2011 auction of jazz LP records by Jim’s Jazz, P.O. Box 80663, Minneapolis, MN 55408, USA Phone/FAX: 612 823-6366 e-mail [email protected] The minimum bid on this auction is $15 and rarer items have higher minimum bids, all indicated at right of page by “mb”. GRADING: The LPs are carefully graded. If any marks are visible I usually listen to them. The grading is based on a combination of visual and aural evidence. In 13 years of doing business I have only had one record returned because of condition. I guarantee the records to conform to the grade(s) assigned. Satisfaction is offered in the form of replacement, or credit, or refund. There are records from the 70s and 80s on the list because many can be considered rare despite the date of issue. There seems to be a current revival of interest in vinyl as well. And 1980 is 31 years ago! LP GRADING SYMBOLS: MM- = virtually new; played only a few times. M- = a few minor blemishes which do not sound or are not likely to sound. VG+ = surface scuffs and/or scratches which will produce slight audible noise in small proportion to most of the LP. VG = noticeable visible and audible wear. Probably areas of recurring noise. VG- = numerous defects, poor. Usually not on this list unless the cover, rarity, or other quality is very desirable. Sometimes lower case versions of these symbols are used, which denotes there is a very small amount of this grade. For example: MM-vg- would mean that approximately 90% of the LP is clean with a small amount of noise. Noise will be described as loud, medium, or small (loud, med, sm). If the percentage of noise goes beyond 5% I will indicate. A double + or - sign will indicate slightly better or worse than the assigned letter grade. COVER GRADING SYMBOLS: A, A-, B+, B, B-, etc. I will describe significant and noticeable defects. BNote 1591 DByrd, CFuller,Sonny Clark, Art Taylor, GJoyner MM-/AA- mb 30 The next three items are by Pierre Dorge & New Jungle Orchestra. This is a contemporary Danish group. For those of you to whom this is an unfamiliar group/music a brief description: The New Jungle Orchestra is called that in reference to an early Duke Ellington band. However they are not imitating nor re-creating the Ellington music; rather they are inspired by the spirit of the Ellington group and re-imagining their use of unusual textures, etc. in a contemporary way. Further, they often reference world musics--Balinese gamelan music for example. The music is well-organized with a mix of written and improvisational material. It is not freaky avant-garde music. I encourage my customers to take a chance if not familiar already with this wonderful music. Dorge is a guitarist, and most of the tunes are originals by the members of the group, although there is one 11 minute version of Ellington’s The Mooche on the Live in Chicago LP. While these LPs are from the late 80s and early 90s, I think they are sufficiently rare, excellent, and little known in the USA, and as such include them here. All are MM- and AA- covers. The minimum bids on all three are $20 each. 23.* “Live in Chicago” Olufsen DOCD 5122 1991 John Tchicai ts, ss; Hamid Drake drms 24.* “Differen Places-Different Bananas” Olufsen DOC 5079 ca. 1991; Tchicai; Harry Beckett tpt 25.* “Peer Gynt” Olufsen DOC 5094 ca. 1990; Tchicai 26.
