This spring, Lowell D. Oberly Post 667 American Legion spearheaded an effort to raise funds for a fl agpole for the Osnaburg Local Schools Foltz Stadium. The new fl agpole was dedicated on August 30, 2019, at the fi rst home football game. American Legion Post 336 Painesville held our annual Veterans Appreciation Day on Sept 13, 2019. This was our tenth year for this event and it was a major success. We had 500+ attendees and numerous vendors and support organizations at the event. Our local Community Based Out Patient Clinic was on site to give fl u vaccinations and answer questions about health services. Tara Wallace, Facility Director for the CBOC spoke to the gathering about changes and options for receiving care outside the VA and how to insure it works well for the Veteran. The featured speaker of the day was Congressman David P. Joyce. He spoke to Veterans issues and spent time speaking with the members and sharing stories and experiences. Post 336 looks forward to next year and we hope it will be even bigger.

FLAG FOR WAYNEDALE GYM 75-YEAR OLD VETERAN RECEIVES DIPLOMA On Tuesday, September 24, 2019, Albert Buxton received his high school diploma from Northwest Local School District – Cincinnati, Ohio. The board granted his wish – to fi nally receive his diploma. “I fi nally got my diploma, fi nally graduated after 57 years. Mr. Buxton left high school in December of 1961 to enlist in the Navy during the Cuban crisis and Viet Nam Confl ict. Took his training at GLNTC in Chicago, IL in January 1962 for 8 weeks. After basic training he was sent to the USS Intrepid (CVS-11) in Norfolk as a Seaman on Admirals Staff as a Boatswain Mate on high GIG. Mr. Buxton was helping his grandson on the district progress book and noticed that there was a section foe Veterans to receive their diplomas. The State of Ohio allows school districts to recognize the efforts of those who left high school during WWII, Korean Confl ict or the Viet Nam Confl ict (Ohio revised code), prior to graduation, in order to join the war effort. Mr. Buxton has four children, 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. “My family had no idea that I never received my diploma and they were happy to see me get it”, he said. I’m proud of my diploma that I received from Colerain High School, proud to be an American Citizen and proud to have served my country. Mr. Buxton has been an American Legion member for 55 years and a proud member of Yeager-Benson Memorial Post 199 in Harrison Ohio.

POST 336 HOST VETERAN APPRECIATION DAY American Legion Riders from Post 336 were honored to provided escort for the remains of Sgt. Vernon Judd. Sgt Judd was listed missing in action on Nov. 28, 1950 and later it was reported that he died in the Hofong Prisoner of War Camp. Sgt. Judd was a member of Company D, 89th Medium Tank Battalion, 25th Infantry Division. Judd is survived by his brother Kenny and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The escort was made up on American Legion, Rolling Thunder and other concerned Veterans Groups. Sgt Judd was escorted from Cleveland Hopkins airport to the Spidell Funeral Home in Brewster, OH. Sgt Judd was one the 50+ sets of remains returned to the United States as a result of negotiations by President Trump. He was interred at Western American Legions from Apple Creak, Homesville and Reserve National Cemetery on Sept 24, 2019 with full Military Honors including a fl y over be two vintage Fredericksburg and the Apple Creek Sons of the American Legion WWII fi ghter planes. The Auxiliary purchased a special banner to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Legion. It received honorable mention. The banner was also used in a display at the Aurora Library.
