Geology of the Semenyih Granite
132 Geology of the Semenyih Granite MUHAMMAD BARZANI GASIM\ WAN NORAzMIN SULAIMAN2, MOHD. ISMAIL YAZIZ2, ABD. RAHIM SAMSUDIN1 AND WAN ZUHAIRI WANYAACOB1 1School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences Faculty Science and Technology, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia 43600 Bangi, Selangor 2Department of Environmental Science Faculty Science and Environmental Study Univerisiti Putra Malaysia The Semenyih Granite is located in Mukim Semenyih, Hulu Langat. It was tectonically emplaced during the Late Mesozoic period. This granite intrudes Jelebu Schist in the northeast and Kajang Formation in the southwest. The mineral composition of the Semenyih Granite consists of 60-70% potash feldspar; 15-20% quartz; 5-15% plagioclase (oligoclase); 5-10% mica and 5% accessory minerals. The Semenyih Granite is divided into the Semenyih and Beroga Granites. Beroga Granite has medium to coarse grain texture and dark grey in color while Semenyih Granite has fme to medium grain texture and pale grey to light brown in color. The second texture formation due to tectonic events such as rotation of the crystal lattice, slip and rearrangement at grain boundaries, micro fractures and faults and fluid-filled micro fracture was observed under microstructure study. The microscopic evidence of deformation is compared with the macroscopic phenomenon of the Semenyih Granite. The northeastern area rock is characterized by cataclasites, strike -slip faults and highly fracture zones. It may be due to deformation after cooling or due to latest emplacement of this granite body, but the impact was lesser in the southwestern area. Field observations that the Semenyih Granite is highly weathered and severely eroded with landslides and rock falls occurrence locally, especially from Semenyih town to Sg. -

During that time, it was noted for its air force surveillance centre which protected the area from Port Swettenham or previously known as Port Klang to Port Dickson. It also acted as a military logistics that planned and carried out the movement, supply, and maintenance of military forces to sustenance Morib area. Currently, this historical structure and its remains have no longer exist. The area has now been transformed to a palm oil plantation. As time goes by, this airfield has been forgotten and invisible to our young generation. In addition to that, there are lack of literature and studies about the history and its roles during and after World War II. -
MEMORY of the WORLD REGISTER Selangor State
MEMORY OF THE WORLD REGISTER Selangor State Secretariat Archives (1875 – 1953) (Malaysia) Ref N° 2010-51 PART A – ESSENTIAL INFORMATION 1. SUMMARY The documentary heritage proposed is a series of public records in the form of files dating as far back as 1875 to 1953. They constitute an organic whole highlighting local administration during the British colonial era. These records are unique to the Archives as they constitute the oldest organically related group of records that are extant in their original form. The records are important for the understanding of the history of the state of Selangor, as they began at the crucial time when the British Resident to Selangor was first appointed by the Colonial Office in London. It was also the time when Jugra used to be the royal town with Klang as the administrative centre of Selangor. The records cover the early beginning of local history in Selangor at a time of civil war and also a time when Kuala Lumpur was just founded. It took more than 10 years before Kuala Lumpur became the state capital in 1886 and subsequently the capital of the Federation of Malaya. Today, Kuala Lumpur is the most important city in Malaysia, and due importance must be given to the records commensurate with its status as the capital city. Although the records are created at the State level, they fulfill historical gaps at the Federal level. The most important records were those of the Federal Secretariat whose records were burnt during the Japanese occupation. As a result, information on a number of key historical issues can only be gleaned from the Selangor State Secretariat records. -
Construction Aggregate Resources in the Federal Territory and Central Selangor

The average consumption per capita in 1998 was 3.74 tonnes of aggregates. It is estimated that the current rock reserve in this area can only cope with the demands of this region for the next 30 years. Thus, the exploitation of aggregate resources must be planned carefully and integrated with other types of landuse. Urban Land Use Change and the Langat Basin Ecosystem Health
PLANNING MALAYSIA Journal of the Malaysian Institute of Planners (2004) II, 51-68 URBAN LAND USE CHANGE AND THE LANGAT BASIN ECOSYSTEM HEALTH Shaharudin ldrus Abdul Samad Hadi Institute for Environment and Development (LESTARJ) UNIVERSITJ KEBANGSAAN MALAYSIA (UKM) Abstract The paper discusses over four decades of urban land use changes in the Langat River Basin in response to rapid development impulses that flowed from the more developed Klang Valley where Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian capital city is situated. It proceeds to look into the impact of those changes on the ecosystem health of the basin. Federal development policies, strategies, programs and activities have transformed the basin from an industrial agricultural basin into an urbanized area. Being contiguous to the Klang Valley, the basin rose over the decades to be a choice location for not only foreign direct investment to produce manufactured products for export but also services and educational. The paper also discusses the status of the Langat Basin ecosystem health. The change to the land use has indeed impacted on the basin ecosystem health. Using ors, land use changes in the basin over the decades were analysed to reveal the persistent direction of change. It is clear that the trend of land use change in the Langat Basin is the conversion from one type of land use to developing urbanised and full urban areas. What is implied by the changes are indicators that can be derived to show the sustainability of the ecosystem in the Langat Basin such as river flood, mud flood, land slide, etc. Key words: Langat River Basin, Ecosystem Health, Land Use, ors, INTRODUCTION This paper perceives that economic, social and administrative driving forces have impacted on the Langat Basin land use.
