a team crosses the marker, they will have an additional 4 downs to score a .

 There must be a legal forward pass each down. The passer has 7 seconds to release the ball. If not a loss of down will occur and the ball will be spotted at the previous location.

 Teams are allowed 1 time out per game.

 During the regular season games may end in a , however, during playoffs sudden death will occur.

 Substitutions may only be made during dead ball situations.

 The game (and overtime in the playoffs) will begin with a coin toss between captains. The winning team has the choice to select offense, defense, or to defer to their choice to the second half. Each half begins with the team on offense starting at their 10-yard line.

 Players are required to wear contrasting jerseys if not, pinnies will be available.

 Players must wear athletic shoes (sneakers).

 Once the ball hits the floor, wall, ceiling, or scoreboard it is dead, NO FUMBLES.

 The offensive player is considered down when any part of their body other than their hands or feet touch the ground, or they are de-flagged. If the player loses his/her flag, a single touch is required to stop the play.

 Only one player may be in motion at one time, in any given direction. They may run towards the line of scrimmage, but may not cross before the ball is snapped.

 The offense will have 25 seconds to snap the ball after the ready to play whistle.

 The offensive team must have at least one person set on the line of scrimmage at the snap. The defense must be behind their scrimmage line until the ball is snapped.

 After a touchdown is scored, the scoring team has 2 options for the try: o Score from the 5 yard line by a passing play; Score = 1 point o Score from the 10 yard line by a passing play; Score = 2 points

 Following a try, touchback, or safety, the offensive team will receive the ball at their 10-yard line.

 One blitz is allowed per 4 downs. Teams may NOT blitz on point after attempts. When blitzing, only 1 defensive player is allowed to cross the line of scrimmage.

 When the defensive team blitzes, the quarterback is NOT allowed to run past the line of scrimmage, and still only has 7 seconds to get rid of the ball.

SUMMARY OF PENALTIES

1. Un-sportsmanlike Conduct: • Offensive 8 yards and loss of down • Defensive 8 yards and repeat down • Includes inappropriate language

2. Pass Interference: • Offensive 8 yards and loss of down • Defensive 8 yards and repeat the down

3. False Start/ Offside/ Illegal Motion/ Encroachment • Offensive 5 yards and repeat the down • Defensive 5 yards and repeat the down • These penalties are automatic; teams do not have the option to accept or decline

4. Illegal Forward Pass • 5 yard penalty, and loss of down

5. Delay of Game • 5 yards and repeat the down

6. Flag Guarding • 8 yards from spot of the foul and loss of down

7. Illegal Contact • Defense 8 yards from the spot of the foul and repeat the down. • Offense 8 yards from spot of the foul and loss of down

8. Illegal Equipment- 8 yard penalty

• JEWELRY; earrings may NOT be taped • Arm or leg brace with exposed metal. • Shirts must remain tucked in. • No headwear containing any hard, unyielding, stiff material, including billed hats, or items containing exposed knots.

9. Knotting the flag belt – Automatic game ejection and 8-yard penalty for team.

10. Any offensive penalty occurring in the will result in a safety and a change of possession.
