The year before I had listened with excitement to the launch of our local commercial station, Liverpool's Radio City, and wanted to find out what other stations I might be able to pick up. In those days the Guide covered TV as well as radio, which could only manage to fill two pages – but then there were only 19 “ILR” stations. -

BBC Executive priorities and summary workplan for 2011/12 Statement from the Senior Independent Director This workplan for the BBC is the first edition of a new annual publication. It summarises the BBC's strategy, objectives and outline budget for the year ahead together with noteworthy individual events. The publication of this workplan is part of the BBC's commitment to openness and transparency, both to the BBC Trust and to licence fee payers. The document is also an important part of the way that I, as the BBC's Senior Independent Director, acting together with my fellow non-executive directors on the BBC's Executive Board, will ensure that the BBC meets its strategy and fulfils its obligations to the satisfaction of the BBC Trust and licence fee payers. This document is not a blueprint for the year ahead. Plans must and no doubt will change in certain areas to accommodate events. The BBC has, however, a clear strategy in Putting Quality First and, with the licence fee settlement of October 2010, a clear budgetary framework to work within. Whenever our plans change they must, on balance, remain focussed on delivering against our strategy and within our budget. It is intended that the annual workplan will assist this reconciliation of our regular affairs with our long-term strategy and budget. The non-executive members of the BBC Executive Board look forward to working with the Director-General to deliver the contents of this workplan and I commend it to the BBC Trust. Radiodays Europe 2017 A Sound Future Amsterdam 19-21 March 2017 Conference Programme (More sessions and speakers will be added) V10 20170207 Radiodays Europe 2017 – Official Opening: A Sound Future In this opening session we’ll welcome everyone to Radiodays Europe 2017 in Amsterdam and set the agenda for the coming 2 days. What are the big themes for radio this year? How is our industry changing? And what great ideas and innovation can we celebrate and share? We’ll hear from some of the major organisations representing the radio industry in Europe and from our hosts in the Netherlands, plus we’ll get a perspective from both public service broadcasters and private radio companies alike. This provides an opportunity to consider the complementary roles of these services, as well as the combined impact of the entire BBC music radio portfolio and its offer to listeners 1.2 Our overall assessment is that the BBC makes a valuable contribution to music radio, but it needs to be held to account more firmly against its public service remit. Peak hours in particular are largely devoted to popular music programmes and are not providing sufficiently distinctive content for listeners.
