Since the use of the certified seed potatoes is beyond the control of the Federal State Inspection Service and the Idaho Crop Improvement Association, Inc., no warranty of any kind, express or implied, is made concerning the performance of the seed potatoes. Page 2 IDAHO CROP IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION’S SOUTH EAST DISTRICT OFFICE, IDAHO FALLS The Idaho Legislature, at its 35th session, enacted Senate Bill No. 107, the “Seed and Plant Certification Act of 1959”. This Act designated the Regents of the University of Idaho, through the College of Agriculture of the University of Idaho, as the seed certifying agency for Idaho. The Act further gave the Regents the authority to designate an agent to administer and conduct the certification program. In 1959, the Regents of the University of Idaho appointed the Idaho Crop Improvement Association, Inc. as their duly authorized agent to administer and conduct seed certification in Idaho. The Idaho Crop Improvement Association was incorporated in 1941. I.C.I.A. is a non-profit grower association whose membership includes all growers, companies or individuals producing and/or handling Idaho certified seed crops. The Association is governed by a board of nine directors. Seven directors are elected by the membership and represent the seven seed production districts of the state. The eighth director is a member of the Plant, Soil and Entomological Sciences or his/her designee, from the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, University of Idaho. The ninth director is an individual appointed by the board of directors as an advisor to the board. In addition to seed potatoes, I.C.I.A. certifies grass, alfalfa, clover, grain, canola, beans and other true-seed crops through its four district offices located in Meridian, Idaho Falls, Dalton Gardens and Twin Falls. For specific criteria relating to disease tolerances and other requirements, the reader is referred to the certification regulations of the agency in question. 2The first field planting utilizes laboratory-tested stocks which may be tissue-cultured plantlets, greenhouse-produced minitubers, stem cuttings, or line selections. Contact agencies for details as to types of stocks planted in their programs. 3Term used by agency for seed potatoes for a particular year in the field: C=certified, E=elite, F=foundation, G=generation, N=nuclear, PE=pre-elite. 4If lots originate at Cornell-Uihlein Farm, the first three generations (G1-G3) are also designated by a (U) to denote source. 5,6FY = Foundation Year (Wisconsin), FY = Field Year (Michigan; Maine) Page 4 HOW TO USE THIS DIRECTORY This directory lists those seed potato lots that have been planted with approved planting stocks and have met field inspection requirements. The data shown are for second field inspections only. Additional requirements must be met before these seed lots may be represented as or sold as certified seed. Grower’s name and address are listed alphabetically by county and variety. Detailed contact information for each seed grower is available in the back of this directory. Certification Number. A unique seed lot identification number assigned by Idaho Crop Improvement Association that follows the seed lot throughout the entire certification process. Seed buyers should refer to this number when making inquiries about a seed lot. Mosaic and Leafroll columns indicate the frequency (percentage) at which these diseases were identified in each seed lot during the second summer field inspection, based on a standard plant count of 200 plants per acre. Please note the following explanation of readings: • 0.0% - indicates that no Mosaic or Leafroll plants were observed during the second field inspection. • “Trace” - a frequency greater than zero, but less than 0.01% of plants counted. Acres. This figure indicates the number of acres in the seed lot. Data are rounded to the nearest 0.01 acres. Class. Idaho uses a limited generation system. Seed class is based on both field generation and disease tolerances. Seed lots not meeting disease tolerances for a particular class during field inspection are downgraded to a lower class. Please refer to the “Limited Generation Certified Seed Potatoes” chart on the opposite page. Tolerances for seed classes are detailed in ICIA rules for seed potato certification. PVX Testing. PVX testing of Nuclear, G1, and G2 seed classes is mandatory. This designation indicates that a lot was laboratory tested for Potato Virus X by ELISA and passed the PVX requirement. Absence of the PVX designation in these classes means that a lot exceeded PVX tolerances. PVX tolerances in these seed classes are detailed in ICIA rules for seed potato certification. Other Abbreviations/Notations: “See Field Report” – PVX Nuclear and PVX G1 seed classes receive observational inspections. The buyer must check field inspection reports for full information concerning inspection results for these classes. “EXP” – Experimental Class. Please refer to ICIA Rules of Certification for details. Disease tolerances for specific seed classes are listed in the current year Idaho Rules of Certification published in May by the Idaho Crop Improvement Association, Inc. Copies are available by contacting the Idaho Falls office at (208) 522-9198 or on line at www.idahocrop.com. Page 5 NOTICE TO ALL BUYERS All seed buyers should be aware of the following: 1. This directory lists the results of the second field inspection for those seed potato lots that have been planted with approved planting stocks and have met field inspection requirements. Only seed lots that have successfully met all of the requirements described in the ICIA Rules of Certification and bear official ICIA tags may be represented as or sold as certified seed. Idaho seed potato certification is a process that includes the following requirements: a) Use of approved planting stocks. b) A minimum of two field inspections. c) Storage inspections before and after harvest. d) Post-harvest testing. Post-harvest testing requirements consist of: i. An off-season grow-out of tuber samples in Waialua, Hawaii. These samples are laboratory tested for PVY and assessed visually for other factors such as PLRV. In certain cases, a laboratory test of tuber sprouts may be conducted in place of the winter grow- out. ii. A laboratory test for bacterial ring rot. e) A Federal-State shipping point inspection to ensure conformity with Idaho Blue, Green or Yellow seed tag grades. 2. Any seed potatoes listed in this directory that do not meet all of the requirements described in the ICIA Rules of Certification will be rejected from certification. They are not certified seed potatoes. 3. Buyers are encouraged to: a) Refer to the ICIA Rules of Certification for information on specific requirements, tolerances, and grade standards. A copy of the ICIA Rules of Certification is available on the ICIA website, www.idahocrop.com, or from the Idaho Falls ICIA office. b) Refer to the official “Certification Number” listed in this directory in all transactions. This is a unique number assigned to each seed lot and it will appear on any documentation that accompanies the seed potatoes purchased.

1 Master thesis: Identification of alleles involved in Solanum tuberosum plant maturity and quantification of allele effects in phenotypic traits values Identification of alleles involved in Solanum tuberosum plant maturity and quantification of alleles effects on phenotypic trait values PBR-80436 Master Thesis Plant Breeding Year 2013-2014 Supervisor: Dr. Herman van Eck May 2014 María del Mar Pérez Nicolás María del Mar Pérez Nicolás May 2014 2 Master thesis: Identification of alleles involved in Solanum tuberosum plant maturity and quantification of allele effects in phenotypic traits values Abstract In potato (Solanum tuberosum) it is known that the main factor controlling plant maturity is the StCDF1 gene, a member of the DOF (DNA-binding with one finger) family. Two truncated alleles of this gene, StCDF1.2 and StCDF1.3, which contain a 7bp footprint insertion and a 865bp transposon insertion respectively, have been recognized as responsible for early phenotypes regarding plant maturity. A set of 470 potato cultivars, most of them with known phenotype, was screened for the presence or absence of these two alleles, and subsequently, a correlation between our results and phenotype was made. Although our approach was not able to detect StCDF1.2 allele, a significant difference on phenotype was found between cultivars containing the StCDF1.3 allele and the cultivars without it. Moreover, in order to know if plant maturity is a trait determined by the combination of different haplotypes and not only by the presence of the previously mentioned truncated alleles, a subset of 190 cultivars was selected and their PCR products from the first half on the intron were sequenced.
