BAD COMPANY BIOGRAPHY One of the most acclaimed bands of the classic rock era, England's Bad Company has put its indelible stamp on rock 'n' roll with a straight- ahead, no-frills musical approach that has resulted in the creation of some of the most timeless rock anthems ever. Led by the incomparable singer and songwriter Paul Rodgers, arguably the finest singer in rock 'n ' roll and a huge songwriting talent. Formed in 1973, Bad Company came to life when Rodgers was looking to start anew after the disintegration of his legendary band Free. His powerhouse vocals and songwriting were a main ingredient during Free's impressive five-year run; a period of time that saw the release of seven extremely influential albums that featured Free's minimalist blues-rock approach. Included among Free's dynamic body of work is the 1970 smash, "All Right Now," one of the most recognizable rock anthems ever recorded. Lyrics and melody by Rodgers. He was Free’s main songwriter. Rodgers had met Mott The Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs and after jamming together and listening to new songs that Ralphs had penned and songs that Rodgers had penned, Ralphs made the decision to leave Mott and form a new band with Rodgers. The duo recruited former King Crimson bassist/vocalist Boz Burrell, added drummer Simon Kirke and Rodgers Christened the band Bad Company. Rodgers’ brought in Led Zeppelin manager Peter Grant and Bad Company became the first band signed to Zeppelin's Swan Song label. "I had to fight to get the management and the record company to accept the name Bad Company," explains Rodgers. -

Billboard Top 10 Blues Artist, 2020 IBC Winner, and JUNO Nominee, Canadian singer/guitarist JW-Jones is known for his high-energy shows! * * * * * Fresh off the heels of winning "Best Guitarist" at the 2020 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, popular Canadian blues artist JW-Jones was looking forward to a huge year before COVID-19 hit and halted his tour schedule. “I knew I had to do something productive to stay positive. I turned isolation into inspiration!” said the JUNO-nominated Jones, whose searing axemanship has been praised in recent years by legendary blues artists Buddy Guy and Chuck Leavell (The Rolling Stones). From original music to previously unreleased songs, "this album sounds bigger and wider-than-ever” says Jones, "thanks to Eric Eggleston of Johnny Hall Productions, who has wicked ears and a fresh approach to production”. It features a 17-piece band with a 13-piece horn section, plus additional tracking of vocals, guitars, and studio effects that led to a most appropriate album title, Sonic Departures. High production values didn't take priority over keeping it real for this Ottawa- born artist. "Every single guitar solo on this record, with the exception of one, was recorded in one take, and it was the first-and-only take, with the band and horn section performing together in the same room” reveals Jones. In addition to his touring band consisting of Will Laurin (drums/vocals) and Jacob Clarke (upright and electric bass/vocals), Jones brought long-time band-mate Jesse Whiteley back into the fray on keys and to write some of the horn charts. -

Following is the text of a letter that was sent by Amy Sky, Marc Jordan and Marie Denise Pelletier to all Members of Parliament and the Senate on March 18, 2009. Support for Canada’s artists became a front-burner issue in 2008. Unfortunately, we’re still waiting for fair compensation for our work. We are hopeful that 2009 is the year that this happens. Despite the political heat that was generated around arts-related issues in last fall’s federal election campaign - fanned in large part by the elimination of federal grants and programs to promote Canadian culture - we’re still waiting for real reforms to the copyright legislation which impacts tremendously on our livelihood. While grants and support programs are extremely important to artists, especially in the early stages of building a career, they are only one part of the bigger picture when it comes to living – and, more to the point, making a living – as an artist in this country. We are singers, songwriters and recording artists. Like so many other Canadians who make and market something, we make our living from the sale and use of what we create. Some people make furniture, or footwear, or even wireless hand-held communication devices. We make music. Just like the clever folks who created Birkenstocks or the Blackberry, Canada’s songwriters and recording artists are proud of the music they create. It has value, in both the artistic and monetary senses of the word. But unlike the creators of other things, artists don’t enjoy the same kind of safeguards to ensure they are fairly compensated when their work is copied and used. -

BOBBY CHARLES LYRICS Compiled by Robin Dunn & Chrissie van Varik. Bobby Charles was born Robert Charles Guidry on 21st February 1938 in Abbeville, Louisiana. A native Cajun himself, he recalled that his life “changed for ever” when he re-tuned his parents’ radio set from a local Cajun station to one playing records by Fats Domino. Most successful as a songwriter, he is regarded as one of the founding fathers of swamp pop. His own vocal style was laidback and drawling. His biggest successes were songs other artists covered, such as ‘See You Later Alligator’ by Bill Haley & His Comets; ‘Walking To New Orleans’ by Fats Domino - with whom he recorded a duet of the same song in the 1990s - and ‘(I Don’t Know Why) But I Do’ by Clarence “Frogman” Henry. It allowed him to live off the song-writing royalties for the rest of his life! No albums were by him released in this period. Two other well-known compositions are ‘The Jealous Kind’, recorded by Joe Cocker, and ‘Tennessee Blues’ by Kris. Disenchanted with the music business, Bobby disappeared from the music scene in the mid-1960s but returned in 1972 with a self-titled album on the Bearsville label on which he was accompanied by Rick Danko and several other members of the Band and Dr John. Bobby later made a rare live appearance as a guest singer on stage at The Last Waltz, the 1976 farewell concert of the Band, although his contribution was cut from Martin Scorsese’s film of the event. Bobby Charles returned to the studio in later years, recording a European-only album called Clean Water in 1987.
