    Bison Literature Review Ben Baldwin and Kody Menghini The purpose of this document is to compare the biology, ecology and basic behavior of cattle and bison for a management context. The literature related to bison is extensive and broad in scope covering the full continuum of domestication. The information incorporated in this review is focused on bison in more or less “wild” or free-ranging situations i.e.., not bison in close confinement or commercial production. While the scientific literature provides a solid basis for much of the basic biology and ecology, there is a wealth of information related to management implications and guidelines that is not captured. Much of the current information related to bison management, behavior (especially social organization) and practical knowledge is available through local experts, current research that has yet to be published, or popular literature. These sources, while harder to find and usually more localized in scope, provide crucial information pertaining to bison management. Biology Diet Composition Bison evolutional history provides the basis for many of the differences between bison and cattle. Bison due to their evolution in North America ecosystems are better adapted than introduced cattle, especially in grass dominated systems such as prairies. Many of these areas historically had relatively low quality forage. Bison are capable of more efficient digestion of low-quality forage then cattle (Peden et al. 1973; Plumb and Dodd 1993). Peden et al. (1973) also found that bison could consume greater quantities of low protein and poor quality forage then cattle. Bison and cattle have significant dietary overlap, but there are slight differences as well.

Pengukuran diameter folikel menggunakan ultrasonografi (USG) dan darah diambil dari vena jugularus dimulai hari pertama setiap hari dalam waktu yang bersamaan selama 3 siklus. Kadar estradiol 17-β dianalisis menggunakan metode Enzyme Immuno Assay (EIA) Hasil penelitian menunjukkan 4 ekor sapi Bali mempunyai siklus estrus pendek (n=7) diantara siklus estrus normal. Sapi Bali tersebut mempunyai 1 gelombang perkembangan folikel dengan panjang siklus 7-10 hari, diameter folikel ovulasi maksimal dan kadar estradiol 17-β menyerupai siklus normal. Kadar tertinggi estradiol 17-β pada siklus tersebut 107,77 ± 55.94 pg/ml pada hari ke 7-10 saat ukuran folikel ovulasi mencapai 10.5 ± 0,38 mm.

This listing emphasizes temperate families of the Northern Hemisphere and is meant as an overview with examples of Oregon native plants. Indigenous fermented foods are an intrinsic part of diet of the ethnic tribes in the Himalayan belt of India, being the oldest and most economic methods for development of a diversity of aroma, flavor, texture; food preservation and biological enrichment of food products by the manipulation of different microbial population. Human health- benefits include its antagonistic role against lactose-intolerance, high cholesterol level, cancer and diabetes. Vegetable based fermented foods like gundruk; sinki; anishi are prepared by tribes of Arunachal Pradesh; Sikkim and Nagaland respectively. Kinema; bhatootu, marchu and chilra; tungrymbai are cereal and pulse based fermented food indigenous to people in Darjeeling hills and Sikkim; Himachal Pradesh and Meghalaya respectively. Fermented bamboo shoot products like soibum and mesu form a major part of the diet among the tribes of Manipur; Darjeeling and Sikkim respectively. Fermented fish foods such as ngari and hentak are relished by the tribal population of Manipur. Fermented milk beverages such as kadi, churpa and nudu; and alcohol such as ghanti, jann and daru are consumed locally in Himachal Pradesh and Uttaranchal respectively.
