Licenciatura corresponds to a bachelor degree; the Bacharelato which is part of the cycle is awarded after 3 years. Under the European harmonised system, introduced as from 2006-07, the first cycle (Licenciatura) will last 3 years, the Master degree (Mestrado) an additionnal 1 or 2 years, followed by a third cycle for Doctorate. 2.
