A Comparison of Patients Relapsing to Addictive Drug Use with Non-relapsing Patients Following Residential Addiction Treatment in Antigua TC Martin1,2, JA Josiah-Martin1, J Kosakoski1, K Norton1, T Sinnott1 ABSTRACT The outcome of a 29-day residential addiction treatment programme for persons from Antigua and Barbuda with addiction to drugs or alcohol was assessed. All 100 patients entering the drug and alco- hol treatment programme at Crossroads Centre Antigua between November 1998 and October 2002 were included. All patients were assessed with regards to drug or alcohol use or abstinence in November 2002 using telephone and mail follow-up as well as informal follow-up with families and other community contacts. Crossroads Centre Antigua is a 35 bed, 29-day residential treatment centre for drug and alcohol addiction serving patients from developed countries (85%) and from the Caribbean region (15%). Patients records were also reviewed to obtain age, gender, ethnicity, drug of choice, years of problematic use, completion of the 29 day programme, family member participation at Crossroads Centre Antigua (a four-day programme) and acceptance of halfway house placement. Of the 100 Antiguan patients admitted, 46 (46%) were abstinent (non-relapsers) at average 20.7 ± 14.7 months after treatment. Abstinence did not have to be continuous. Forty-nine were known to be using drug or alcohol (49%) and five (5%) were lost to follow-up and considered to be using drugs (relapsers). Age (37.5 vs 41.1 years), gender (28% vs 22% female), ethnicity (87% vs 87% Afro- Caribbean), years of harmful use (12.7 vs 12.5 years) did not differ significantly between relapsers and non-relapsers. -

Hec Rivera Hec Rivera is a Houston, Texas-based country, rock and jazz guitarist. Raised in Rio Grande City, Texas, he has performed professionally since high school, and has since made a successful career performing, recording, and teaching. "It's a tremendous privilege to be able to tell people that this is what you do for a living," he says. "To be able to do it every day alongside people who have become family makes the experience all the better." In addition to music, Hec is an avid history buff, and enjoys fishing, aviation, the Boston Red Sox, billiards, writing, concerts, and documentaries. He cites Don Felder, Neal Schon, Richie Sambora, Eric Johnson, Steve Lukather, and his close friend and mentor, John Calderon, as his primary influences. He currently plays lead guitar and sings backing vocals for Justin van Sant, and resides in Houston, Texas. He uses MusicMan, Paul Reed Smith, Gibson, and ESP guitars, Ernie Ball strings, and Peavey, Top Hat, Mesa, and Jet City / Soldano amplification. PRESS RELEASE PLACE: Jakarta DATE: 17 September 2016 Voice of Refugees Fundraising Concert– Joining Hands to Benefit Refugees Worldwide Jakarta, 17 September 2016 – Concerned business leaders and celebrities are joining hands with humanitarians and the general public tonight to help provide a better future for refugees everywhere through the Voices of Refugees concert. The event is being taped live at the Ciputra Artpreneur this evening and will be aired by Metro TV on 24 September, thanks to the charitable efforts of the Media Group. Ms. Noor Sabah, wife of the Norwegian Ambassador in Indonesia is involved as an organizer and patron of the concert. This marks the third year she has been helping to put together similar benefit concerts for humanitarian causes in Indonesia. In addition, this year’s Voice of Refugees concert has received the generous support of prominent Indonesian corporations such as Tahir Foundation, and the Media Group. Funds that are mobilized in connection with the concert will help UNHCR meet the urgent humanitarian and other needs of refugees, including shelter, health care, education and social services. Everyone who wants to help is encouraged to donate through UNHCR’s Indonesia Website at donate.unhcr.org. Donations can also be made at www.nobodyleftoutside.org, which would contribute towards UNHCR’s campaign to provide shelter for at least 2 million refugees by 2018. Donations are needed now more than ever as the world is witnessing a record number of people being forced from their homes due to war and persecution. By the end of 2015, over 65 million people were forcibly displaced around the world. -

BIO DOYLE BRAMHALL It’s apropos that DOYLE BRAMHALL’s new Yep Roc CD is titled Is It News because, although they’re absolutely true to his deep roots in the blues, its dozen original tunes mark a turning point that is both ambitious and the logical summation of his artistic evolution. The answer to the forward- thinking, envelope-pushing CD’s title is a resounding yes—and the news is all good! “I wanted to make an all-original record that was big, energetic, intimate, and unpredictable,” Doyle states. “We got a lot of the sounds by pushing everything to the limit and then pulling it back from there.” Fans already accustomed to Doyle’s high standards and willingness to chart new territory will nonetheless be pleased and surprised at just how high he raises the bar. This instant classic is the benchmark of Bramhall’s storied career—which is saying a lot! Continuing the tradition he started with the songs he co-wrote with Stevie Ray Vaughan, which struck a chord with the biggest audience the blues has ever enjoyed, he deftly expands the idiom’s vocabulary and texture. Any discussion of Texas blues, be it T-Bone Walker or Stevie Ray, is incomplete without mention of Doyle Bramhall. The Fender Custom Shop and “Blackie” Your questions answered… A few days before the launch of the Fender Eric Clapton “Blackie” Reissue, Mike Eldred – Director of Sales and Marketing for the Fender Custom Shop, was interviewed by Guitar Center for his personal account of the “Blackie” Reissue project. GC: So Mike, what’s your role at Fender, and in the Custom Shop specifically? Mike: I’m Director of Sales and Marketing for the FMIC Custom Division, and that encompasses all brands: Tacoma, Guild, Gretsch, Fender, Charvel, Jackson, and the amplifiers. GC: What is it about “Blackie” that makes it so special, even within that special world? Mike: It’s an iconic Stratocaster. The story about the guitar is really such a great story about how Eric bought the guitar--bought several guitars--and then pieced together basically just one guitar from a bunch of different parts. So he actually built the guitar, which is very unique when it comes to iconic guitars like this. A lot of times they’re just bought at a store or something like that. But here, an artist actually built the guitar, and then used it on so many different recordings, and it was so identified with Eric Clapton and his musical legacy. GC: Then, after 35 years of ownership, he offered it up for sale. What did Fender think when they heard that Guitar Center had bought Blackie at auction for almost a million dollars? Mike: Just that we were glad that it was sold to someone we have a relationship with. The concern that we had was that somebody was going to buy it and then just lock it away and that would be that, or some private collector would buy it or something like that.
