Players: The game will take place with five players on each team Each team is required to have a minimum of four players to start and continue a game. 5 on 5 Basketball Game Rules: The game will start with a jump ball at center circle. Thereafter, any jump ball situation will result in an alternating possession at the nearest spot. The second half will begin with a throw-in at mid-court by the team with the alternating possession. Once a team commits its seventh foul (per half), the opposing team will shoot a one and one. Upon committing its tenth foul (per half), the opposing team will shoot two free throws. Any flagrant or technical foul called by an official, supervisor, or other intramural staff member will result in two free throw attempts by the offended team and the ball out of bounds at mid court. If any player receives two technical fouls in one game he/she is automatically ejected. If a team accumulates three technical fouls for any reason, the game will end immediately and a forfeit declared. Any flagrant foul will result in immediate ejection. Any player ejected will be suspended a minimum of one game pending a meeting with the Intramural Sports Coordinator. 5 personal fouls = fouling out. This is not the same as being ejected from the game and does not require a meeting with the Intramural Sports Coordinator unless it is recommended by the officials, manager or supervisor. Dunking is allowed during the game. Players dunking before or after the game will be assessed a technical foul. Any player hanging on the rim at anytime will be assessed a technical foul (unless there is a player below them during the game). Excessive swinging of the elbows will result in a technical foul; it does not matter if contact was made or not made with an opponent. During a free throw attempt, a player occupying a marked lane space shall not break the plane of the free throw line until the ball touches the rim or backboard. Any ball striking the top portion of the backboard will be a dead ball, and the defensive team will receive possession of the ball. The five-second-violation rule will be enforced. The five-second-violation rule is when a defensive player is within six-feet of an offensive player, and in the proper defensive position, in the frontcourt. The offensive player will have a five-second count in order to make an offensive move toward the basket, or to pass the ball. An offensive player may not use the sideline to keep the defensive player from reaching the ball. If this occurs, a five-second count will begin. If a five-second violation is given then the ball will be turned over to the defense During the regular season, games may end in a tie. Playoff games may not end in a tie. The will be a five minute overtime. 5 on 5 Basketball All players must report to the scorekeeper to check in as a sub. All players must wait for the official to signal them in.
