The ABC Auction will feature some terrific items this Tyear, including a 1986 Ford Mustang (red); children's nursery furniture, hand painted by Laurie Kaihlanen; a 12-foot SunFish sailboat and a vacation get-away to Steamboat Springs Grand Resort Hotel. The ABC Auction fish chairs and several of the larger items will be on display February 25 through 27 at the CCA gallery. Th? ABC Auction pre-event dinner will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m., with the auction starting at 7 p.m. Captiva. island restaurants are providing this year's dinner, and the cost is $15 per person. For more information/please call the CCA at 472-2111. • The monies raised by the ABC Auction for the Sanibel School Fund will be used as seed money for the Captiva Art Room at The Sanibel School. One exciting addition to the C4ptiva Art Room is the kiln room, where students will be able to have their ceram- ic artwiork fired. • The 2004 ABC Auction is a Captiva tradition dating back over 38 years. Ten per- cent of the auction's gross sales will benefit the Sanibe] School Fund. Last year, the continued on page 40 Lauri Kaihlanen, Butterflies Are Free Vanessa Lombardo, Serenity Symphony Society's Verandah Home Evokes Old Florida Charm by Camille Kucaba his year's Symphony House Designer Showcase and Art Exhibit is drawing lots of "oohs" and "ahhs" from those visiting the spectacular home in the THammock Creek neighborhood at the Verandah development in Fort Myers. Open to the public since February 14, "The Symphony House" is the Symphony Society's 2004 fundraiser to benefit the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. Tours continue daily through February 29 - Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday noon to 5. For the first time in the Showcase's 14-year history, a home was built especially for the event - a partnership between the Symphony Society and the Bonita Bay Group, along with Dan Dodrill, president of Daniel Wayne Homes, and the home's owners, Sarah Ashton and Jim Metzler. As always, area design firms donated their time and tal- ent to transform the home's interior into a showplace of beauty and tranquility. World Day of Prayer is an international evet)t that unites Protestant, Roman Catholic, Orthodox and ofher Christian women and men in 179 countries in prayer the first Friday of March every year. Thfoughout the day, from the first sunrise to the last sunset, prayers, spoken in hundreds of lan- guages and dialects, follow the sun's path around the globe. Each year the women of a different country write the service. The women of Panama have written the ser- vice this year. At the Sanibel service, a dialogue by the former Sanibel School's Spanish teacher and Episcopalian, Nisla Tolp and Susan Stuart of Captiva Chapel- by-the-Sea will be part of the service. Men, women and children are welcome to attend the service. A fellowship hour will follow the service where Panamanian food and items will be featured.
