Welcome to FXU Freshers! Over the next couple of weeks we plan to showcase what we, and the campus, have to offer during your time studying in Cornwall. We’re starting this year with over 100 different sports clubs and societies! Take a look at their pages on our website to see what takes your fancy and get stuck in with the various taster sessions – they’re FREE during the Freshers period! That’s right, there are no membership fees until AFTER Freshers. We’ve also got volunteering activities, environmental projects and, of course, the big Stannary nights. So whether you want to try a new sport, pop along to a society get-together or get stuck into a volunteering project, we’ve got you covered. The Stannary (Penryn Campus) How to Settle In Come along to The Stannary to meet and greet your fellow Camborne School of Mines (CSM) students! CSM is formed of both mining and geology courses. This is 10am – 3pm a great chance for you to meet people from different years. The Compass (Penryn Campus) How to Settle In is all about the support, advice and help available at University, from assistance with adjusting to living in halls, registering with the local surgery, opening a bank account, as well as wellbeing advice and support for International students settling into Cornwall. 6 | Sunday 11th September Monday 12th September | 7 GeogSoc: Ice-breaker: Map Your Campus! Welcome English for International and EU students 11am – 1.30pm 4.30pm – 6.30pm DDM Seminar Room N & M (Penryn Campus) ASK (Penryn Campus) Get a chance to meet your GeogSoc committee, and fellow Geographers in The English Language team offer a range of free English language courses on a fun environment! Test your mapping skills, and find your way around campus both campuses for students with English as a second language. whilst getting to know other people on your course, and win a prize! ‘Welcome English’ is a Social English course for any students whose first language is not English. The course runs from 4.30pm to 6.30pm, Monday-Friday during the Tea & Toast first two weeks of the academic year. This will provide an opportunity for all commuting students to DDM Seminar L (Penryn Campus) meet other commuters and see if lifts can be shared. There will be food and drinks! Join the Debating Society (DebSoc) for an informal session of games and debating. Gain an insight into the society’s activities, get involved in their plans and meet Christian Union: Cream Teas the committee and regular attendees. Novices and experts alike are welcome. Midday – 3pm Tremough House Lawn (Penryn Campus) Netball: Taster Session Join us for a free civilised cream tea. Whether you prefer it the Cornish or 7pm – 9pm Devonshire way, we’d love to see you there. Penryn College TISA Come along to try a training session for CSM Netball Club. Keep fit, have fun and International Students British Culture and Tips Session meet new people! All abilities welcome. 4pm – 6pm Peter Lanyon Lecture 5 (Penryn Campus) Pizza Night The University of Exeter and Falmouth University invite International students to join 7pm – 10pm them for a formal Welcome Reception. This will be followed by a British Culture Chaplaincy (Penryn Campus) and Tips session delivered by the FXU Presidents.
