American Airlines is the largest carrier in the Caribbean, operating more than 170 daily flights to 37 destinations in the region.

Overview • American Airlines has served the Caribbean for more than four decades. Over the , American and its regional partner, American Eagle, have worked closely with government officials, hoteliers and authorities to promote travel and tourism to the Caribbean, the Bahamas and Bermuda. • American inaugurated service to the Caribbean in March 1971, flying between New York’s JFK and six Caribbean destinations: San Juan, ; ; Curaçao; St. Thomas and St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin ; and -au-Prince, .

Important milestones • In 1971, American began flying to six Caribbean destinations from New York’s JFK after acquiring Trans Caribbean Airways. • American developed (MIA) as a hub in 1989 when it purchased Eastern Airlines’ route system to the Caribbean. • From MIA, American and American Eagle serve 38 cities in the Caribbean, the Bahamas and Bermuda. • In addition to its extensive Caribbean route system from Charlotte (CLT), JFK, MIA and Philadelphia (PHL), American and American Eagle fly to the region from Boston (BOS), Chicago (ORD), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Washington, D.C. Reagan (DCA) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). • American began service between MIA and and between MIA and in April 2013. • American began new service from MIA to Cap-Haïtien on Oct. 2, 2014. • In 2015, American continued its expansion into the region with new service from DFW to , and Punta Cana, ; from CLT to Curaçao and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; from LAX to Montego Bay, ; from ORD to Punta Cana. • In 2016, American launched service from MIA to , Bahamas, and also from JFK to Providenciales, Turks & Caicos. • In Sept. 2016, American launched service from MIA to five destinations in : Cienfuegos (CFG), Holguin (HOG), Camagüey (CMW), Santa Clara (SNU) and Varadero (VRA). In Nov. 2016, American launched service to from its MIA and CLT hubs. • In 2017 American launched new service from CLT to George Town (GGT), Bahamas.
